Gun invincibility?!

Recommended Posts

Everybody seems to say "Don't feel invincible after you get a gun". I'm thinking "I don't feel invincible, I hate having a gun, I don't know why the hell I pick them up!". I'm sure many of you can relate, though some probably can't. What I'm saying is that, when I get a gun, I feel like players think I'm more of a threat, want to kill me more, and do it, they follow through and kill me. Even when I have a gun with full ammo, I have tons of food, bandages, everything I could possibly need, I feel vulnerable. I don't know why, but I just can't walk around with a gun and still be friendly to people, I'm too scared to help people, afraid they'd axe me when I'm not looking to get my gun. Can anyone agree?

No gun = vulnerable. M4A1 or Mosin Nagant = target. I prefer the B95 or IZH-43, FNX 45 or Magnum. Makes me feel safe while not being a target.

Why exactly do you play this game?

I actually enjoy just talking to players... It is fun to have a gun, but I feel vulnerable after a while. You probably know what I mean?

Having a gun makes you a point of interest for many players. Unfortunately most think that a) you're more dangerous by nature of having a gun, therefore steps taken in self-preservation is bumped up, or b) you have gun = having rare loot, therefore kill and take. This is utter nonsense of course, having a gun doesn't physically change the nature of you're character besides having the gun, but in this game perception is important as it determines whether you get killed on sight or mostly ignored. I've been killed for shooting zombies because someone just happened to be nearby and saw me firing a magnum and acted to neutralize a perceived threat.

I found that just running around with an Axe and a simple sidearm was more beneficial to me then running with a M4 or something like that. Yes I was killed a couple of times and generally people don't really care ... but when I did come across players who were better armed them me and not being bandits or killing on sight, they tended to be more amicable to talking first.

My only conclusion was that I kept my distance from them, never posed a threat, and didn't do anything suspicious.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying that this is why I stayed alive or that this is the reason, chances are I just met the right type of people. But it did become my distinct impression that I tended to look like less of a threat the first time they came across me and this led them to not being so aggressive.

So I don't know ... I continue to play with only an Axe and a sidearm (in the holster) when I can ... and I am still alive ... so we'll see.

i think having a lot of gear (full TTsKo, M4, and stuff) gives a lot of pressure, because everyone wants to kill you.

Great Gear comes with great pressure.

Well if you run around like a headless chicken, yes it will come with a lot of pressure. If you move smart however, 9/10 times you will detect other players before they detect you. I feel more secure having a gun. For me that means that if I do need to confront someone, I have the means to have the upper hand.

Why can't I find more people like you? I always have to work so hard for my kills, what with other people generally toting guns and everything.
