More road signs

Recommended Posts

Hi! When I was running around up north, I was surprised by a lack of signage indicating highway numbers, major landmarks, important intersections etc. Needless to say I was butt-lost since I didn't have a compass, and couldn't follow any signs to civilization.

In real life, nearly every road and intersection has signage, even on the back highways.

DISCLAIMER: YES I REALIZE IT IS EARLY IN THE BUILD AND COSMETIC ITEMS SUCH AS SIGNS ARE NOT AS IMPORTANT at this time.

It is simply a feature I hope will be added in the future.

I agree with you tbf, the northern region of the map is very desolate but then you expect that if you go on the Day Z map on the website, however the lack of signs etc. can leave you stuck up there for awhile if you keep changing directions.

around 60% of that was my own doing I admit however being lost for ages, I kept thinking I'll go that way and I'll reach civilization, but then after seeing over the horizon changed directions again... haha.

This is a great idea. In real life finding your way around is easy due to the overflow of signs everywhere.

From your post assume you live in an area with a well built out infrastructure? Needless to say there are regions where you don't have any sign whatsoever. If you come to my place which is overloaded with roadsigns and head right over to france just about 50-70km away you will be surprised by the lack of speed limit signs and minimal signposting, just the necessaries like town names and distances...that's just how other countries are. I think it also depends a lot on the population density who would want to place a rosdsign on a crossroads in the middle of a desert where a car passes by every month?

Great point Enforcer, perhaps I am coddled by North American hand-holding, but major highways still are numbered and there is signage.

Thanks for joining the discussion :)

In an underdeveloped 3rd-world ex-soviet country like Chernarus, I highly doubt they would have signs everywhere.

No need for signs everywhere, but if you're up there and you see what looks like a major intersection, (and there are some big ones) you would expect to see something, even if it's "Elektrozavodsk - 8km" and an arrow.

My point exactly. Thanks :)

At the least, highways should have a few signs with teh highway's name/number and town names/distances should have more signs farther out than "Oh, I'm here.  What town is this?"  Even once you go inland, there are some pretty large towns/locations.

It doesn't have "0 signs", just enough signs to get by.

Run along major highway east/west.  (north of all towns) You sir are categorically wrong.

You have to look at the map. If you look closely you will see that although we have tons of roads there are just a few main roads ( the ones with the middle line ) and a lot of narrow roads ( which are more or less side roads or forest roads ) that are minor of would it rather be inferior? I don't have the word for that main road > side road > and then come the lesser roads i hope that shows my point. The more important roads like the coastal road or the road to Zelenogorks or the east-west road through Stary are such main roads and i would expect them to be loaded with roadsigns which they are. The minor roads are roads that would be frequently used by the locals. If you had every crossroads signed in detail it would be more confusing IRL like this exaggerated example.

The style for minor roads would be more like this.

Then look at the map. There are major roads up north with no signage. Lots of them. I'm not talking about the roads that are little more than dirt paths- these are wide paved roads with lines. You can follow them for hours without seeing a sign, even when they intersect. Since there's no towns either, and very few landmarks, it's easy to lose your bearings.

road signs in english too would be cool

Ok, now you're killing canon lore. The country of Chernarus is a 3rd-world ex-Soviet Chernarussian country. Why would they use English there? Most likely they would use Russian.

Look, you may like an easy game, but some players don't want their experience spoon-fed to them. I memorized the road signs, it makes it immersive.

I can't remember roadsigns beeing in english in my country...yet again...we have roman letters and they are readable to most people, funny thing though that a person who knows cyrillic knows the roman alphabet...kind of embarrassing don't you think? But in the time of the internet and abundance of information is it that difficult to google "russian alphabet in roman letters" to know how to pronounce the names? Are you people that lazy because you are

spoon fed

as Guppy said?
