Experimental - New melee animation.

For those who play on the experimental what do you think about the new melee system?

The new animation is a bit annoying for me. The axe raise pose and swing is cool but I hate not being able to swing from the idle pose. You should be able to raise and swing the axe in one click.

Better yet, I wish they could implement a hold and release attack animation where you can control the weight of the swing by how long you hold the attack button. A quick click swings quickly but with less damage while a longer click will unleash a big heavy attack that could kill in one hit or at least cut off limbs.

this is a known issue by developers in the experimental it will be fixed

It's a little awkward to get used to, but I see where they are going with it. It's nice to be able to show your intent by having the weapon raised or lowered in a proper manner like that as opposed to the completely weirdo version we had before. Now if only players gave a shit whether your weapon was lowered. <_<

yes its a little awkward . just needs to be simpler. also the sound of the chop is synced to the mouse click not the actual hit of the axe but thats being picky :lol:

New axe swing make sense. The other animation was weird and not at all like you would swing a 2 handed weapon.

It actually CHOPS!™ now. I feel like a big boy.

Not a fan of transitional animation stances to simulate fluid IRL movements, but is not a game breaking thing.

 

At rest you just carry the axe and you have to go ready to use it.

 

Overall I like it, plus the cross cut animations look sweet. The bash crunch animation with the extinguisher looks great as well.

Seems like the strike range is short with the fire ax.  Zeds can hit you from 2-3 times farther away than you can hit them...not a big deal as they are wimps at the moment...but it doesn't feel balanced and reasonable.

I saw a similar suggestion on reddit I hope they are considering this

Animations are fine but I would like to been able to swing you axe while sprinting like before, attacking while sprinting should make less damage than attacking while jogging maybe.

It's good, but having to ready your weapon before you attack is actually a glitch I believe, looking at the patch notes.

 

 


Known Issues:
  • Physics: Item throwing physics is currently disabled
  • Melee: Gestures currently do not work from two-handed melee
  • Melee: Cannot conduct melee attack from "lowered" melee stance (press space to chance stance to "raised")

i think the addition of the space bar actually makes it worse. less complicated.

It's a bug. You're supposed to still be able to swing an axe from the idle position.

To bad, I like it the way it is now.

If you have it raised then you are going to hit someone or thing.

You cant shoot a gun from the "down" position, why should you be able to swing that way?

I dunno, if they change it I wont care to much,but I have to say it kinda makes sense this way.

I think the intention is that you have to click once to raise the axe before you click to swing it, that's how guns work in the down position currently.

Now if only players gave a damn that your weapon is in the down position and that you clearly don't intend to be hostile. :(

I am really happy you like it guys. The swings and attacks should get polished a bit in upcoming days so they feel even better. The goal was to have different attacks for different weapons since in real life you perform different move with an axe, baseball bat or farming hoe.

The new way two handed melee works is something you really need to get used to. The purpose of raised and lowered stance is actually as you say. Players should see if you are threat or not. We wanted to bring consistency with other weapons (guns). The actual bug is after you click left mouse button you won't get to the rised pose, spacebar is needed. There is also a chance we enable attacking from lowered stance if players will demand it, but then again raised stance will loose its purpose.

Though I cant say that Im truly happy with the changes, I respect the work put into polishing and improving the two hand animation. I actually gotten used to it in a few minutes. :)
