Thoughts on a small change to logout timer

Recommended Posts

My only complaint with the timer is this.  When you log out, you go to the server screen but your character remains in game sitting there for about 30 seconds.  I like this, but I think it should be changed so that when you are logging out and you're sitting there, you remain in game and in control of your character.  As it is now, you're vulnerable and can be killed without even being on the server.  I'd like to see them make it so that you character sits down and you get a prompt on the screen letting you know that you are logging out.  Any movement you make will cancel the logout.  So you have ot remain still.  What it does is make it so that in the random chance someone happens upon you in that 30 seconds you can defend yourself.

Get yourself safe before logging out? That's all it wants to do and it's doing its job with that, is it not? It currently forces you to think about your position before logging out, so you don't log out in the middle of a building where a Zombie or a player could by any time and kill you.

If you would log out in a safe place you can easily overwatch the area around you before logging out. 30 seconds is not that much to approach. You can easily overwatch that area.

I was thinking of suggesting this as well.

The only thing I would add is have two buttons. Log out and exit. Log out does what you described, exit does the current functionality.

I've never run into an issue with logging out, but I could see the potential of issues arising as the game adds more and more content.  Sure making sure the area is secure and safe before you leave is prudant, but there's is always that chance that something could happen.  Anyway, it was just a suggestion.  Thanks for your feedback.

Discussed at length and discarded by the Devs due to blatant exploits using it.

Anyway, your post IS the whole point of the timer. Logout should be something you have to actively think about, not just something you do! It is working as for the conditions it was implemented for, and yes there are some annoying side issues around disconections, but overall it is much better to be playing now than it was.

I never had any problem with logging out as I always go in the woods, in a pine tree, far from anything.

Now if they add respawn / agressive animals, etc maybe this should be changed, but right now it's fine for me.

But that's the point. You have to log out in a safe place.

The only part I don't like about the current timer is if you are in a situation where someone in a house is shooting you. Its like saying you have 30 seconds to rush the house instead of playing strategically everytime he stops shooting incase hes still trying to combat log.

I think if you fired your weapon it should be a immediate 5 minute timer added to whats currently in place. Maybe have a timer in your character window that shows how much time is left before its just the normal 30 seconds to log out.

Something like this maybe..

I like that there is a timer for logging out for the combat loggers, but 30 sec is to long. I think 10 sec would be better. If your in a fire fight and you try to log out 10 sec is plenty of time for the person shooting you to kill you. Just my opinion...

That's because the logout timer is way too short as it is.

Have yet to be killed during those 30 secs, from players or zombies.

From my experiences in game I see no need to change it.
