3 statements on how to really remove serverhopping (which still is possible)

ok i have a real thing to say about this actually.

 

1. i like the timeout. 300 seconds are reasonable.

 

2. i would like MORE if you actually could rejoin the same server you have been on without this restriction. (internet disconnect -> 30 sec sitting -> CANT RELOGIN to get to safety)

 

3. and furthermore i would even have something like this in mind -> choose 20 servers of your favorites which u can flag as "MAIN" servers, you can switch between those with 300 sec delay

and you can not join other servers, unless u redefine your "MAIN" servers. you can redefine a "MAIN" server every hour. you dont have to use all 20 flags at once. but as soon as u have

chosen all your main servers u will have to wait 1 hour if u want to switch a server you dont like anymore with a new one.

that way the REAL serverhopping problem (which still exists with 300sec delay) would be taken care of.

Hmm the flagging servers seems a little over complicated. What's wrong with just 300 wait every rapid swap?

 

Also if you don't have the timers on when joining same server, people could start ghosting again. Especially in long range engagements ;)

Ah this doesnt stop server hopping it just limits it to 20 servers LOL oh so your not an overly greedy server hopper.....

by waiting 300 seconds and going to the next server?

 

log out near airfield -> wait 5 minutes -> log in next server with low pop -> grab stuff . rinse & repeat.

 

 

 

well maybe reduce it to 5-10 servers then. so you cant just do it all day long...

and limiting it to 5-10 server means you have to be lucky that on all 4-9 other servers the loot has freshly respawned.

so maybe you can do it 1-3 times then its over.

with this method it would take the fun out of it anyway. someday the people who server hop will be frustrated because

it costs them the SAME amount of time to gather stuff as a normal player

and thats what has to be designed. it has to cost the same amount to gain about the same loot when hopping

as when not hopping by putting in penalty delays that make up for the running from one looting spot to the other

it's not you who has to implement it.

 

it's easy on the user end... you'll see...

 

you won't even need a brain for it.

I don't think anyone means over complicated for the user....just in general. I mean you would still get a 300 sec penalty with or without that system. For a hopper to exceed ten servers they would have to spend at least 50mins waiting, are they really that dedicated lol ? :)

Right but that's what we have right now so whats the need to limit to 20 servers if the outcome is the same ??

There is none, that's my point lol. If they are impatient enough to hop for gear, I doubt they got the patience to spend 50 mins waiting while they hop 10 servers. Probably just hop a couple till they get a gun, then go after combat. So limiting to 10 or 20 wouldn't really help  :)

Let's just face it, you can't stop serverhopping unless you make it one char per server only, which isn't going to happen. The only way you'll solve it with timers is if the timers are longer than the time it takes for a person to get from point A to point B (points most likely corresponding to the locations of military bases and airfields), which of course isn't going to happen because no one would play a game where you have a 30 minute log in timer everytime you lose connection or just need to switch servers because of lag or whatever other reason you might stumble across. You could make the task of server hopping more tedious by counting how many times you disconnect and reconnect from servers and add timers based on that amount instead... not sure how that would work though and the timers would of course have to reset after X amount of time has expired and/or when you've quit the game. And considering the fact that you can most likely get pretty decent gear in 3-5 servers the timer increase would have to be pretty steep and then you're back at the fact that long timers affect players who do not server hop and will most likely make it so that less people will play.
