Uh Oh! I'm already being reported. Sorry! "I'm friendly!" Lol.
  3. I just started playing DAYZ (Mod version) a few days ago so excuse my lack of knowledge. I am playing on a well-populated "vanilla" server (20-50 people), on Veteran settings. I understand the concept of food, medicine, etc. I had heard all this talk, before starting, about bandits vs heroes and all this stuff. Someone mentioned in a guide that a person would be dressed in certain attire if they were "bad". I saw a guy with an army outfit and what looked to be a turbine. He clearly saw me and said something and then just kept running around. I guess I am trying to figure out what to look for, as far as someone I should possibly shoot first (only to save my life), if I see them before they see me. I want to play the role of a "hero", only shoot back if someone attacks, or help people that need food, meds, trade, go into town together for supplies, etc. It said it would raise my "humanity level" (which I don't know how to see that "stat"). Are you able to see other players "humanity levels" on a certain screen to get an idea of how the server is popluated (good vs. bad)? I don't know if different server types have different rules, or whatever. I picked Vanilla, to start, so I could learn the game (there's like 1000's of servers, which is confusing for a Newb). I enjoy it thus far but all my interactions have been super friendly (seems almost overly-friendly) where I am not afraid at all of other players, just sneaking past zombies and getting supplies. I almost feel like I should be a "bad guy" just to spice things up but that's not the role I really intended. Any suggestions? I know there is another server discussion but if someone could point me in the right direction on good server settings for the best "Day Z experience" (I want to be afraid of bad guys, find some good guys and keep the game as close to vanilla as possible (anti-cheat stuff, etc.)
  4. Thanks for the buzz kill. ;) That would have been perfect. I think I will go with Arma2 & OA and download free mod. See if a sale pops up again. Thanks for all your input guys. Great forum here.
  5. So you have both the Mod AND the standalone? It sounds like the standalone is going in a different direction than the Mod itself and the Mod won't be equal to the standalone version? Is that correct? I assume the Dev is putting all his efforts into the Standalone If so, I guess I need to decide if I want to purchase Arma 2 and the required expansion, which is really the only way (that I am aware of) to "demo" what DayZ is really all about. Then if I end up loving DayZ Mod, I would essentially have to purchase the Standalone, at some point. Not trying to sound cheap just being efficient with my funds.
  6. This is my 1st post here. I recently downloaded the ARMA 2 OA demo because of all the stuff I have read and heard about DayZ. I enjoy Arma but after watching all the youtube videos of people playing DayZ, this looks amazing and would be a lot of fun to play. If I were to purchase Arma 2 Combined Operations from Steam, it says I can download DayZ mod for free. The combined price for Arma2, OA & Dayz Mod is 24.99. If I just purchase DayZ standalone, it says it costs 29.99. My question is this: Isn't the DayZ mod and Standalone the same game, essentially? I can save 5 dollars, and get all 3 games for 25 bucks. If not, what are the differences between the official DayZ mod and the standalone product? Are they not going to support the official DayZ mod anymore, if I were only to get the ARMA2 package? I'm confused on this. Essentially, I would like to have both games, Arma2 & DayZ but I don't want to buy the Arma package with the free mod and then have to "re-buy" DayZ standalone, at a full price, later on. Will the Mod keep getting updated like the Standalone? Sorry for the long post. Hopefully someone understands what I am asking and can give some insight. I don't want to make a purchase on either games until I am more informed. Thank you in advance.
