Players need to make a sound when combat logging

Recommended Posts

Currently, if someone gets shot, he can go hide in a building and just combat log. Happened to me several times - I wound a guy, he doesn't bandage, just straight combat logs around the corner. Of course, I can't know if he's waiting for me behind the corner or logging, by the time I approach him from another angle he's gone already.

So I think there needs to be an audio cue when logging off, like a sound where someone packs their items into their backpack or something, a lot less obvious than the spawning in noise, but still one that would prevent people from just running inside a building and logging in the middle of a fight.

This sounds awfully similiar to what happened to me, but i was the one who got shot, bandaged and flanked around the building and tailed it.

Did you shoot me at NWAF on experimental?

if there was audio cues you'd be taking away a great part of the game, tension, is he in there? is he gone? is he waiting for me with his gun ready or is he just a coward and logged off?

I don't think I should have to feel super tense if all the guy did was log off. I had a situation recently where someone logged off immediately when they saw me.

??

Perfectly fits a 30 seconds timeout ...

This would suit the guy that logged when I saw him lol.  I didn't even have my gun out.

Pffff, taking away a great part of game, are you kidding me? What's great about a guy silently teleporting to safety? If he's logging off I want to have a way of knowing it, otherwise it's on the aggressor to take a gamble, which is NEVER a good design decision - if you're tailing it, you aren't risking anything if you are behind a corner, whereas the attacker has to either walk in and be in a disadvantaged position if you aren't logging.

No I didn't shoot you at NWAF.

I think he means just a short sound so you can hear when people log out. That way you can go in there and shoot their character.

I do but that was funny anyway, fits their character. I've been shot and sat in buildings for a good 30 minutes waiting for someone to come, only to find out people on the OUTSIDE logged..

The game is made for you to feel tense.

This game isn't made for those who want it easy or the weak, if you want to make sure he's not there or he's still there, take the risk.

Audio cues for logging off would be abused too much, people would just sit around at places waiting to hear the sound and then pop in, shoot you, take your stuff and leave.

Oh well, sounded very similiar.

I know it's made for me to feel tense, and I've felt tense tons of times. It's what I love about the game. I don't mind taking a risk in doing something either, because I've done that plenty of times too. But it doesn't seem like much of a bad idea to have a small sound saying that they logged off. Maybe it could play after their body was gone even. Just to know.

The only part you'd be taking away is combat logging. No reason to make it easier for people who chose the coward's way out, quite the opposite.

I'm pretty sure a baby crying for 30 seconds would be too much, people could easily hear something like that when they didn't even know you were there and kill you when you wouldn't have even been killed. A little "beep-boop" sound or something would suffice.

Holy shit man, the game isn't make for those who want it easy or the weak, yet you suggest something that helps people that combat log, can you be more hypocritical please? And for the last time, there is no tension in having a guy magically teleport out of combat, none at all. Highlighted important bits in comic sans, since it's appropriate here.

And about logging off, if you log out in places where people usually hang out, you deserve to get shot, that's it. People who log out in a safe place won't be affected by this at all, all you seem to be implying here is to protect your scared sorry ass when you run off to a building and log out.

There is this panic sound when you are close to death and beeing attacked by zeds...could be a useful sound when someone is cornered and combat logs.

You're very amusing, i've never combat logged and i usually go on a rant over people who do so against me.

I'm not here to protect anyone, i'm just saying that anything can be abused if there is a distinct noise made by it.

The logging in sound is one such annoying little issue, it alerts anyone close by of someone logging in.

For example, i was out in the woods running and then sat down in a treeline to shift through my gear, then all of a sudden i hear someone log in, sat still and watched him run off, if i were you i'd probably have shot him to pieces, it can be abused.

Combat logging will be dealt with appropriately, sound cues isn't one of the things we need, especially when the ambient audio is completely fucked.

I just tend to rush people a lot more now if they hide in a building.

Works 90% of the time. Most people don't expect you to follow them inside a building.

Are you by chance trolling, if so you're doing a very good job, consider me trolled. Otherwise, you have a really bad memory for someone who says they never combat logged.

Hearing someone in the middle of the woods logging in seems far unlikely to me, and if it indeed was the case, what of it, chances are, someone who logged in did so in a bush or tree, not in the open where they can be seen.

If sound cues are not the needed thing, then please, by all means, make your own suggestion instead of defending cowardly gameplay.

Aww you're such a cutie when you're mad :)

It's as likely as anything in this game, i've literally logged in at the exact same moment as some random guy in the exact same spot and we both panicked and ran, anything can happen.

Like i said, sound cues can be abused, i'm not defending combat loggers, i'd rather see them stripped of their gear and spawned on the coast to become cannon fodder.

Nah, you're cute when you think you're brainfarts are making someone mad :)

Yea, please tell me how many times that LITERALLY happened. This is very fascinating.

Sorry man you say one thing in one paragraph but the other in the next, make your mind up.

I don't think a panic sound would fit. When would the game even know if it's a combat situation? Any solution to that is too taxing on the sevrers, atleast that's what I've heard.

I would like sleepy sounds when logging out. You know yawn, and then snoring when the 30 seconds are almost complete. You shouldn't be logging out in a combat situation anyways.

I'd prefer the log out to done differently. Instead of their avatar sitting down, they could remove their backpack, curl up on the ground next to it and go to sleep. A yawn noise or some other indication of sleeping could sound, but only be audible within a limited range, like 5-10m. This would appear more authentic and could be tied into an idea I posted about tiredness but still alert people to combat logging.

if there was audio cues you'd be taking away a great part of the game, tension, is he in there? is he gone? is he waiting for me with his gun ready or is he just a coward and logged off?

Combat loggers get killed. How bad for the game.

Tension should only exist in mutual situations.. he shouldnt have to feel tension if youre running like a little girl and already playing on a different server.

I think if a bullet comes within 15 feet of your hit box and you log off/ALT+F4/internet fails within 2 minutes of that... YOU DIE.  Plain and simple..

I don't care what it is in all honesty, as long as there's something to indicate it, right now any defensive position is a safe zone for combat logging, 30 seconds alone don't make up for it, if you know someone's holed up you can't take your chances and just "hope" he logged or not, meanwhile the guy who is running with his tail between his legs gets the luxury of either picking to stay or moving on as he pleases.
