Why Were The Zombies Changed So Drastically Between Now And August?

Recommended Posts

When I viewed pre-release gameplay in August, the zombies looked quite fast and dangerous, keeping people on their toes. Now they just seem really slow and dull. Constantly slowing down every 5 seconds. I can literally jog past them. It's like fighting trash cans. Why where they changed so much?

Perhaps its partly you becoming accustomed to them now, they just aren't as scary anymore

I hope they speed them up. Hate these slow mofos

Yeah, we don't need slow brain eaters phasing through walls, we need them to bumrush us through them ! Can't wait for all the posts about beeing pushed through walls by zombies ramming people like it's no one's bussiness.

They are pretty much broken right now and are being worked on. Making any assumptions based on their current state is kinda pointless.

my assumption was that the mod was ported directly to the arma 3 engine.

zombie ai was bare-bones re-written and hasn't been dealt with.

Zombies add nothing to the game but jank and frustration.

Like rust they should be removed.

He made the zombies harmless until he can fix them.  Because in the mod they were either harmless, or killing you by cheating to win.  (Zombies used their glitchiness to kill you in dayz mod a lot.)

I think we'll first see the quantity of zombies improved before the behavior and strengths are changed. I think for now, as the game is still in alpha, the zombies are more of a prop to the game, I'm sure they will get stronger, faster and more dangerous.

As far as I know (read) zombies will be slow, Resident Evil 1, 2, 3 style, but in huge numbers and the map would have more cities and streets with alleys were can get trapped and stuff...a more proper envoirement I belive and personally love the idea

I was totally in agreement with this, but recently, I feel that this would still be in the favor of the KOS only crowd. If you want to pop people in the middle of a city, the risk should be getting bum rushed, not just have to deal with some shamblers that you can jog away from if you've covered your six.

Also, while it's still alpha, I truly don't believe in the limitations of this engine or the team's ability to optimize it. I'm sorry, but I just don't have the faith. I feel that having hundreds of zombies will result in endless game crashes and horrid performance that will never be stamped out.

I don't think its the AI that's the problem, its the terrible server side performance issues this game is having in the stable branch, try out experimental, they have done some amazing work on these performance issues and I can report that I was actually killed by a gang of zombies who fractured my arm (they can do that now) and beat me to death. It was awesome

You want them to act badly and behave borderline retarded?

I was kidding, they already do act that way. I'd actually like it if they ran slower but that's just me.
