What do you imagine DayZ camps to look like?

Recommended Posts

Well, if you set up in a remote enough location you could be fairly safe from bandits, you would have storage, and it would also serve as a great area for role-playing.

Storage was always my first reason to build a camp, followed closely by "man....how cool does this look" lol. My group dosent roleplay really, but I don't mind. But sitting round the campfire admiring your tents/cars while chatting away and having a smoke was brilliant. Not to mention logging in and being able to think...."hmmmm what loadout should I take today" :)

Yeah, the storage is going to be the main reason and also once vehicles are in the game it would provide a safe place to park them without having to worry too much about people jacking them or scavenging parts.  My favorite part would be sitting back and admiring the camp I made with my friends.

One of the best things about DayZ is that you roleplay without trying...Having to do it myself would take away from that, and I'd get bored. As for bandits, I'm almost certain that anyone who found the camp would shoot everyone inside. Again, I'd need more incentive to build a base than for storage and role playing.

just like that in the pic, and i'd also like to be able to plant things near my camp.

Being able to plant gardens for a sustainable food source would be awesome.   :beans:

Well, you could need things like bolt cutters to destroy the razor wire along the fences to gain access to the camp interior but if you were smart you would have people keeping an eye out for bandits both inside and outside of the camp.  Having sandbags and trenches built around the camp could also help protect you if you were being ambushed.  There are many ways that it would provide lots of extra fun and different engagements.  If people really wanted into your camp to take it over or steal your stuff, it could end up being an epic battle.

This may make some of the base builders amongst us shed a tear in memory...

Remember that epic camp you had (we all had one at some point), you know the one. Few really good camo vehicles, good few tents, maybe some wire fence or sandbags for asthetics....your own little sanctuary in the harsh world of Chernarus.....

Now remember when you logged in and there was NOTHING THERE lol, sometimes hundreds of hours work that you know was destroyed in seconds.....iv heard more rage on TS when iv announced that our camp has fallen, than over any act in any computer game.

I really hope they put a lot of focus on bases when they get past the performance issues. We need those moments in SA! :)

It'd be fun to defend, but the point I'm getting at is there isn't a reason for a camp besides storage and defense for that storage.

Are you talking about epoch? The most annoying thing with epoch was when the server just decided to make half ur base disappear. There was no point to really have a base on regular dayz. There was nothing to stop anyone from taking everything besides ur location. Which we all know will be found eventually. I always found it best to have my tents scattered around the whole map. I one is lost then i know i have 5 others to check.

I've always liked the idea of a camp like this...but I never understood the reason for wanting to stay in it. There's a limited amount of food in it, you're pretty much a target, and there isn't much to do when in there. Maybe rocket will add in board games or some shit like that; something that makes players want to be stationary for periods of time. Even sleeping being added would be cause for a camp.

Until then, while I love the idea, there isn't any reason I'd make my own camp besides for the sake of having one.

Its sad i know what show that gif is from...just by tit observation

What is the show

EDIT: I need it for multiple unexplainable reasons.

It depends on what all you can do besides store items there.  Also, many people I'm sure will just like to build camps and enjoy their creations.

Camps for groups of players is they only thing that will advance this game past where it is now. Making loot more rare and shit harder to find without adding a reason to loot is only good if there is a reason to loot things u dont need for yourself. I feel anything you add to encourage ingame trading or anything that counters kos is a big plus for me. Kos is always going to be apart of things. The understanding of when to do it and when not to can be changed by things like camps and storage. I had heard at one point about underground bases or camps. never played the mod but at some point there is going to have to be something greater then individual goals. Or it could just always be what it is now.

Supposedly, we will be getting underground bases to start off with because above ground bases will cause issues.  I would prefer above ground bases though, like in the pic in my OP.  I do agree with you about the game needing more to encourage less KOS and more interaction between players though.  Bases and rarer loot spawns could really be the key to moving in that direction.  Especially, if you have to make every bullet count.

Ugh epoch...blah...nah I mean on vanilla dayz servers. Never liked any of the mod variations, well apart from new maps :)

Honestly of all the camps iv had iv never tried to defend one. I always just conceal it as best I can and the "achievement" is how long it stands for. Iv been tracked back to my camp and sniped as I sat there admiring it lol. But if that happens its camp site blown for me, I abandon it and move on, as its more than likely been trashed. I suppose its something that appeals to some but not others. Making it was the fun for me, placing all the tents just so, making sure all the wire lined up ect ect. Noob reactions to a big camp is always fun aswell, like pick some guy up on coast and take him to the beta site, and watch him go apeshit over all the stuff he had to choose from :)

It also gave me missions. Say I log in and my greedy squadies took all the stanag SD....well that's my mission for the night, try and refill the SD supply at camp (yes so the greedy buggers can take it all again). But that was it, the camp gave me things to do, supplies to replenish, parts to collect if the heli took fire...and many many more :)

It would be cool if you could post up a list of things to do for the day so your group of survivors have some goals to achieve for the day.  Find 20 cans of food, 20 drinks, 20 bandages, etc.

I hope clan camps are made with a believable scope rather than an entire fortress made out of wood constructed by a 15 man team.

The only things that would make sense to me is tents, constructing tree houses, and fortifying existing structures.

Another thing that would be nice is having guard dogs that would bark and alert you if zombies or bandits were nearby your camp.  They don't need to attack and if the camp gets overrun they can just run away to save themselves.

In order to acquire dogs for your camp you would need to find them scavenging for food near towns and lure them with food.  You would then continue to feed them until they trust you and will follow you back to camp.

What say you?
