5.1 surround sound doesn't work?

Recommended Posts

hey there!

i have problems getting true surround sound to work in dayz sa. i can only hear the front left/right speakers. the center, subwoofer, and rear left/right speakers don't seem to be playing any audio ingame, even at max volume. this is unfortunate because in a survival game like dayz i NEED to have proper positional audio in oder to hear zombies/people sneak up on me

i have an x-fi xtreme audio pci soundcard and a 5.1 surround sound system. surround sound works fine in games like battlefield4 and planetside2 so i don't know what to do here. can anyone help me? maybe it's some ingame/config sound settings that i wasn't aware of

thanks!

Same problem here. Running Logitech 5.1 and it all works fine with the brand name games but in DayZ it's useless. I hear a shot and have no clue where it's coming from.. How the hell does JamJar know "instantly" where the shots come from?

Great, a quest lol. Now we embark on the journey to find andrej the "sound guy".... If he exists. I mean REALLY, I would be happy if we had functional left and right stereo but we don't even have that. Want proof? Next time you hear zombie sounds you'll notice they come from all around you when in fact there is just one and he's not where you think he is.

Yep same problem here : got an XFI Titanium and a Z906 5.1 surround system and the game is running ilike a 2.1... What a shame...

This is the same problem as in ARMA 2 long time ago where it took them many years to fix this and some months to fix it in ARMA 3. So the question is : "how long it will take them to fix it for DAYZ ?" Many years I guess if they do like the optimization of the game...

I will triple-check tonight when I log in...but I am certain I am getting the full surround experience with my setup.

X-Fi Titanium (The sealed black unit without 5 1/4" panel) and my Creative 7.1 speakers.

I originally did a LOT of experimenting with positional audio when I started and found it to be pretty decent (but not as precise or defined as it will be in the finished audio module I hope).

If you are running Windows 10 there is an updated X-Fi driver that resolves many weird losses of functionality.

As a matter of fact there is something else it might be....

When I was messing around with the Audio settings I changed the number of sounds slightly and lost surround. Maxed it out and all is well again.

Did you originally HAVE surround, and now you do not?

If so, what changed?

And...quick response to Waldemard....the Audio module is not a priority right now, "Understand"ably. It is kind of early to start using the cliche' about the Dev timeline.
