My first firefight...

Recommended Posts

So today after 4 days of playing the game and several deaths from KOS bandits i finally got around to being pretty well geared with an M4 plus a revolver and decided to take that opportunity to do some good in the DayZ world. Logged in to a random medium populated server with a friend (who also just recently started playing) and gave him the revolver and some ammo so we would both be decently armed.

The first player we came across was some fresh spawn that only had a crowbar and instantly bolted and ran for the forest when we tried to greet him using voice chat. After that we decided to try our luck in Berezino and saw someone running around the lumber mill area. My friend went to provide cover in nearby bushes and i tried to make contact over the walls with no luck.

Moments later i came under fire from an unknown direction and since my friend did not see the shooter either i decided the best course of action would be to run inside and hide among the containers to get my brearings and identify the threat. At this point my blood was really pumping and it was hard to concentrate since this was the first time ive been shot at when i also had a chance to shoot back so i was pretty excited. My buddy was also running half on excitement and half on panic so at first most of his help was coming in the form of  "omg i think i hear/see something" but shortly after he really came trough when he informed me that there was someone armed with a rifle sneaking up on my flank, so i got up and ran around the corner guns blazing.

Voice chat finally flared: "please stop shooting! please dont kill me!" Doubt came over me and after running on instinct and adrenaline for several minutes i finally remembered my original plan to try to communicate instead of killing on sight, so i stopped firing but still held my gun on him since i still was not sure if he was the one taking shots at me minutes ago. He asked me if he could bandage and i told him that he could. At this point i was feeling really bad thinking i just randomly started shooting on an innocent passer by so i told him i was sorry but then he started acting kind of strange asking me if i was alone and if i need anything, and even after i told him i was fine on food he insisted he would drop some on the ground for me.

I was still pointing my rifle right at him and told him he should leave (since i felt a trap coming but i couldnt be sure) and just when he turned around *BAM*, someone sniped him literary 5m away from me (thinking back on it i reckon the guy probably thinks i shot him, so if you are reading this please know it was not me). So yet again we were faced with an unknown shooter and yet again i bolted inside and took cover behind the wall but then my buddy also came under fire outside, so i manned up and ran out again. My buddy got a couple shots off but was killed before i got close enough to help. When i finally arrived there were 2 gunmen and i was on their flank, so i stopped, aimed my M4 and killed one outright while only wounding the other before he got behind cover. We played cat and mouse where i had the upper hand since he was bleeding so time was on my side and after a minute or so i finally got a clear shot off and killed him.

So now theres 2 well armed dead bodies around, but i remembered my training (aka reading the newb DayZ guides) and decided to check around for more bandits before trying to loot them. After a couple minutes i was somewhat sure there was no immediate danger so i went to loot but their bodies had already disappeared (i thought they should have remained for at least 10minutes?). At least my buddies body was still there, only some unarmed fresh spawn decided to try to loot him just as i got near, so i pointed my gun at him and asked him politely to back away and then *BAM* he falls over dead as well (i swear someone looking down a long range mosin scope decided to make it look like i was killing people on sight lol). I decided that ive had enough action for one evening and that the pistol on my buddies corpse was not worth getting shot for, so i chose a direction and ran for cover and didnt stop running till i met up with my buddies fresh character a kilometer down the coast.

All in all it was good fun and i came out with shakes from the adrenaline buzz. I just wish my buddy had gotten some more good action as well.

Way better than my first experience! At least you shot a couple baddies. All I managed was to shoot a guy who threatened me with his crowbar.

The bodies disappeared because they combat logged. I sincerely hate combat loggers like them. They shoot at you if they have the upper hand, and have no problem with looting you. But the second they lose their advantage, they log out. I was almost killed by a combat logger back in the mod. He shot at me with a Winchester, so I hid behind a house. I shot him twice in the leg with my revolver, and he combat logs. 5 minutes later, he's behind me. He ghosted in by abusing the public hive mechanics. So, as he logs in, I duck behind a wall and log out. Eventually, I log back in, and kill him as he's patrolling for me, I pop him in the head. I then logged out, for good that time. When I log back in 2 hours later out of boredom, he is raging at me over the sidechat because "I am a combat logging bastard", when I had proof he logged, but not vice versa.

Combat loggers are just general pussies.

Sounds like a great first experience as you didn't die... The guy was definitely screwing with you, sounds like an experienced asshole, making it look like you were killing people, but in saying that eh left you live. That was nice.
