Custom Arma 2 faces in Dayz?

Recommended Posts

Was clearing out my PC and I stumbled across my old face pack for the MOD. Question is can I use these like I did in A2, or would battle eye have a go at me for editing game files. Also it used to be a server setting to allow them or not, is that still in?

I'm not sure if battle eye has begun detecting modified files or not yet, but when it does I'm sure it would get you

Thats what im worried about, I know it wasnt against the rules in the MOD, it was just wether the server had the file size settings right. Might just leave it for now and see how it goes.

I want my tom Hanks castaway skin back! Then I can run through electro in those sack pants screaming Wiiiillllsooooon! :D

No modding support plus even if you did mod the files and could get it to work only you would see the effects everyone on server would need the same files to see your look...... ( not going to bother going into other reasoning)

Edit re read my post sounded negative sorry wasnt meaning to when mod support comes in then yes i am sure many people will be working on custom looks cloths etc etc the possibilities endless..

How did it work in the mod most servers required a file check to authenticate game add to that visuals are client side eg thats why we have all the texture files models etc in our game so our game can load them.. It should have a client side pc seeing you with custom gear given a default look ???? You sure it wasnt a required mod of the server you were on ????

Nope it works in vanilla arma aswell :D Search some vids if you never done it its really cool. I was running round as jason or snake....same cloaths just changes arms and face textures. Dont ask me how it sends out the data, but it does :)

What ya did was put a new jpg into the player data in documents and rename it face.jpg then on the player profile in game there is 1 custom face option on the faces drop down list ;)

Just some servers would have the file size values set at 0000-0000kb so that you couldnt do it. A lot had it set at something like 0000-5500kb or something like that and it worked great :)

Check that out....they even made a rocket skin :D

LOL i know how to add a custom skin hell i make models and textures have done for years and been playing arma for over 8 years,,,,

I would have bet money that it didnt send out info from your client pc to server then to another pc why you say because if you wanted to be nasty you could code a bug designed to that when you play would infect everyones pc....

I dont doubt you can do it and to you on your pc has the look you made plus it would on anyone elses pc who had the same files named in the same way.. But i am still going to cry BULL on a client side pc recieving external files from another client side pc through a server ( many server use a drop box and will upload files to your game yeah that happens.

But hey i could be wrong ( RV does have a strangely strong client vs server relationship hence why its one of the easiest games to hack...

Lets test shall we i am happy to join you in a game of arma 2 you choose the server and ill join you there with your custom look if i see that custom look ill come here say sorry and eat heaps of humble pie.. If it turns out i am right (and i am damn sure i am ) then you come do the same deal...

Pm sent already know the results have tested before so i am looking forward to this :P

Edit by testing a mean a failed modding attempt where i made a custom skin for my clan and it failed to work due to a naming error.... they had files with textures in it but just because i had changed the name of it in my files ( an after thought) they all saw the look on them but not on me...

Hello there

Custom faces (face.jpg) is enabled/disabled server side by the SA.

The mod pack pbo should only be allowed if its part of the "allowed" mod list/key or the server is set up to allow any mod. If so its a cheaters paradise.

Rgds

Hmm never used a .pbo for any face related stuff just the face.jpg

When you say server side enabled/disabled, does that mean like the mod...some servers will some wont?

Or the main hive server decides?

Sorry for all the questions as well btw, I just really like this feature on A2 and the mod :)

lol sorry i ran out of time for the test bed for me..(test tomorrow or when your ready) pbo the packed file format of a mod it sounds like your just directly changing the main files of the game with an alternate file yes?? if so never a good way to mod something... Yes i love the feature as well i was originally a battlefield 2 player back when you could mod the game (cant mod the new BF games or badcompany etc) the modding was what first brought me to arma.

The possibilities are almost endless with a developer who not only allows but actively supports people modding...

I have hundreds of hours in arma (non steam version it could be alot more than that ) but have probably as many in making models etc for it.

I am one of those guys that when the game is open to modding will jump straight into making custom stuff for the game (and run a private server to host my version which no wont be easy mode 24/7 day 1000 vehicles etc etc.
