Apocrypha8 54 Posted February 20, 2014 I think we need to work on something like this as a community. This is a suggestion really, but this is general discussion about a suggestion. So, there is so much KoS; and a lot of people say that 'friendlies' wear brightly colored clothing. That is just impractical, because you are a complete target to KoSers. Now here is where people might say: "you have to compromise if you play friendly". I think the compromise should be something different, like bands of a specific color like UN blue or red. The reason I don't say white, is that along with the brightly colored clothing thing, when people use the gamma exploit any color besides camo is just glowing. Now, there is the UN beret, but therein lies the problem of sacrificing head protection. I would always rather have the ballistic helmet,Back on the bands thing, I'm thinking like different bands for parts of the body, mainly a band of 'friendly' color that is like a headband on your helmet. And then an armband, like up at the bicep area. Now for most people the Oompa-Loompa 'friendly' dance is mostly recognized, but if the other person isn't friendly, you're dead. Now my suggestion would be like, you can see that they're friendly from a distance.Of course people would be douchebags and pretend to be friendly, but that already happens. Along with maybe some sort of humanity system with this, would tie in well.Any thoughts, fellas?
Franchi (DayZ) 146 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) Any such system will be exploitable, gamers game the system in every game. When bandits exploit said system people will whine on the forums. The solution? Forget about a humanity system/friendly markers, play the game. Edited February 20, 2014 by Franchi

Irish. 4886 Posted February 20, 2014 Yeah, use proxy. Not trying to be curt or coy. But it works. Just state your intentions over the mic, get a feel for how people act and always, always watch your back before you open your mouth. I dont think anything else works really. Bandits will adapt. You have to go on gut feelings and experience on the friend or foe front.
Mullraugh 1151 Posted February 20, 2014 If a man talks to you in voice chat, 80% of the time they're friendly. Unless they sound like a douche or insult you.
omgwtfbbq (DayZ) 1069 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) Universal sign of friendliness: Your gun/axe is on your back, you are wearing normal clothes (Button down shirt + summer hunter pants for example) and your first move when you see them is to say hello. Works for me, because anyone who tries to attack me gets mowed down when they start rushing. Any friendlies are happy to have a chat (from opposite sides of the road to avoid any sudden fisting, of course), then continue on with their day. Any universal sign of friendliness besides this will be used by KoSers to get close to someone, then blast them in the face. Unless they sound like a douche or insult you.I agree, generally the ones looking to have fun at your expense betray themselves in their voice, not always but most of the time. A great way to gauge people is to stalk them for a long time before making contact. Where are they headed? How do they go about moving around? The buildings they search can tell you a lot about them, the buildings they pass over just as much. Even if there was a way to make a 100% non exploitable humanity system I wouldn't want it, it would remove so much from Dayz.
soulfirez 901 Posted February 20, 2014 live or die by the choices you make watch a player does he seem friendly??? make contact from behind and start a chat does he still seem friendly make your own choices on such matters.. As said any clothing items that denote a friendly will simply be worn by a bandit to allow him to get you to drop your guard... In the mod i was KOSed as much by the bandit heroes as straight bandits ( eg the guys who farmed humanity to get a hero skin so that they could pretend to be a hero but really just wanted to kill you... Chauz 166 Posted February 20, 2014 No, no, no, no. This game is all about your trust in people and if you trust you first thought. Some feature that does this for you just ruins the game imo.

I wasnt really talking about a humanity system. More along the lines of: "Do I trust this survivor wearing a friendly band?" *proceeds to watch player behavior and make decisions and calculate risk vs reward on player interaction*
guppy22143 1081 Posted February 20, 2014 You will be happy to know, they released pictures for a UN Peace Keeper ballistic helmet. :D
Zoridium JackL 16 Posted February 20, 2014 there's nothing wrong with having a friendly symbol, it just wouldn't work. generally I don't trust anyone, and if there are other people around i usually have my gun out (although not raised), if they wave or say hello I don't worry so much about them straight up attacking me but I'm still not likely to let my gaurd down.
