Erikp3 53 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) So Day Z is likely to have a lot of cool features in the future. I've sat back and read a lot of threads about what you guys have been suggesting and I've also been watching a lot of what Rocket's been saying. I'm hoping to get a decent discussion going about some things that may be on their way and some things that are often brought up as subject to change. I'm just going to put my opinions in a 20-item list here. What do you all think? My personal opinions on a few topics:1. Adding sleeping to the game - This is a bad idea. If i'm not playing then I shouldn't use up server resources. 2. Base Building - This sounds really solid so far. It would be somewhat disappointing if my base was only logged via specific servers though. 3. Getting knocked unconscious - I honestly really like the way this works right now. 4. Humanity Systems - In real life I can't tell whose a good guy or bad guy. You can say people can have a gut feeling but even then the way a humanity system would work would need to be fairly complex. How do you determine if a person had to kill for self defense or not? If there was some way to tell who was good/bad I'd want it to be a very slight change that could be overlooked if you weren't looking for it. Like a facial expression or a slight change in coloration of things or something. If your character scowled it would give bandits more reason to wear masks which could add an interesting dynamic. 5. Zombies - They walk through walls and are completely non-threatening right now. I want to fear them and I want my bullets not to feel like their wasted if I fire them into them. 6. Stamina Systems - This should not be employed until the game has vehicles and re-spawning loot. If there is a stamina system used then it should be based around carry weight. This would give some incentive to packing light. 7. Making Specific Items Very Rare - I both hate and love this idea. I feel like many people would waste too much time trying to get a specific fabled item. Plus if you were one of the 100 people in the whole world with night vision goggles then everyone would want to kill you for them. 8. Trains - I really want to see someone repair an old train someday. It would be hilarious to see people run over by one. 9. Melee Combat - Needs some work but its definitely on the way there. 10. Ranged Combat - Most weapons need a bit more polishing in the way they work and feel but so far this is my favorite part of the game play. It's very satisfying to shoot zombies. 11. Anonymity - This needs to stay a part of the game. If you're not told their name then you don't know it. That's how it should be. 12. Rewards For Surviving A Long Time - Beards. We need to grow beards. 13. Skills - This is a touchy subject for me at least. You should get minutely better at things as you do them. But this should be done subtlety and only change things like speeds or percentages. Ex: the more you reload the faster at reloading you get. Very slowly until its about half the time it would take usually, Then it just stops improving. 14. Suicide - Yes. This could be really hilariously used as well as provide a dramatic element for those RP-ers our there. There should be something about your body that makes it obvious that that is how you died. 15. Vehicles - Please let there be lots of broken ones and a few working ones. Then certain factories can spawn parts and the broken ones can be repaired and used for a while. 16. Sound Design - This seems to be going in the right direction, but obviously still needs work. I feel like music should be added to the game but it needs to stay easy to turn off. 17. Certain Settings Being Unchangeable - Also a touchy subject. While it may be unfair to weaker computers I do feel that certain settings like shadows and grass amounts should be the same across the board. There's little to no point in trying to be stealthy without that. 18. Crowbars/Axes To Open Doors - This sounds really cool. It should make a different amount of noise depending on what is used to open them and what kind of door it is. Car doors should be noisy almost always and if you have to use an axe to chop down a door it should be pretty loud. 19. Hunting - This sounds like a good idea so far. But it wouldn't make sense to implement before cooking. 20. Weather - I really hope this affects characters physically. This should be made server-side for sure and would give players a reason to get rain resistant or warm clothing. Of course the game needs a lot of work but I thought this list was a good starting point for discussion. I feel like this game needs to make player interaction close to life-like. No obvious ways to tell whose who and whatnot. Immersion is really important to me. If there were to be an easier to play less immersive version of the game then I would want it to be an optional version that I didn't have to play on. I feel like this game needs to be rather difficult to play and fairly in depth. If I wanted to play a regular FPS game I would. I play Day Z because it's unlike any game I've ever encountered before. I get a real sense of adventure when i'm out and about. Every interaction with people makes my heart race a bit. I'm just so in love with this game and I really don't want to see people try and transform it into the same generic crap that every other game out there equates to. P.S. The log out timers really bug me still. They help with combat logging mildly I think. That's nice and all. But they're not a full-proof fix and I really hope the timers get the attention they need to stop being so bothersome to the average player. They don't really do anything to stop server hoppers. Sometimes I register pings weird and a server I think will be fine will have a really bad connection to me and I'll need to switch a few times until I find one that's less trouble. That takes about 3x as long to do now with the new timers. Edited February 10, 2014 by Erikp3
Wheunis 228 Posted February 10, 2014 Because I'm bored and fail at falling asleep... 1. Adding sleeping to the game - Agree, REALLY BAD idea.2. Base Building - Not sure how i feel about this yet, but leaning towards a big no. I would be all for a system where we might be able to "temporarily occupy" a building (same as barricading in Dead Frontier). I especially think this could work well with buildings that we cannot currently enter into (factories instantly comes to mind).3. Getting knocked unconscious - Meh. I think it might need to take 2 headshots to knock someone out, but whatever.4. Humanity Systems - Hell no. Nothing else to add. just plain, HELL NO!5. Zombies - Annoying at best. Fix the wallglitching zombies, then make more of em. Also would like to see a little variety on zombies based on their own "health/condition". Zombies with crooked legs can only shamble. Zombies with no arms that can only bite. Zombies with no legs that crawl/sneak through the grass at ya, etc.6. Stamina Systems - Love it. Based on weight AND player condition, please. Fitness would also be nice to have.7. Making Specific Items Very Rare - Hmmm... SOME items, yes. But i gotta say, make the LRS less rare pls. Without it the Mosin is near useless compared to SKS. While were on this, LRS shouldn't be rare until PU/Acog/etc work PROPERLY. Both are capable of zooming 3.5x/4x respectively, but currently only zooms 1x. Those need to be fixed before anything goes super rare.8. Trains - Unsure how i feel about this. Post apocalyptic and all... I'm not comfortable with this sort of idea.9. Melee Combat - Melee is a but sketchy atm, but at least functional. Would like to see throwable weapons (darts, knives, etc)10. Ranged Combat - Not overly happy with guns atm. A little bland and even pristine weapons shoot as if a 3 year old is operating them... Maybe tie in character condition into weapon proficiency?11. Anonymity - NO NAMEPLATES! EVER!12. Rewards For Surviving A Long Time - Naw. Maybe after retail release?13. Skills - Agree to some extent about this. Slots into character fitness/stamina as well. With funskill improving with use, it would give me a GOOD REASON to shoot at some zombies (improving skill).14. Suicide - It's coming pretty soon from something i recently read. Not bothered by it, but i can see it's usefulness.15. Vehicles - NO. Flatout. NO. HELL NO EVEN!!! --- Lemme just say this. You can run from South Coast to NWAF in exactly 16 minutes. It feels longer, but its not. Have timed it. Vehicles would make this map feel no larger than the average CoD/BF map... MAYBE i will agree to mountain bicycles... MAYBE...16. Sound Design - Not too bothered, but music feels out of place. The loneliness, the quiet, the solitude... it FEELS right in the game's setting (post-apoc)17. Certain Settings Being Unchangeable - Yeah. Shadows, clouds, etc... ALWAYS ON, you can adjust the quality, but NOT DISABLE them. Agreed. A lot can also be said about night-time gamma/brightness settings...18. Crowbars/Axes To Open Doors - Would be mandatory if basebuilding goes the way I would like it, especially if barricading becomes a thing.19. Hunting - Agreed. Forget hunting until cooking actually works. I can't wait to cook my rice!!!20. Weather - Dunno. Maybe. If done right, yes. I would also like to see actual raincoats that go OVER YOUR CLOTHES to protect you from rain. Characters without a raincoat should wanna hide indoors while raining. Rain makes you cold, sick, whatever. Ruins certain items. Etc. Logging out while wet = hypothermia death. Logging out injured/bleeding = gangreen/infection/bloodloss death. Yeah well... my 2cents anyway.

DemonGroover 8836 Posted February 10, 2014 If they bring in trains they should give us the option to tie someone to the railway tracks.
Delarado 5 Posted February 10, 2014 Trains and beards massively have my +1 Having a beard although completely pointless would make for some in-game hilarity, as well as being pretty frickin cool. Could you imagine running into gandalf with an M4?! :)
w00kie 42 Posted February 10, 2014 Nicely said dear old chap! If they bring in trains they should give us the option to tie someone to the railway tracks. +1 This would be funny to watch. Would be good to use the Ropes/Handcuffs etc.
DerDuderich 149 Posted February 10, 2014 I'd like to have some kind of Archievement system as soon as the major bugs are fixed. - Kill 10/100/1000 Zombies with one char- Walk 10/100/250km with one char- Find every gun available in game- Rescue an unconscious player- Fix 20 broken legs- Equip a gas mask- Visit all airports- Collect all 150 books ...and so on. It could give players a lot to do and would also prevent the KoS mentality a little bit. 21. Archievements

It's not like you die in RL from getting wet once. You have to be sick for a long time before that to die from it. Beards would be really cool, though. doctorbadsign 645 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) but you don't have to support the KoS play style which is clearly not the sense of the game...if you want KoS play a shooter not a survival game Why are there guns in the game then? Why does it allow you to shoot other people? Don't get me wrong, personally I do not shoot on sight as a general rule, but to say that it is not a part of the game or not meant to be in the game is fucking ridiculous. What you are doing is trying to conflate 'what I want the game to be about' with 'what the game is about'. Really the game is what you want it to be, and if that means shooting some dimwit in the face whilst they shout 'friendly' as though it is some magic word, then so be it. If you want it to be about helping other people or what have you then so be it. DayZ is a sandbox, and by definition its a game that you can play how you want. slider (DayZ) 26 Posted February 10, 2014 KoS certainly is part of a survial game. More than zombies it shows how society breaks apart if there are no rules and regulations are around. If you don't want to be killed by other players, find other (new) ways to survive. Find a group or try to stay alive by yourself in the woods...
louist 163 Posted February 10, 2014 but you don't have to support the KoS play style which is clearly not the sense of the game...if you want KoS play a shooter not a survival gameWho says KoS isn't the "sense" of the game?It has always been a major part of the mod, and one which Rocket never tried to remove or limit. Hell, his inclusion of .50 sniper rifles wasn't aimed at killing zombies. Just because you disagree with a particular play style doesn't mean it isn't a massive part of the game, and even an expected part of the game.
Erikp3 53 Posted February 11, 2014 I honestly think that PvP in general is a major part of the game, Right now there isn't much to do other than that. When there is more to run around and accomplish people will likely opt in for teamwork or peaceful interactions. But if this game wasn't so aggressive there wouldn't be that fear element when talking to people and it just wouldn't be as fun. There needs to be a chance that every time you talk to someone it could be a fight. KOS may not be nice but it keeps you on your toes and without it this game would be more of a walking and slowly dying simulator than a fun experience.
