nickaepi 1 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) I just started playing DAYZ (Mod version) a few days ago so excuse my lack of knowledge. I am playing on a well-populated "vanilla" server (20-50 people), on Veteran settings. I understand the concept of food, medicine, etc. I had heard all this talk, before starting, about bandits vs heroes and all this stuff. Someone mentioned in a guide that a person would be dressed in certain attire if they were "bad". I saw a guy with an army outfit and what looked to be a turbine. He clearly saw me and said something and then just kept running around. I guess I am trying to figure out what to look for, as far as someone I should possibly shoot first (only to save my life), if I see them before they see me. I want to play the role of a "hero", only shoot back if someone attacks, or help people that need food, meds, trade, go into town together for supplies, etc. It said it would raise my "humanity level" (which I don't know how to see that "stat"). Are you able to see other players "humanity levels" on a certain screen to get an idea of how the server is popluated (good vs. bad)? I don't know if different server types have different rules, or whatever. I picked Vanilla, to start, so I could learn the game (there's like 1000's of servers, which is confusing for a Newb). I enjoy it thus far but all my interactions have been super friendly (seems almost overly-friendly) where I am not afraid at all of other players, just sneaking past zombies and getting supplies. I almost feel like I should be a "bad guy" just to spice things up but that's not the role I really intended. Any suggestions? I know there is another server discussion but if someone could point me in the right direction on good server settings for the best "Day Z experience" (I want to be afraid of bad guys, find some good guys and keep the game as close to vanilla as possible (anti-cheat stuff, etc.) Edited February 25, 2014 by nickaepi
wartzilla 182 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) There are no servers with different rules or anything. DayZ is DayZ, and it's always a free-for-all. The only distinction is hardcore and regular, which is first-person-only and third-person-allowed respectively. These servers save different characters, so you have a hardcore character and a regular character. Some servers ban people for playing ways they don't like, but those are actually breaching terms of service and should be reported. And no, you can't see 'humanity level' or anything like that, because it's unrealistic. You have to choose whether it's worth the risk to trust or contact someone.
