Persistent Container AKA Tents? coming next update

Recommended Posts

It seems strange it would be a back pack (not saying it isnt  i dont know ) i could think of several containers that would make more sense like a tent but hey maybe he is trying to avoid tent even though it is what he added to dayz mod originally??

Just doesnt seem logical though so i drop my normal back pack to carry a special one that i drop for persistant storage?? and then what i hike back to where i dropped my original back pack??? rather than something like a tent which could be tied to the bottom of a back pack in a collapsed form....

I know Dean is creative but just sounds straight out of left field is all ...

LOL still waiting on confirmation the persistant container is a back pack cause the big reveal of this info only says container.... Not back pack...

He said it on Sacriel's stream the other day. Maybe OP was confused. http://youtu.be/uQMI-0y2oPE?t=3m43s

Also a backpack is a perfectly logical stash container, if I had a bag full of food and extra supplies I'd stick it somewhere and if I needed to take off quick I could grab it and go. Hunters, survivalists, and even soldiers often keep bags of supplies out in the field.

What's not logical about it?

the fact that you drop a back pack to pick up a special one that you drop for persistant storage and then go back and get a normal back pack...... Again not saying it isnt but in the stream he said container ( which may be literal or it may just mean any item thats holds something like a tent) a man who built the game from an original idea of just a survival game (before adding zombies) with mil training seems wierd he would hide his back pack to get another one to carry around rather than something he could put in or attach to his back pack....

Noooooooooo.....

No Persistent storage please.  Death should have some consequences.

Stuff doesn't just vanish when you die.

I think items "in storage" should degrade over time, so you aren't constantly stocking pristine items indefinitely.

when in the stream does he say its a back pack maybe i missed it the part i saw he said persistant container, i watched it all but hey i could have missed it ... yeah when in the army i left my backpack behind true but i wasnt then intending ongetting another one to wear around..

you generally use a back pack to carry gear more often extra items would be stored in special wraps that were water tight didnt degrade were easily wrapped tight to fit in pack and could be buried

Edit in my days in the australian army (which granted  was early to mid 90s) we called them slap bags

Edit 2 a few of my mates were put up on charges for storing ammo in them rather than carrying on long hikes for simple non combat exercises lol who wanted to carry 8 kilos of ammo in 45 + celecius heat through an arid zone in the middle of no where when you werent ever going to fire a shot...

Backpack was just mentioned in here cuz it's a container...  it could be anything, some already in game or a new addition.  We don't know and will have to wait.

Picture this

-get shovel

-dig hole

-get crate

-put crate in hole

-fill crate with non perishables

-protect metal object with oiled shirt lest they degrade.

-exit crate

-cover hole

-mask covered hole

-put x on map

The only way to detect these hidden treasures would be to cover the floor inch by inch while in inventory. (Or you could follow a player around until he shows you)

i watched sacriels stream on youtube last night, and he definitely said backpacks as persistent storage. but since there was 9 videos i couldnt tell you which one exactly, but i know it was early, just after the shootout when dean joined, and sacriel was still running around the same area as when dean joined the chat, but not the game.  not exact info i know but il back up the other guy who did say backpacks aswell.

personally though, id prefer a tent, or a stash buried in the ground (which is in the mod, or epoch)

but i wonder if a person dies and the server restarts, will their just be a bag lying on the ground, or will it disappear with the body

Persistent backpacks? wtf!

Why not just give us tents...

This makes sense to me. The way I see it, you go hide a few backpacks in the woods somewhere, you die, come back and you have some supplies. You still don't get guns from this, except sidearms and the shotgun maybe, but its some extra stuff. Of course if you suck at hide and go seek someone else gets your stuff.

With acres and acres of woodland to hide stuff i don't think the biggest danger is someone finding your stash. The biggest danger is forgoting what tree you stash it at in the middle of the forrest.

Now the big question is, where will you be hiding yours?

SO he told the same guy the same info he had told him a couple days earlier only this time specified back pack meh never saw that video hey i did say i didnt know what he would use just that video he didnt say back pack lol.

Still seems left field for me but hey storage is storage time to hunt for a back pack drop it then get a normal one again i guess lol..

Agreed.

Edit:

No wait, they should be relocated to an unknown location until server reset.

It would make death have more of a sting if your stash was randomly moved so your new character cant collect what an old one collected lol but that would be a mean move (fits perma death better though). id go south west area not to far out from the lowest town in the map,  next to no one goes below balota these days not much point to they not good looting towns ( just far enough out that a lost bambi treading the coast who has over shot balota wouldnt find it..

I think this idea is going to be nice for a few reasons.

1: It obviously gives us the first persistent storage.

2: It is a nice test for devs to see how persistent storage will work and they can see what needs tweaking.

3: End game now has a small goal.

Nah, if you are that close to see red mountain backpack then you will spot hunting backpack too. It's all about place where you hide it.

right in the middle of cherno.  no one ever goes there

People really need to stop thinking of this as a "perma-death" game. It is a "lose your inventory" game. Perma-death only really works in single player. In multi-player, you just meet back up with your friends again, you remember the map, you know where to go...

If you delete all signs of a character on death from the server, you make things unrealistic for the other players. Are you going to be happy when you find a player's stash, start looting, and poof it disappears because the player died?

Also, by the way, the reasons for backpacks that I can think of is that they can't hold primaries. Only backup weapons.

Even if you consider this a "lose your inventory game" having persistent storage defeats that purpose as you can just get all your loot back. What is the point of death at that stage? I am against permanent loot storage and I hope that at least Hardcore servers do not have that feature. They can be on regular servers.

How do you have bases and groups without some ability to store things? Playing with others is pretty well a "persistent storage" system as they either watch your stuff or pick it up for you to get back.

Maybe just have a low limit to the amount of stuff you can store long term, so even if a guy does die and goes back to his stash there really isnt a ton of stuff so he can just re-gear like nothing happened.

Only so many slots and one per player etc. Would force you to choose what you want to save long term, food or water or clothing or ammunition or other supplies etc as there isn't room for everything.

if we can drop backbacks and they survive server restarts, that would be the best news ever.. I think.
