charlie2162009 0 Posted June 24, 2012 Just wanted to say, getting a bit bored with Dayz. Started out playing it, little over a week ago, first didn't know where to go, what to do etc... was lost. Then came the patch where there was no food or water almost anywhere, then it was fixed. Now it just seems like the mod is too repetitive or boring. With a new character after about an hour, maybe not even that long, I already have an Enfield with 5 mags, 1911 with 5 mags, 6 cooked meats, 3 4 drinks, knife, compass, map, binocs, watch, hatchet, more bandages than I can carry (they're everywhere...)I mean I can understand if you can't find a gun you might think the game is repetitive, too hard, boring....But if you know where to look (supermarkt, apts) you have more ammo, supplies than you know what to do with. And what to do? The zombies are no threat, you can kill 20, 30, still have ammo left over... traversing the map is fun but... you can do that in the editor. Killing other players is a little fun but, chances are your stuff is better than theirs and you don't have room for it anyway. Pvp is fun at 300m with the Enfield but... real coop is more fun that banditing...So, if the game is really actually about survival, go kill some goats, go to a forest, make camp, cook meat, find a barn with some drinks... and that's it. Rinse repeat. You could survive forever that way basically. Am I missing something???Not to mention... most of the essential loot is in only a few places anyway. Search Electro supermarkt, church, firehouse, that's most your gear. Or if you spawn near Brezino (northeast spawn city i think) just loot all the apts and supermarkt, and that's everything.Or better yet, loot it, switch to another server, loot it again till you find what you need. Or again and again, or whatever. Then what?Sure you could go ruin some noob's day who has no idea what they're doing on the beach, but I'm not that kind of person, they don't have gear, and it's kinda mean.See what I'm getting at??? Aitloian 11 Posted June 24, 2012 Found a vehicle yet? Found helicopter crash sites? Got NVG or a GPS? How long has your character survived you say you found all that stuff in 3-4 hours but have you had a character survive more then a day or 3 days or 5? Do you have a camp set up any tents with extra gear or food or medical supplies? Have you tried grouping up with people (the game changes dramatically)I've been alive for 5 days now, i've survived some crazy stuff my most recent near death experience is got attacked my several zombies got knocked uncoussious my roommate saved me and when he put me back together I was sick and we ended up finding antiobiotics what an epic adventure. We have a bus and a tractor and still haven't run out of fun things to do yet
slappyham 1 Posted June 24, 2012 Am I missing something???Yes, you really are. It's the journey, it's the atmosphere, it's how intense PVP encounters are.No offence to you charlie but you don't seem very cultured, I could quite easily say 'What's the point in going to an art gallery, you look at paintings and what?! That's it? Am I missing something herpa derp'..

Congrats. Try hitting up Stary sabor or growing a pair of balls and going to the NW airfield for the Tier 3 gear. The game is only boring if you dont keep yourself busy with objectives. Me and my buddy were raiding vybors market to stock up our car with supplies for respawns when we saw another survivor enter the school across the street. Being on Comms we devised a battle plan where i would flank and enter the school from the 2nd floor via latter and he would shoot from the ground floor of the market since the survivor was on the 2nd floor of the school at this point. Then another suvivor his partner entered from the first floor of the school and they rested a bit. They then made their way to the front of the market while i re positioned to be on the 2nd floor balcony to fire in on them while my buddy positioned himself in the back of the market to come in on them when i start firing. as the first survivor went down the middle of the market i opened up fire with my M16 on them and she ran to the back of the market i think the middle aisles protected her and i think she DCed. her partner on the other hand was in a corner crouched poking his head up over the window to see where i was shooting from which turned out to be his biggest mistake as i shot him in the head. Turned out he had a better m16 with laser dot, compass, and a M9 SD :).Its the moments like these that just happen that make the game not boring.
Validuz 0 Posted June 24, 2012 I'm on day 3 now.Got a massive storage of NVG's (found a total of 15 of them on other players and tents. God they got to be pissed!!!) Cars. (4 in total. And before you complain i got a parkinglot. We're 8 friends playing, so we do need them.) And in general. A ****load of gear. We're building a small armycamp, having lots of fun as we stalk the roads hoping for an ambush on an unsuspecting group of people driving a car. Hell. We stalked the NEAF for 4hrs, sitting doing nothing. We're competeing with 3 other serious groups of players, hunting and stalking eachother. So much fun!Sure it gets repetetive, but the excitement that you can get shot at any second, ambushed on the road and robbed of all your hard earned stuff and your stats reset to 0? That's what keeps me going.... Not to mention that heli's arent in the game at the current time and we -really- want one.And Heli crash-sites are super rare so the odds of finding an AS50 TWS is.. VERY low.Pft. I keep having bad luck at the heli crash sites ive found so far with only FN FALs and ammo at them :/
charlie2162009 0 Posted June 24, 2012 Well, true the atmosphere is fun. However, I've been to the edges of the map (southwest, west, north) and in those remote areas there's really nobody there. Except zombies, which spawn next to buildings when you're near them. Also, there is almost no point to searching some points of the map, because there simply isn't good loot there. And talking about exploits, using different servers etc... how intense pvp encounters are...-You don't need the ingame map, just googlesearch dayz map.-On the latest version, sometimes the timeofday for each player doens't match. For example, on the same server your 'nighttime' might be another player's noon on the SAME server.-Disconnecting is more common than people think, you won't go days with one character barely surviving just to die because because a zombie clips through the wall when you just ran out of ammo (but have bandages left)-REAL pvp encounters involve the other player never seeing you. You have the M24, view distance turned way up, stuff like that, they never, sadly, have a chance. On youtube there are vids of sniper shots at 700-800 meters out by the airfield. It's "intense", but the dead player never hears the shot, never knew you were even watching. -The nighttime environment is... superficial. If you turn your brightness, gamma all the way up, you can actually see fairly well. Even on the darkest night. Not to mention many servers are daylight 24/7.Close range encounters are fun when they happen as long as the other person is unarmed, and it's near the beach. If they have any decent gear they'll probably kill you on sight, or even if they don't, they'll probably try to anyway. And if it's at the airfield, they're definitely hostile. And if they have a team on teamspeak, overwatch etc, you're as good as dead. ->*sigh* best to just log out.
slappyham 1 Posted June 24, 2012 It seems to me like you're making the game 'boring' in your own mind because maybe you can't handle how hardcore it is. And not all PVP encounters are on the airfeild :/ or with sniper rifles, you're generalising massively here. If you don't like it, you can just not play it ;)
7-75 callaghan 43 Posted June 24, 2012 The whole 'have you got this piece of l337 equipment' argument is bullshit. If you find DayZ boring, then the mod, and possibly Arma in general, is not for you. The whole point is that you make your own objectives. It seems pointless to quantify enjoyment, but if I were to try anyway, playing with a group of friends is more fun by a factor of at least 10 than playing solo. The base game is a military simulator designed for coop 'play'. So don't expect to have a lot of fun approaching it as an SP game. If I played it alone, I would be bored within minutes. Once you start playing it with friends, it is hands down (not DayZ exclusively but arma in general) the best online gaming experience you can have. And this comes from a very jaded PC gamer. I have exhausted the PC gaming selection, including the very best it has to offer including Mount and Blade, Battlefield 2 (+ mods), Thief series, World of Tanks, CSS, hitman series, various racing games including the refined 'pro' stuff, Hearts of Iron, SC1 and 2, Close Combat series, the list goes on. Arma (starting with the original OFP) is the one game that keeps me coming back, primarily because of mods like ACE and my excellent realism squad.Find a group of guys you enjoy playing with, and every other game will pale in comparison. That is, so long as you appreciate the finer things in gaming.
lunakhod 8 Posted June 24, 2012 Damn, you're a slavedriver. The game is in a barely working state and you're complaining that there isn't enough to keep you busy? The fact that the mod is free isn't enough for you? Talk about first world problems.
charlie2162009 0 Posted June 24, 2012 Lol. It's not bad, it's a good game (mod!) Actually the great game is Arma. That's where the devs really put the hard work. In fact, there have been other ArmaII zombie mods (some even 'better'), the main reason this one is so popular is because you can save your 'character's' progress from server to server. What's going on under the hood, loot spawn chances, the zombie scripting, player spawns, that's all similar to scripts in other mods, if not mostly the same. I like hardcore survival games, played Stalker SoC with Lurk 1.1 to death. THAT is an awesome experience in video games.Um. Lol, the last time I checked PC mods were still free. Omg. It's not like Arma CO is 30$ or anything...
KennyNZ 121 Posted June 24, 2012 Also' date=' there is almost no point to searching some points of the map, because there simply isn't good loot there.[/quote']The items and loot are only there to allow you to survive a little longer or to help acheive or make it harder for someone else something, or make it harder for someone else to achieve something. It's nowhere near the point of the game.Dayz doesn't give you missions or objectives, there are no quests. We don't have levelling or upgrades or experience points. There are no safe areas or tight restrictions on what you can do.When it comes down to what you actually do in game, it's really completely up to you, so if it's becoming boring once you've visited the main places and collected the best stuff, then this type of game probably isn't for you. There's nothing wrong, you either like it or you get bored it of quickly.

No man, I love Arma; I've spent hours with the editor writing scripts, chopper insertions, making custom missions, stuff like that. Arma's fantastic. It's just this mod lol.I highly recommend, if you like mil sims, Jane's Sub Command, Fleet Command(although it's getting old) and R6 Ravenshild (w/ 2.0 Mod). Company of Heroes was great too in its day.Glad PC gaming is still alive. :)
7-75 callaghan 43 Posted June 24, 2012 Ah yes I forgot to mention all of those excellent sims including Longbow 2, the whole DCS series, Falcon 4 and all derivatives etc.Anyone who appreciates Arma should check out all of the games I mentioned.DayZ will get boring so long as you play solo, the whole intrigue is based on the human aspect, plain and simple. kurtino 1 Posted June 25, 2012 LOL some of these replies... "you're making the game boring because you can't handle how hardcore it is""grow a pair of balls and do this and that" "you're complaining about a free mod?"Jesus christ, you can't mention a single thing about this game on this forum unless you're sucking upto it, otherwise you get the 'community' scolding you for it because you don't play exactly how they play or...better yet, 'hardcore'. UbiquitousBadGuy 846 Posted June 25, 2012 I'm not sure why some people think that they should be playing this game 24/7 and then complain when you run out of stuff to do.Well, go play something else. Or challenge yourself in-game. Relog-that's its own challenge right there.I don't like bringing up the Alpha argument on everything (I believe the community now uses it to suppress criticism just as much as to promote it) but this is indeed a very feature-lite game. If you were to take a week or 2 off, who would care? Some people need to realize that you are allowed to not always entertained by this mod. Because it's far from perfect but it's also very dynamic at this stage.
