Creaking sounds with doors

Recommended Posts

Just had the idea of adding sounds to doors. Especially the big metal gates and doors should produce creaking sounds when operated. Like those random metal gate sounds you tend to hear near villages.

Situation 1... you are in the firestation tower, looting away. You hear the creaking sound of the doors below (which you thoroughly closed behind you) and you know someone´s coming.

Situation 2... you see someone in the firestation looting away, but all the doors are closed. You know that operating the door would produce a noticable sound, so you quickly apply some oil to the hinges to reduce the sound.

I never understood the doors not making any sounds. Especially since people close them after themselves a lot of times when they're in buildings. If you aren't watching the door, you can't tell if someone opened it anyways.

I want door creaks!

I'm kind-of expecting these things in the fullness of time, to be honest (not that I have any firm facts to back up this expectation: it's just optimism, really!).

More sound effects, generally, and sound that carries over much bigger distances.

Doors and gates creaking

Louder footsteps

Louder gunshots (obvs)

People dropping objects

People opening their backpacks, fiddling with inventory

So if you're not being deliberately quiet and slow, someone's going to know if you';re in the same building or outdoor proximity as them.

I'd kill even for a placeholder sound, with Rocket going: iiiiiiiiiiiee  into a mic.

I think they should replace all in-game sound effects with ones done by Rocket's voice into a mic. That'd be hilarious.

When you fire your M4, you hear Rocket going "ATATATATATATATA!"

I'm looking forward to when they introduce cars, most: "Brrrrrrrrrrm, Brrrrm Brrrr, Brrrrrrrrrrrm"

How about letting me keep some empty bean cans so i can place an 'alert' at the doors. You open them and it kicks over the cans...just a thought.

This also applies to opening/closing carwrecks, looting a body (not creaking, duh), maybe even picking up stuff like cans, tools, metal stuff. Opening/closing full ammo boxes, opening/closing protective containers (plastic thudd-sound)... and the list goes on and on.

Maybe it´s because I´m a sound guy.

And a "Joooooeeeee!!!"-yell, everytime you shoot someone.

Pretty sure it's on the list of things to do just not very high. Having said that I want rocket voice sounds for everything.

+1 Should be in and I assumed the only reason they are not is early development stage (never played Arma or DayZ outside the standalone).

Bolting doors would be nice as well. Not the garages, not the gates... the doors of residential structures.

A bolted door can be smashed in with 3-4 strong kicks, with a chance of hurting the kicker per kick. Using an axe would be safer... shooting the lock could be possible as well.

That would require doors to be destructable objects... dunno if this is done easily with this engine.

Ah, the ideas and opportunities. :D

As said by Dean in the last Q&A stream:

Physics based doors, locking doors and a complete overhaul of doors in the future (including door sounds)

Player will be able to lock doors, zombies pile into them until they break

So...yeah, that's what said to be coming. We'll see what more - suggestions are always a good thing. Bad thing: In that subforum they may not be seen...

Just saying, you might not be able to open the big ass metal doors silently with just oil. And there's no locking mechanism but if there was, it would be a little bigger and louder than a door knob.

Yeah, true. It is like trying to open a hangar door silently by greasing the slide with butter. :)
