The KOS world of Dayz

Recommended Posts

As many have posted before me the KOS of days gets pretty old.  I haven't played this game more than 10 hours and the first people I always see are nervous nelly.  I usually wave or say hello and suddenly I look like a delicious meal.  I've encountered 5 people and have been killed 5 times.  I try to give people the benefit of the doubt but I think I've had it up to my neck with people.

Anyways, this game is a lot of fun and encourage those that are thinking of getting it to go ahead and do.  It's an easy game to catch onto.  On another note, where does one go to report bugs, glitches, etc?

Also, anyone that is new or looking for a someone to play with please add me on steam, jenks2616. I usually play at night due to kids.  Enjoy the blood shed dayz community.

I was in elecktro yesterday raiding the school when i heard another player, I look out the window and this poor guy is battling about 8 zombies. I stepped out on the balcony and used my shotgun and magnum to eradicate them. He says thanks, i say no worries... 2 hours later we're still running around together. There are nice people out there but you must ALWAYS have the upper hand before attempting to communicate.

Id be happy to add ya and join you if I see your on, I play late nights myself - I have encountered players about 10-12 times i think, been killed 3 or 4 and after doing the side to side clearly stating my intentions - in fact I had an interesting encounter at the NwAf the other night I walked into the blockhouse/firestation and 2 people had their backs to me ( I could have totally hosed them but I dont roll that way), I put my hands up did the side to side and said hey im friendly, one of em turns around pauses for a couple seconds then unloads on me, sad, but this is how some people are, and without them, as painful as that moment was, the game would not be as good -

Learn how to deal with people in Dayz, it's not happy playtime.

don't let them too close (physically and emotionally), and don't just run out into the open going "HI WANNA BE FRANDS?!".

Last thing, don't fucken expect to hang out with them for a long time if you do get a "friendly" back. The longer you spend with a stranger, the more likely it is they'll turn on you.

Please excuse my rather original comment about Kos in general....I'm gonna compare 2 difrent games, yet i'm only doing it to demonstrate the player psycology behind each game.

Do you know Rust? Rust is a game where Kosing exist over there as well...yet not as much as compared to Dayz.

My opinion is that this is because...

1:The scale of the map is enormous, the large scale open areas make players nervous, thinking that enemy lurks in every corner.Compared to some Rust videos i saw,the forest area is more small and secluded, and give a diferent feel when exploring.

2:Compare the coulors Dayz and Rust have to offer in game.Rust has more vivid coulors, and more cartoonish graphics, which soothe the players.Dayz on the other hand has massive forests and the graphics are so good you feel immersed in the game, yet they take your feeling of safety.

3:Rust charachters can run on 360s with no restrictions.I see the player controls look higly unrealistic yet are highly responsive.

Compared to Dayz the controls are not as fast-responsive and sometime it takes time to learn to move your charachter effective in the wasteland. This also makes players nervous, and also because of the time it takes to equip,or change weapons.

Edit:So my opinion is,that the community is fine, the game itself puts the player in the psycology of thinking that he is on his own,and it constantlly reminds us how small and unprotected we are in the massive Dayz world. It is unforgiving, yet this is the reason why i love it.

Yeah same here buddy. Trying to be a hero will get you kill almost immediately. Now I just avoid any encounter except for those pesky zombies each time I want to loot for supplies in town.

As for the bugs report, at the main page you should see it. It is in between Gallery and Clan recruitment under the name "Bug Reports". You need to register first before you can log a report.

Welcome to DayZ.

Prepare to be gunned down without reason.

Just get in cover. use direct communication while you are. But beware, even if he says I'm friendly be prepared to defend yourself.

This still is a survival game. People don't trust each other during survival.

Welcome to the KOS Deathmatch Permadeath Standalone

Right now it's more beneficial to just KOS everyone you see.  Tons of reasons to do it, none not to.

If you don't KOS, be prepared to eat an axe / bullets in the back by the person you let live.

Until they implement some type of effective Humanity System, KOS is really the only way to play.

Will you shut the fuck up about your shit humanity system...

Sounds like you have a lot to lose by losing KOS with immunity.

I hear a lot about people bambi hunting, but when I have nothing seems to be the time most people dont pay much attention to me.  Strap a gun on your back and youll likely get less friendly greetings, but at least youll have a form of defense...or offense depending on your play style.

No, what I have to lose is the fear and panic of running into another player.  If I can clearly see that he is a 'bandit' then the fear of maybe getting shot goes away, as does most of the fun.  It'll be just like playing Battlefield and I didn't buy DayZ for that experience.   Good guys can do bad things, just as easy as bad guys can do good things.  My play style doesn't require me to be pigeon holed, I'm neither a 'Hero' nor a 'Bandit', simply a player that will do what it takes to survive...

You are already catered for in the mod, if you require a clear sign that a player is bad and must be killed then go play the mod.

At no point in real life do you approach a man and see a warning sign pop up in huge red letters showing killer, stalker, thief.

The point of this game is to find a balance between realism and fun, so far they are doing a pretty damn good job.

Like Mart said "If I can clearly see that he is a 'bandit' then the fear of maybe getting shot goes away, as does most of the fun."

Most of this game is player interaction, never knowing what each interaction will bring is most of the fun and the only thing that keeps anyone on their feet, ruining that experience by letting you know what a player is from a mile of only hurts the game.

You mean gaining KOS with immunity, if the humanity system works anything like in the mod...
