Gnifty 4 Posted February 7, 2014 Hello everyone, I want to share an idea I´ve read elsewhere but couldn´t find here, so if it was already dismissed, forgive my ignorance. I know that Nametags are frowned upon and I know why. I even agree that it makes more sense that you don´t know who the guy across the yard is. BUT. You know what your friends look like, right? To reflect that, I suggest a form of nametag that is kind of realistic, given the customization-options of DayZ. You cannot tell one player from another simply by looks since faces are the same and clothing, while diverse is kind of same-ish too. Also, talking out loud is not always an option, same goes for the proximity-chat, when you have to maintain "radio-silence". The Idea: A nametag that only shows up either in close proximity or if the player in question turns towards you (so you see his face). The important thing is that both people have to agree on showing the tag, so both know what they´re getting into. The thought behind this is simply that in reality you have no problems identifying who you know and who you don´t. In the game, this is not possible without direct communication, there is no passive system like in real life that can do that for you. I personally like, where this idea is going, I think there should be SOME way of telling people apart.
skyline-gtr 130 Posted February 7, 2014 Perhaps clothing/gear would be a realistic way to identify people. Also an improved character creation system might help too. With a name tag system, is not realistic because in real life, if you are required to shoot someone in a crowd, your brain is required to process this information.Having your group of buddies all with nametags, removes this element. Element47 2481 Posted February 7, 2014 BUT. You know what your friends look like, right? i will repeat my argument from the other thread: three are strangers, one is your friend. tell me which one is your friend
Gnifty 4 Posted February 7, 2014 Second on the right is my friend. How did I know? I can see it in the way my friend moves, plus I can factor in the slight differences in height and posture, plus the decal on the back of his helmet. How many of these things are implementable in DayZ? The decal, that´s it.
Snipass 21 Posted February 7, 2014 I know it because this is my friend, so I know his morphology (size and weight), I know his equipment because we spent a lot of time together: the badge on his helmet, the antenna of the radio long range exceeding his back, he stucks the label on the cartridge from his gas mask, the old worn magazine that drags around with him, his rotten walkie talkie set on the right strap of his Chest Rig, pouchs he put on the same Chest, the paracord on his left leg, etc... Don't say that impossible to reconize a friend in a group like this, because in real life all soldier customise his equipment and this fact does we can find your friend. But actually in DayZ you can't customize your stuff like in reality so we will have to find a way to compensate for this. (Sorry for mistakes, my dog speacks a better english that me...) sausagekingofchicago 4711 Posted February 7, 2014 Not shooting friendlies is a skill. The only nametags I support:

skyline-gtr 130 Posted February 7, 2014 While a nice analogy NoCheats, that is a national army and at a guess I would say that in most situations their enemy is from another country and would look different to a degree. I love that vid tho!
