doublebrain 255 Posted February 6, 2014 I hadnt played DayZ for a few weeks and risked another run after the latest update came up. I was looking at the server list and saw a "Hardcore" server, I never played on one before.First of all I have to say that playing on hardcore is much more fun in my opinion because you feel much more restricted with first person only. Also loot seems to be more rare than on regular servers so it takes some time to get the good stuff. But the thing that realy surprised me was that the people on the hardcore servers are quite friendly! I played about 5 hours in the last 2 days and I had 6 (and a half) encounters with other players. The first guy most likley spawned a few minutes ago just like me. I walked out of the town, he was going to run into it. He asked me if there was any loot left (which I denied). After going a little inland I decided to go back to the east coast and loot the towns there (Solnichniy, Berezino, Svetlojarsk). In Sol I first met some newspawn who asked me if I knew if there was a well around. Then I ran into a guy who was at about the same "gear-level" as me. He asked me for food and I gave him some cans for a can opener and an empty bottle. While we made our deal 2 good geared (= guns) players showed up. They were careful first but not hostile and asked if everything was alright. They wanted my UK Vest and offered me a medkit and a map for it. I never need too much inventory space so I accepted. In Berezino Ive met a very friendly guy, he helped me after I ran into a bunch of zombies with "only" an axe. We looted Berezino together and seperated after that. There was a guy at the shipwreck, he told me there was still stuff all over the ship and it would be worth to take a look. And only about an hour ago a guy ran into me in Svetlojarsk. I saw his head for like 0,5 seconds and all he said was a quick "hi" and then he ran trough the backdoor. When I looked for him he was gone. So yea... at least 5 hours of playing and noone even tried to shoot me down.4 of 6 1/2 players had guns but didnt shot me2 wanted to trade1 saved me And then I see people complaining about KoS all the time... here might be the solution: play on hardcore servers! Maybe there are people who can approve this? Anyone who also feels like the hardcore players are realy the softies in DayZ? :P
djporternz 644 Posted February 6, 2014 Welcome to my world. I think it is a reflection of the type of players who like this style of play. When there is nothing to exploit to give one player an unfair advantage over another, you can afford to be quietly optimistic that an encounter will not end in bloodshed. Not that you can afford to become complacent, though!

DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted February 6, 2014 I have had mixed experiences with other players on hardcore servers, some have been legitimately friendly, some have been hostile (but not KoS) and some have tried to kill me on sight. That, however, is an improvement over my experiences on regular servers where 100% of players I have encountered tried to kill me on sight.
BadAsh (DayZ) 1513 Posted February 6, 2014 I have noticed a considerable lack of newspawn coast snipers on the hardcore servers as well. I don't think the hardcore servers attract more friendly players, I just think that they scare away more of the noobish sniper-and-murder-everyone-we-see players, because they can't watch their backs or spot targets in the relative safety of the 3PP in this mode.
Rudette 435 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) It's the prefix "hard" that scares them!I have met more friendly people on hardcore. That said.. not all encounters have been friendly.I was sniped at (unsuccessfully) in Cherno. To be expected!Leaving town, some guy with M4 cam spraying at me out of the bushes....Ambushing me (Unsuccessfully) So doubled back, and started stalking him. Predictable as he was, he knelt down in a bush some 20 minutes later. >.> I snuck up an axed him to death and scattered his loot in the road for the people he was likely going to ambush.I will say...sneaking up on people when they are locked to first person is invigorating, far more than using those 3rd person shenanigans. libertine 351 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) My experience with 1st servers has been constant KOS. One time I ran all the way to the apts above Cherno from the NE coast for the third time as there was no loot in Electro or small towns on my way and i kept starving to death, this time i had just recovered from about starving to death, no backpack, no weapons, looked out window, saw a guy going up a hill, watched him going up to something, saw flash near that something, i die, pissed. The guy had to know i just ran my fucking ass off to get their since i was a new spawn with no weapons. Edited February 6, 2014 by Thane
mercules 1290 Posted February 6, 2014 It isn't all friendly but it is decidedly more friendly than the non-Hardcore. I've run into several people and done the, "Friendly... I'm just passing through." and we have gone our separate ways. I've been too wary to trade. I did run into one guy who did NOT respond to me and so I flipped around and put buildings between us. I think I missed his friend while glancing over my shoulder to see if he was still behind me because I heard shots and got the "You are Dead" screen. They wouldn't even talk to me while they were drinking my soda and eating my rice not to mention reloading from my ammo. I could hear it all. If I had had a gun to go with all that ammo, I might not have tried to run for it. :)
deepfried 95 Posted February 6, 2014 I play exclusively on 3pp:off servers, which now means "hardcore" servers, and I can say a cautious "maybe" to the average denizen being more friendly, i've certainly had more people talk first rather than shoot first, and there seems to be less spawn snipers. That said I mostly koS so, I tend to self select for more hostile encounters.
odin_lowe 3686 Posted February 6, 2014 I've been playing mostly on Katastrophe/Katabasis' hardcore server and met a lot of friendly players. That said, there are groups there that are hostile. But I have to say that I had a much better experience n hardcore servers. (even during the experimental test, I use the hardcore servers and had a great experience) Firefights are much more enjoyable also! B)
Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) Others in my (big) group say there's more friendly people (or encounters) on HC servers. On average, anyway. Edited February 6, 2014 by Combine
TEST_SUBJECT_83 465 Posted February 6, 2014 You can't just assume ANYONE is friendly, but in general, I do agree that Hardcore servers do have a better percentage of "friendly" players.
Martmital 436 Posted February 6, 2014 I can tell no difference really.
Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted February 7, 2014 It's because they can't 3rd person exploit you through windows, over walls or around corners so less kos and more caution
Esolu 320 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) Not everyone is friendly. The only difference is that you will have more up-close encounters than getting shot on sight, and some of those encounters turn sour. Real 'Resevoir Dogs' type stuff. It's great!Hardcore is the only way to go!But be warned!! The further you go and the longer you play, the less you will want to play on 3PP. Until eventually, 3PP will be that daily chore and good deed you do for friends and family that want to play with you. You have to ease them in to hardcore later on. shael6636 10 Posted February 7, 2014 Personally I have found the hardcores servers to be more friendly than the Regular servers This doesnt mean I havent been shot at and killed twice (Both times at airfields so its expected). In the cities / towns i have bumped into several players who have been nice enough not to attack but I still try to avoid other players as its safer. On occasions I have even worked with other players and not been killed its rather refreshing

weedmasta 784 Posted February 7, 2014 Hardcore players are not softies on the contrary they prefer a challenge and more immersion imo, hence why they play on hardcore servers and why there is less KOS on hardcore servers (i.e. KOS'ing is not a challenge)
Mullucka 34 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) Yeah I recently started playing hardcore, have encountered 2 people so far. First encounter in Berenzino he had an axe and asked me if I had any weapons I could give him, I was new spawn so just said no and ran away. Second was at NE airfield, he was geared and I ran into a building with my axe out, he was wearing a burlap sack on his head but said he could see fine (glitch?) I asked him if there were any guns at the airfield and he told me no he took the only one, then he ran off. If this was regular the guy with the axe would have chased me trying to chop me up and the gunned player would have shot me on sight. I think that there is definitely a different type of player on hardcore. Edit: Got KOS at NW Airfield in the firestation. lol Edited February 7, 2014 by Mullucka
blissfulkunt 196 Posted February 7, 2014 Very first thing that happened to me on a Hardcore server was someone told me they were friendly then shot me in the back moments later... HOWEVER the overall experience and thrill factor on Hardcore server's is just better. Even have a group of 4 I run with now =)
djporternz 644 Posted February 7, 2014 Just an observation, but if you want to meet truly friendly players, join a fully looted Experimental server some time. Nothing mush to do except talk and wait for the server to reset :)
