Duenan 226 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) Well....I have to say....very interesting. I've been soloing on the experimental and these zombies feel like the old DayZ mod zombies, By that I mean back when the zombies ran at you at super speed and you couldnt hit them. Well I should say these zombies are those upgraded to have decent run animations and jumping animations. And yes. You can hit these guys but MAN they're fast. You can still out run them by sprinting and lose them easily around the city (provided they don't glitch thru walls) or in the forest. However they do not yet have the same alert ai as those old zombies meaning as of yet there is no stealth possible (unless you catch one with its back turned). That said I witnessed in Svetlojarsk the "Dinner Bell" phenomena of old and it made me smile. The current zombies on the normal servers don't exhibit this. But it seems if you fire a weapon around a city or zombie spawning point more will spawn around you. I witnessed this first hand circling around a farm house with 2 zombies chasing me. I shot one, circled around and 3 more appeared. I continued this several times and everytime I got down to one or 2 zombies, Atleast 2 more spawned out of my sight of vision. They seem much faster and more aggressive than the normal server but they're so much fun that they actually are a threat now. Other interesting features in the experimental are Legpainhurt and Armhurt. I got an armhurt status and it says fractured but there is no animation for it yet and my character appears to function still as normal. But this is really interesting that the devs are creating localized wounding. Does anybody know whether i need to make a splint to fix my arm or just get some morphine and pain pills? Daemonkid 493 Posted March 4, 2014 You can still sneak past them, provided you're prone or crouched and the grass is of decent height. I've walked within 10 meters with a zombie looking at my direction, hit prone and crawled and it didn't even go into the alert animation. So, indeed the AI is being improved but it's a long road ahead.

Hethwill_Khan 233 Posted March 4, 2014 Arm fractures and pain will mess up your aim and very noticeable when you move and aim. Also you can use splints for arms.

I experienced the zombies spawning on/near me as well after I shot one, they just kept coming, I'm not sure why but it ended when I got one hit from a Z although I don't recall how many time's I'd been hit before that or my status (it was a rough day) The arm hurt and leg hurt afaik don't do anything they are posted in the bug tracker, I was unable to try any medical solutions but I've heard that morphine will remove them. LaughingJack (DayZ) 767 Posted March 4, 2014 Well I experienced the same...and I also was happy about it (And I died. To Zombies! In DayZ SA! Because I ran out of ammo and was cornered...that was...well...exciting like the mod was. But now, I can't wait for the AI improvements of the Zs... ;) And l think, when the ragdoll system comes in, broken arms and legs will be...well a lot of fun to watch. And maybe even witness for the first time on yourself ;) And since a limping animation is fully intended....well let's see :)
nuggit 246 Posted March 4, 2014 I am liking what I have played of the experimental so far, it brings out the panic when put in a corner. I came across a fresh spawn earlier, who seemed friendly enough so I gave him the last of my beans and a pipsi as I was energized. There were a few zombies around so I offered my axe to defend himself. As he picked up my axe from the ground he got swarmed by 2 zombies and by the looks he did not know he couldn't swing if it were not raised. I yelled out to him to raise the axe before he got swiped. I immediately see blood pouring from his body, he proceeded to crouch and then bandage. "shit" "shit" "shit" I need to help. I shot off 2 rounds and dispatched the zeds, when another 4 come out of nowhere. I let another round off when I get hit and my legs break, more zombies come. I panic as I watch the freshspawn get pummelled. I try and make a crawl for it but only got 3 meters before my screen went black. I felt really bad for the freshie and for my bad decisions, but loving the update and the excitement and panic it brings. I think you will find that campers are going to have a tougher time :D

-MadTommy 367 Posted March 4, 2014 Zombies are so much better in experimental right now.I just just got seriously beaten twice. Blood everywhere, broken arm, ruined leather jacker & gear.. followed me up 3 flights of stairs in a police station...mean mofos! Going into a town solo and shooting is a real danger now... :)

They can hit you from 5 or more meters, even when you sprint away from them. I adition to that, you cant kill them them with axe when in building, you just hit the wall all the time. I you dont have enough ammo get the fu*k out of town.

deebz1234 243 Posted March 4, 2014 Agreed the new zombies are far better. HOWEVER was in the new town last night up north and a zombie spotted me and chased from 200m. he was a fucking spec in my perif...come on...not realistic. has happened a fair bit, seems 1 zombie in a given area is on eye steroids... -MadTommy 367 Posted March 4, 2014 he was a fucking spec in my perif...come on...not realistic. LOL as we all know what is realistic when it come to fictional zombies in a fictional scenario. I think you need to use a different argument.. as I hope you know zombies are not actually real. :)
fitzee 248 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) Hi.I'm away from my PC for a few weeks so I unfortunatly can't test this, but it sounds great. Hopefully the DM noobs won't cry too much and stop the zeds from being the threat that they need to be.he was a fucking spec in my perif...come on...not realistic.Don't forget the AI doesn't suffer from the artificially zoomed-out view us players have.Regards. deebz1234 243 Posted March 4, 2014 all i know is next morning after drinking a bottle, i feel like a zombie and cant see 15 feet...so there is no way a real (or fictional) zombie could see 200m LOL Zombies are essentially living dead right? so if thats the case then there is tissue damage and degradation? So therefore the eye sight wouldnt be better than living... that argument ok?
JFord 4 Posted March 4, 2014 I dont know, more zombies is good, but spawning out of no where is a bit shit.,. I liked the idea of them sort of spawing out of town. So there is no unlimited spawn of zombies in town.
Crooked Hauser 258 Posted March 4, 2014 Sounds good to meI'm sure we are going to see some threads "OMG zombies are overpowered fix now!" The moment the update is realeased thoughHa! Totally. I logged in last night to Experimental for the first time in a week or so and the zombies gave me what for. Luckily I had plenty of bandages. Wasn't expecting that level of aggro. Didn't help that I forgot there was a new melee setup for two handed axe swings. It was fun!
deebz1234 243 Posted March 4, 2014 havent had any zombies surprise me in the forest yet, im not sure if that is implemented fully on EXP or? or the reports are way over exaggerated

He smelled you. :PThat's what you get for sprinting from balota to NWAF and from there to Svetlo. Zombies smell you from 500m away ;)And the Zs in DayZ are not living dead. I dont know, more zombies is good, but spawning out of no where is a bit shit.,. I liked the idea of them sort of spawing out of town. So there is no unlimited spawn of zombies in town. The spawning/respwaning of Zs is subject to change as mentioned by the Devs to a "reasonable manner"...whatever that will be ;) havent had any zombies surprise me in the forest yet, im not sure if that is implemented fully on EXP or? or the reports are way over exaggerated I have met some in stable 2 or 3 patches ago and I really don't know where they came from, why they were there or what they were doing there. I was jogging with a buddy from Pusta to Staroye, when 3 Zs jump us from the woods. Was pretty scary....because I really did not expect sth like that...
River Lizard 47 Posted March 4, 2014 I got attacked last night by them...I was alone in a city and figured I try out my 357 on one because I hadn't fired the damn gun the whole time I've had it. What a mistake!!! Next thing I know is I have 5 zombies on me.....run Forest run!!! Put my gun away and ran to a street light (what the F___K why are they working?) far enough away to pull my axe out and then I did a tap dance around the zombie herd until I killed the last one. Freaked me out....semi dark street...fire...poof a group of zombies come out of nowhere...OH krap!! But I love it...now if they can get them to actually climb three stories and ladders it will be perfect. For some reason they stop on the second floor of buildings. Now on a side note......why are street lights working? What...........are they running on batteries?
