kragz 156 Posted February 5, 2014 Yes yes it's alphur, but i was wondering how people spend their time playing this game for anything more than 10 hours. 40 player servers mean you rarely meet anybody other than new spawns at the coast or server hoppers at the military bases and there seems nothing to do other than collect beans. While I like the improved FPS i get on SA, I decided to go back to the MOD and forgot how much fun it is. Combat is so much more satisfying - guns feel much more useful - and I actually feel like I'm at risk running around the woods far away from the coast. TedZ 424 Posted February 5, 2014 Thats your opinion, meanwhile i love the mod, for the benefit of more items, guns, cars but i like SA more because of the updated graphics and less people hacking, I've seen alot of hackers in Mod

Karmaterror 982 Posted February 5, 2014 I did the same. I drop into the SA a lot but get bored very quickly. The mod just offers.....well.....more at the moment. Its got basebuilding, vehicles, loads more guns and loot in general. Dont get me wrong...i love the SA and i know at some point it will surpass the mod in every way, the food drink system already makes the mod's feel simple and old. But for now il be spending most of my play time on the mod, until the SA gets more.....beef :)

It's true, but graphics tend to be rather arbitrary in gameplay experience for me
Qu1n 140 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) I haven't gone back to the MOD, I'm guessing for the same reasons you like it. For me there are too many vehicles / guns in the mod. It has become just another action game rather than survival - I'm VERY happy with the current state of the SA, I do want there to be vehicles, I want there to be guns. But I don't want for them to be something that EVERYONE has. edit - I could stand for either, lowering the spawn rate of primary weapons in the SA, or increasing the variety so finding ammo for your weapon is hard without trading. InflatedLyric 39 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) Never personally played the mod, but I started watching videos on youtube in mid 2012. I really wanted to get it then, but I was broke and trying to ween myself off of gaming. I had just purchased an Xbox in 2011 and was playing Black Ops far too much. Then came Skyrim and it got worse between having the two to choose from. Finally I left my Xbox and moved away (Kentucky to Las Vegas) and when I heard the SA came out, I had to get it. Especially considering, the only thing I had been getting my gaming fix on was my phone. I will say those that got to play the early days of the mod were very lucky and seemed much better back then than the current state of the mod (as far as I have watched it anyway). I stopped watching the videos for the mod quite a while ago; the videos are no longer as interesting IMHO. If the SA can take the good from the mod, without going overboard then it will turn out much better for it. Edit: I only play 5 hours a day, but I spent a couple days recently reading (finished The Red Badge of Courage). It usually takes me 3 to 4 days to feel like I do not absolutely need upgrades. I could still use a pristine LRS and other attachments for that matter. I also play on Hardcore and Regular and usually pick the one that has more for me to find as the one I log in on, at this moment both are fairly well geared, while the Regular is just hoarding. On regular I am carrying a M4, mosin, ammo box, magnum with speed loader, fnx45 with red dot and flashlight, food, 4 or 5 canteens, and a couple of books. I have not played that guy in a week so it could be reset if I tried to log in. I would agree that it can be boring trying to find upgrades when there are not many to find. I get the urge to run around Cherno or Elektro and see what happens sometimes, especially before the Hardcore character was available (this usually happens around the time deciding whether to pick up a 3rd ammo box was a legitimate concern). I spend my time moving from NEAF to NWAF, to Zelenegorsk and going to the other military spawns near these areas. I do not go to Balota. I have only once been to the broken ship and the new town once, both recently. I have a lot to explore and there is plenty I have not become familiar with. I am currently logged out near a ghost town that last time I checked it seemed to not spawn anything despite having buildings that do spawn loot in other parts of Chernarus. I also play at night, you think you know the map pretty well? Playing at night is a test to see if you do. I like to use a flashlight at a minimum, I have even played at night when I had no flashlight. Feeling your way through the dark is the best and it really helps reinforce your understanding of the map. Can I find the opening in this fence with an infected chasing me? Karmaterror 982 Posted February 5, 2014 Thanks for the responses guys, but part of my question was what do you actually spend your time doing in SA since there is relatively so little to do. They all just KOS, day and night lol Id like to hear what people do aswell. I explore or try to interact, but when you have seen most of the new map and carn't find anyone to interact with....running round just gets boring. At least in the MOD i can try to fix a car or build a camp until interaction occurs naturally.
-MadTommy 367 Posted February 5, 2014 Thanks for the responses guys, but part of my question was what do you actually spend your time doing in SA since there is relatively so little to do. Building your character's supplies and interacting with others.. may that be friendly or not. Presently what is really lacking for me; is the number of zombies, their deadliness and their re-spawning. Once these are sorted its be a lot more fun, combine this with crafting & loot balancing.. the future is rosy.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted February 5, 2014 I loved the mod but I can't go back now... I love the lootable clothing and new enterable buildings way too much!
Goll 6 Posted February 5, 2014 Thanks for the responses guys, but part of my question was what do you actually spend your time doing in SA since there is relatively so little to do. The bulk of my time is spent gearing up. Then I either fall off a ladder or stumble across a player. I've learned to keep my distance these days, but as I don't get too much time behind the keyboard on an evening, I enjoy every moment. I did try the mod, but it just feels so weird in comparison, it's like taking a step backwards.
dricht1 28 Posted February 5, 2014 Honestly the loot is what keeps me here instead of the mod. Clothing allows a personal touch, for starters, and finding mods for guns feels much more satisfying than the preset weapons in the mod, even though we don't have as many options here. I'm not sure exactly why. I've spent the past couple weeks gearing up my own character very carefully, and then grabbing some starter gear for friends who are planning to start later this week. Of course, along the way I'm also trying to find bugs to report, since it IS alpha. That last part has certainly kept me busy. Trying to fit two extra sets of basic gear on one character has led to discovering about four different inventory glitches... Though at least one of them was reported previously. jrussell4402 21 Posted February 5, 2014 The player interactions in DayZ SA are limitless, and once you understand that fact, there is no ceiling as to what you can do in DayZ SA. I play with a few buddies a few times a week and if we are not looting or traveling, we are looking for some sort of interaction and always find it. That interaction is either forced or occurs naturally, it can be violent, rewarding, pleasant, short, nerve racking, and even boring with everything mixed in between. The question I have is, what isn't there to do? The answers to that are being resolved with each patch. More zombies, crafting, cooking, hunting, etc. are all going to be added. So for now, seek out interactions, they can be hilarious
PhillyT 554 Posted February 5, 2014 I am looking forward to vehicles. It is very annoying to run everywhere, especially since your character never gets tired. But if he got tired, then the game would be annoying since it takes forever to get anywhere!
CS14 133 Posted February 5, 2014 Although I still play the mod, I find myself playing the standalone more. After playing the standalone it's a bit weird going back to the mod especially with things like more loot-able buildings, more clothing options and combinations, increased performance, etc. When I do get around to playing the mod I find myself playing Epoch more than anything else really. bonesnap 75 Posted February 5, 2014 I came back to the mod for about 30 mins the other day, and the first 25 were pretty fun, the last 5 I saw a huge serverwide/global hack message popup and then I logged immediately.Yep, I can def remember the things I did not miss, lol. ploulaf 89 Posted February 5, 2014 Thanks for the responses guys, but part of my question was what do you actually spend your time doing in SA since there is relatively so little to do.Exploring. I never played the mod and only know the south-west quarter of the map. So now I go east, I just ran into a huge (but empty :( ) castle, and found that awesome. Headed up north and laughed hard at the unmapped land.Spend time testing ballistics of different weapons, I find myself a nice spot and shoot at zombies from different distances to test my weapons capabilities. real meatshield 424 Posted February 5, 2014 I have thought about buying arma2 just so I can try out the mod and see what I missed all along. Got way too may hours in SA already, couldnt hurt to step out and dabble with the mod now, could it...?
dallas 5195 Posted February 5, 2014 The mod and I have agreed to start seeing other people.
Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted February 5, 2014 I went back to the mod a couple of dayz ago just for nostalgia sake. The weather, how long it took me to get somewhere and the zombie count is the biggest things I miss about it. I personally find travelling in the SA way too fast compared to the mod. What I don't miss is being in a town or city and only able to enter 1 or 2 buildings.
