Apocalypse Economics

 I haven't really found a thread dealing solely with this topic.

So, if any mods want to merge this thread with something similar it's fine by me. :)

 

 I know the DayZ Mod has a trader post in a hanger which seems to look like a no-fire zone. I saw that on one of Frankie's uploads. I think it'd be great to see something like that in the SA game. If being centrally located somewhere (not to mention spray painting signs around notifying players about a market place) is too tempting for robbers and their ilk, it might be cool to create a barter economy based on traveling traders. Food for ammo, ammo for gear, etc.

 A clan base which functions as a market perhaps?

No!! ahaha god i hate Frankie and his vids! (such a bastard!) anyway what you saw was in a Mod OF the mod. IE Epoch, origins, or some other non-vanilla bs. No safezones, although i cant wait for trading to come back :) No one is safe ever ;)

I agree kind of ... not about the safe area part but I think having a means for trading would be cool. But it would be cool to make some kind of commodity that can be used as currency if player clans want to set up their own trading areas.

 

I am think something along the lines of bottle caps in fallout. My first thought was cans of beans... but that wouldn't work because they take a slot of inventory each and thus wouldn't make a good currency, then I thought bullets but hopefully bullets become very rare at some point so they also wouldn't make good currency... Zombie ears ;) would make a funny currency. 

 

Well my point is instead of making any forced in game trading stuff, it would be nice to have something small that doesn't take up a lot of space that can be used as apocalypse currency. But base building has to come before all that obviously.

em you guys do your trade and other 9999 campers, KOS, snipers, hoppers etc. are on meeting and kill you bouth...

Here is how trading works in DayZ: I give you all my bullets and i pick up your stuff from your corpse.

Basicly this, on the mod you had some servers that had a strong force of defenders to protect the castle (was used as a trade spot) while people were trading

That works if you have enough people ( preferably more than those who want to kill you ) or you need more "market spots" so they can't be camped 24/7. Nothing stops another player from hunting you down after you left the market or safe zone. Altough it's called safezone it doesn't stop you from beeing griefed even on the inside.

It was a clan protecting the castle back then, think they had like 20 ppl pure on recon/def. And yea people left and got killed indeed by bandits waiting for them :P

there is a trading topic on the forum, also there are quite a lot of people that will feed you for quite some time, if you hand them a long range scope etc..

Player trading "safe zones" or creating a trade route would be pretty cool. However, it would flourish or fail soley on the ability of players to act sesensibly and with maturity, both which I feel couldn't possibly exist for any reasonable amount of time. The last thing I want to see is the dev team adding no kill zones to facilitate such a need. We all know they would end up being camp areas for bandits.

Two things that I believe would edge players to take trade seriously:

1. Dramatically decrease loot spawn and,

2. Make eveything on a killed player ruined, or at least put in an RNG chance that thier items will be ruined and unusable.

This way players will have to seek out one another for supplies, and omit the chance of "I will just kill you and take your stuff."

I spent some time checking before I created this thread. Also, since this thread hasn't been merged yet I assumed there wasn't a topic about trade. Could you post the link?
