Lots of questions.

So I got the game today, have been playing it all day. But I have a bunch of questions, like how the hell do you manage to survive to get actual weapons and gear. I always spawn at the same place, I looked up online, its in the new update, right? So people didn't commit suicide to get to [ Electic or something] .  I managed to find a shovel once, but a zombie still killed me. I'm playing on a server with not many people, so I can get my bearings, but the damn zombies. I cant find a gun of any sort, and I cant seem to last long enough to get to anywhere but houses.

 

Also, I was looking for signs in the game to tell me where I was at, couldn't find any, so I don't know where im at, so I cant move to a place with

weapons or gear.

 

Am I just bad at this game or do other people struggle with this to?

Aim for zombies' heads. It takes several hits to get them down with anything but a fireman's ax. Once you find one of those (or even a splitting ax) zombies won't be an issue.

Until then, if you have any sort of melee weapon, move in circles and hit them so they can't bite you. Even with your fists you can punch them in the face to knock them down, then double tab "w" to sprint away.

Road signs - get on a road and head to the edge of town. They are all in Russian though.

Your job is to survive, not get guns!

 

Find a fire axe for now for protection (not always easy). Learning the map will take a while. You seem to be concerned with knowing where you are so you can chase certain gear, rather than exploring the map and collecting supplies as you go. Not going to have a good time if that is, in fact, your goal. Battlefield, Arma, and Call of Duty are excellent options if you want a gun in your hands at all times though!

no that's not my goal, but I can see how I made it seem that way. The reason I want guns and gear is so that I CAN  survive, because right now, I'm not very good at doing that

I have been playing for few days, and this is what I have found out, ignore zombies altogether, just run, do not fight them, one day fire axe works, second day it doesn't. Fire extinguisher works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. Spawn area I find has nothing, so just either move down coastline to army base, or go inland, find a bigger town, should be able to find something. So in conclusion don't worry about weapons, worry about food and water. I lost few weapons due to ignoring thirst and hunger.

Road signs are faulty, load up a map on iPad or something, find a train station, should be easy to find especially if on coastline. Not sure if any help but I found a map in petrol station.

Never really had an issue with axes not working (1 hit with the fire axe, 2 with splitting axe normally kills them off).

 

Theres a few beginner guides on the forum 'which are worth a read..but as the above poster said.. first stop is find some water (you'll find wells dotted around the towns).

 

Most of the houses round the spawn points will have probably been picked dry by other players unless you fell lucky with a server restart.. so the best bet is to head north and you'll get to some places with a ton of loot. If you can't get your bearings then stick to the road - a lot riskier as plenty of bandits knocking about.. but stick with it - once you're through a few towns it'll be much quieter with a good chance of survival.

 

(You can use the clouds to get an idea of where north is.. they go from west>east.)

A tip for killing zombies is to only move sideways and turn with your mouse, then just smack away. They shouldn't be able to hit you..

 

Usually I don't go in all houses when I'm jogging through Cherno, just get the stone-build ones. You probably will leave some good loot behind, but you will cover more ground. Just see what works best at the time
