Bell 206 Jet Ranger

Recommended Posts

Just another Suggestion for when most things are finished, aircraft wise the Jet Ranger would be another decent choice to go with for the largest helicopter in game. It can hold 1 pilot and 4 passengers, has the ability to be customized, and is one of the most produced helicopters. For these reasons I believe that this would be a good option for the main helicopter for Dayz. Thanks and would love to hear what people think.

Is it a news/ civilian helicopter only?  Or does this helicopter also feature some use by the Russian military or other branches of law enforcement?  I never have heard of this helicopter until now.

I would also want to see more domestic equipment beeing more common. It's Not that we have a lack of russian companies there.

No self-respecting oligarch would be seen dead in an Mi-8, so the boss of Chernagazprom might have one of these...

The Jet Ranger/Long Ranger used to be the most common civilian helicopter in the west. But in the east it was the Mi-8, which was made in much greater numbers than the Jet Ranger (about 7500 of those were made, while there were AT LEAST 17000 Mi-8's produced), so that would make much more sense than an outdated, american helicopter.

Rich people today typically get either an Augusta 109 or a Eurocopter Ecureil, but the map is WAY too small for more than one or two helicopters in all, so one light heli (possibly imported Robinson R-22 or similar), and one heavy which should really be an Mi-8.

Pretty much all eastern European countries used Mi-8s or Mi-17s in the same role as the Huey anyway. Another reason an Mi-8 makes sense :).

I personally don't think their should be helicopters in game at all. They are not easy to learn to fly and its not like everyone in the game spawns as a former heli pilot.

OH GOODNESS NO!  I really don't want to see helicopters or any flying vehicle, period!  The truth is, if the "apocolypse" were to happen, there wouldn't be a single flying vehicle around.  It just doesn't fit in this game.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this game supposed to have a "you don't have much to survive on, but make it happen" kind of feel?  Adding helicopters would basically just tell me, leave this area and find a civilian camp.

And using a helicopter for a trip of 5km in each direction from the middle of the map doesn't make sense and is a waste of fuel and i hope they make jet fuel veeeery rare. Not that you couldn't use the fuel to power your car or truck...if it had a turbine of course. If we had to cover distances like over 50km one way it would make more sense.

I would have to disagree. Though aircraft should by no means be common just because it's the "apocalypse" does not mean all aircraft don't work or whatever. I believe helicopters should be very rare, small planes and ultralights should be more common, I was just throwing out the idea for the sky ranger because they are common and around that area of the world as well.

I also think a mi 2 or ka 26 would be better then an mi17 just my own opinion. I don't like the fact that an mi17 could carry the whole server

Actually, if the apocalypse were to happen on the scale of DayZ and the human density was around 80-100 per 225m squared, there would be tons of surplus guns, food, medicine and plenty of cars/aircraft. Not to mention this is a mostly rural country very close to the Middle East,

it would be much different somewhere in the United States; there would be shit everywhere. I mean, with that surviving ratio (obviously higher in the US due to number of people, but still a significantly small number of people) pretty much everyone left in the U.S. would have stockpiles of hundreds of guns, including military weaponry.

Well, to be realistic, there probably wouldn't be anyone left to take care of a helicopter. Ultralight aircraft make more sense, as they're much easier to service and require less specialised parts.

That's why I think the majority should be ultralight aircraft, but I would also like to see one or two helicopters. I think they should also be hard to find and hard to maintain though. I just like talking about what people what to see in game.

And wher would those billionaires be? I don't see any rich guys / gals palace...

Chernarus must have had some sort of corrupt president.

I don't really see the Jet Ranger as a billionaires helicopter or a presidents, the one about is actual a just flight tour chopper in the Czech Republic. The Bell 206 is also used for crop-dusting.

I just don't understand why there would be choppers around.  If you look at the situation of hurricane Katrina, there were no aircraft around besides the 747's, 757's, etc. that were in decommission status.  There weren't any choppers.  These types of aircraft are not just left lying around.  They're used to get out of dodge before the stuff really hits the fan.

In the case that it really hits the fan all at one time with no warning, yes - there would be helicopters.  But in the case of a virus outbreak, there likely wouldn't be a single helicopter in or even near the affected area.

I also agree with what one person posted above.  Though the map for DayZ is big, it's not big enough to implement choppers.  Simple land vehicles, yes, but not air vehicles.  Just last night, I ran from Elektro to the NE airfield in about 30 minutes while looking for food and stopping for water along the way.  A bicycle or jeep would cut that in half or a third, and a helicopter would get you across the map in three minutes.  It would make the world look MUCH, MUCH smaller.

It's just my opinion that aircraft would ruin the game.  If they ARE implemented, I'll get used to it, but I DEFINITELY agree that they should be VERY rare with missing parts and fuel required to find in order for it to be operable.

Yeah I can respect your opinion. However  playing devils advocate how do you know this is the only effected area or first? For all we know this was the last know place to hold out or people could have flocked to this area (lots of military presents/airports). That is what I love about dayz you can make up your own story.

i dont mind having aircrafts in dayz... but they should be rare and in no working condition unless you fix it with parts you have to gather first.

Repairing and Gathering stuff is a great way to spend time after you have your basic gear to survice...

maybe besides just the raw parts some manual or repairing handbook would be needed as well.

and well they should be rare... i dont want to see every second person flying arround with it

btw, i would like to see stuff like this:

phantom-aeronautics.jpg

building/repairing/flying an ultra light aircraft is much more realistic for the normal survivar that doesnt have a pilot lincense or a degree in mechanical engeneering :)

Could not agree more about the rarity and ultralights, I love the phantom by the way (its aerobatic). Though not crazy about the need of manuals, could be something like a reference book for parts that are used for repairs or something.

A more realistic "Small" helicopter that would fit Chernarus better in my opinion would be a civilian or surplus military variant of the Mil Mi-2 seen here:

Barkol_Mil_Mi-2.jpg

There could still exist the Bell 206 and another helicopter I'd love to see is the Bell 47 also seen here:

I've actually suggested the mi 2 and ka 26 already in its own topic, would love to see it in game just thought the bell 206 could fit. I also like the idea of the bell 47

You're an idiot. Just because there's a zombie apocalypse doesn't mean all the vehicles disappear.

BZZZZZT! Wrong answer sir. Anything from the mod-which I'm guessing you haven't played-fits the standalone. And when the apocalypse happens, the flying machines don't all go the way of Zac Efron's career. They get flown, some leave Chernarus's borders, and some crash into the ground or are left behind.
