Zeroing Issues/Question

Recommended Posts

I recently learned how to estimate distance with the long range scope and then zero. The issue I'm having is that no matter what the distance I estimate it seems as though zeroing to 400m always results in the best accuracy. If the zombie is super far away, I hit it perfectly when zeroed to 400 but miss with 800. When it is close I hit it perfectly with 400 as well.

I'm using the equation d = 1.8 * 1000 / mildots

There aren't mildots so I just estimate. Using that equation I estimated a zombie to be at a distance of 1200m. I zeroed to 800m and missed. I then zeroed to 400m and nailed it.

Does this have something to do with the server I am on or is this a bug? Anyone else encountering this issue or no what is going on?

You can't reliably estimate. Scope magnification is different than in ARMA 2, and altering the FoV slider's default position changes magnification as well.

I understand that my estimates may be off but why is it that zeroing to 400m always results in dead on accuracy?

It doesn't, it gives you a more useful trajectory.

Zeroed at 400 and aiming at someone's waist you would hit their torso from 0-400 meters.

Zeroed at 800 and aiming at someone's waist you would hit their torso from 0-90 meters and 750-800 meters.

400 is more useful overall.

Hmm, that kinda makes sense. I'll have to try some more. I feel like I'm hitting very easily at insane distances when zeroed to 400m. Sometimes I can barely see the target when fully zoomed and I still hit right on the crosshair when zeroed to 400.

I'll try some more and maybe make a video of what I'm observing if the issue persists.

that makes me wonder.

Has any Arma game or mod ever gotten front focal plane optics and correctly sized mildots right ?

Making mildots actually useful for ranging people and objects.

So this is the video I first saw on ranging/zeroing and it seems to work just fine for him. I think this was shot in the DayZ Arma2 mod. And I had seen people saying you can still estimate in DayZ SA even though there are no mildots. Hasn't worked very well for me so far though.
