Yes, but I have the mental strenght to be the first one to do it :D. I'll be having his gear while he gets pissed and re-thinks if being good and trusting is really worth it.

Lol just because someone didn't KOS doesn't mean they have no 'mental strength'

Being good and being trusting are two different things, he's getting you to lose the weapon because he doesn't trust you

I'm good, but I'll not trust you....ever

Maybe when zombies become more of a threat and your all alone, maybe then you'll realise that you might need some help from time to time

I was going to say, just say hi to someone rather than sticking a gun in their face and acting friendly. But then I remember what The Governor did in The Walking Dead. For those that don't know, he approached a medium sized group of military soldiers that were pretty heavily armed, and when they lowered their guard when he said he was friendly, he popped one guy in the shoulder before the rest of his group opened fire and completely annihilated the soldiers.

So yeah, don't approach me for ANYTHING, or you will die. Trust no one unless you have the upper hand.

Unless they have an m4 and loads of ammo your chances of running and surviving are quite high. Hitting someone that is running "full retard" is not the easiest thing to do.

That's why you stalk them, wait till they stand still and take them down 600 m away with a Mosin.

It requires mental strengh to shoot first then KoS is the best form of mental strengh.

Or maybe they were trying to have a player interaction with you, where they may have given  you food/water/guns/ammo/medical supplies..

..Or maybe they would have tested your blood for you, and if you weren't O-, sent you on your way with a bag of rice for your troubles..

....Or maybe they just wanted to be sure you were unarmed before they lowered their weapons and started talking to you.

But instead, you got scurred of losing a collection of pixels on a screen which represents some virtual avatar, so you ran away, defeating the purpose of the "game".

Congrats... You're a part of the problem.

I completely understand what your saying and I get it, but we have to admit your the exception not the rule in this game.  If your not on a HC server 90% of the people who tell you they see you are seeing you over a wall anyway or around a corner without any sights on you really.  They want you to drop your weapon so they have the advantage, what they do after that is up to them.  I don't play this game to kill time waiting to see what someone else wants to do with me.

Understand, my favorite part of this game is the journey to getting gear. Once I have a bunch there isn't much to do anyway so I don't mind getting killed and losing my stuff.  What I don't want is someone handcuffing me and me wasting time not having fun (because that doesn't sound like fun to me).

The irony is you want ME to drop my gun and trust you (and no I shouldn't just trust you because you see me and don't shoot me because as I said a good part of the time that person seeing you is using 3pp and couldn't shoot you then anyway) so why don't you drop your gun and come out and see ME?  For your protection right?  So screw that, if you want your gun for your protection I want mine for my protection too.  You don't trust me, but I'm to trust you completely?  Nah, sorry, you might be sent from the heavens to help me but the other 90% of the people I have ran into try to kill me so it's hard for me to just assume your not going to also.

Me and people like me aren't part of the problem, blame the high percentage of people who KoS and never give us a chance to trust anyone else they create this mess.  Or the people who say "we are friendly" then cuff you steal all your gear and leave you or shoot you anyway after they take your gear so it's not ruined.  Again, no thanks, you want to make friends with me, say you are friendly then drop your gun.  Then I can trust you (at least at that point for the time being),

The same fucking fantasy where people whine about feeling bad after killing in game; friendlies, geared people or newspawns..

#5 all day er'yday.

I can't believe how many people in this game suck at shooting.

Every encounter I've met bar 2 now has ended in me getting shot in the back. If I got a chance to be robbed at gun point I'd sit through it just for the experience. It then becomes a game of seeing if you can make it out of it alive. Give people a reason to interact with you or we can all keep quiet and just KOS everyone we see and all look like a bunch of morons.

I don't feel bad for killing in game, which is probably why I would quickly assess that you're clearly trying to prove you have a huge E-peen with your military gear, and not hesitate to pop several virtual caps in your virtual ass without bothering to ask you to drop your weapon. Call it manifest destiny. You run around assuming everyone is as much of a xenophobic asshole as you are and you convey this through your actions, at which point people fulfill your wishes and provide you with the harsh player reactions you so deeply crave to reinforce your paranoid delusions.

Don't mistake my kindness for weakness. I help players after I evaluate them as potentially friendly and mostly harmless. But you? If your head was on fire I wouldn't piss on you to put it out.

I understand your perspective but I do not agree with your reaction to being held up.

I HAVE come across people who tried to hold me up. One guy shot at me while I was at the fountain in Elektro.. I ran around a building, and he came running after me, shooting at me again while he told me to "STOP MOVING!", as if he was going to take me hostage. I promptly put 2 Mosin shots into his chest, and informed him over direct chat, "That's not how this works. You don't have control over the situation."

Bottom line is, there are two ways you get out of becoming someones hostage:

1. They are bad at this game, and they let you get away or kill them because they do not know how to properly control the situation. (Example above.)

2. They are good at this game, and you trying to run will only result in your death.. Where as, you cooperating with them may result in torture, or it may result in them being very helpful towards you.

Either way... What are you really losing? If someone wants to kill you, odds are they won't bother holding you up in the first place.. They'll just camp in an area where you don't see them and shoot you while you're not paying attention. If someone wants to have a player interaction, however, they HAVE to get in close and communicate with you.

Yes, there are assholes out there who will hold you up just to torture you. Popular YouTubers like DevilDogGamer are perfect examples of this kind of asshole. But I assure you, you aren't going to successfully run from DevilDogGamer, as he travels with a pack of assholes and all of them enjoy shooting undergeared players for "good content."

Then, there are players like myself and the few guys I roll with.. We would rather teach you something about the game and possibly get you to join our TS and become a part of a community, than feed you disinfectant for....what purpose exactly? Oh yes, to satisfy our sadistic urges.. Yeah, not everyone is like that, and when you assume everyone is you are robbing yourself of potentially good experiences, as well as the potentially bad ones.

Essentially, it's kind of like saying "Oh my god, this girl broke my heart.. I've had my heart broken so many times. All girls are evil bitches, I'm just going to kiss guys from now on."

I love these threads because it always boils down to, "my way of playing the game is better than yours, AND you're stupid!".

Only problem with your post is that in my experience 9/10 times I've been stopped it's asshats that want nothing more than to be sadistic idiots. Those are the people who are part of the problem.

The only times I have been killed was due to my own stupidity.  I no longer rush into areas and do a fair bit of scouting before moving as stealth as possible into certain areas.  If you are being given an ultimatum by someone you did not see, it is your own fault for being careless.

Someone tried this with me today at the NWAF. I saw some aggro'd z's running down the runway so I decided to watch and eventually I saw an uber geared player coming towards me. He tried to hold me up but I just laughed in his face which pissed him off. Then I ran away dodging 10 sks rounds which all missed apart from one.

I love my press vest sometimes, can take that round and not even get damaged because of it.

I actually figured out the whole meaning of everything in DayZ. It's a CIA recruitment program developed by former military officer Dean Hall (Agent Rocket). They were looking for all the John Rambo/Carlos Hathcock harddick motherfuckers the internet had to offer and got it in spades. They want no remorse KoS, back stabbing future Jason Bournes, but things got out of hand and Agent Rocket is trying to get out and start a rival covert recruitment for the New Zealand KGB.

I probably (if it matters any) included that I was 4,000 miles away from any major city and on a server that had only 6 players on it.....what's the odds of running across a player in a rundown castle?  1 in a million?   I was heading East and stopped by to check out the castle when this happened.  It took me by surprise only because the limited number of players and being out in the sticks, it's the last thing I would have expected.

But unless I have a view on the player from the start...I'm not sticking around....either shoot and kill me or I'm outta there.  Sure I could have circled around and attempted to reverse the situation, but why? It wasn't like I was out looking for contact with another player...(I was out in the freakin' sticks...crossing a freakin' huge map to get to another location).  If I want contact I'll head to a major city and look for people on a full server!!
I've spent 6-8 hrs collecting my gear.....screw those who want to take it in 5 minutes!  Figure if I'm running away from them and they unload on me......they'll screw all the gear up anyway.  It's why I put all my food in the yellow containers and leave my ammo out of them.  They'll have to shoot me in the back, which will most likely waste all the ammo...they can walk away with their just rewards and be so proud of their superior game play.

Generally speaking once someone starts running it's hard to hit them. That's why imo it's important to not miss with the first shot. I've had players unload full m4 mags at me and not scored one hit. Maybe it's a combo of lag, desync and shit aim.

I would stop, raise my hands and see what he/she did.

If KOS I'll simply respawn at the coast.

If Bandit, play along.

If friendly, give them kudos.

Kill him because I'm afraid of my character? Nah, what's to lose? Once guns (if ever) does not define the game I most likely will attempt other measures/a different approach. Or to put it this way; If it will take me days to get to where I am when encountering another character, I will be more careful, but like now when you can get more or less the same gear in an hour or two...not much to defend really.

Let the triggerhappy have thier way if they want, they will have to take interaction into account sometime in the future, and then even playing along as a hostage might be fun in itself. I guess whatever playstyle people chose to do it will help balance the game in the end.

100% of time you should run and do the detroit sidestep because it's almost impossible to hit a moving target in this game unless it's a lucky shot..

i have detroit sidestepped in to someone while facing them and they firing at me... i end up axing them always
