So ya food and hunger is pretty messed up.

Recommended Posts

You die from starvation pretty fast...when in reality it can take days, not too mention how you can die of starvation so fast while hydrated...ya that is brilliant.

Then I was looking at the food intake, eating like 5 cans a beans and a whole box a cereal in one go...makes me "healthy,ya it shouldn't be like that at all.

Food should be needed on occasion and eating a ton in one sitting should mess them up. I could understand if the game day/night cycle wasn't real time...and it wasn't trying to be hardcore realistic....but it is, and the fact that hunger is just bonkers kinda irks the crap out of me.

Oh and the fact that SODA hydrates you....yaaaaaa um...what? It should act more like the dry foods it should give you good energy but decrease your water level.

What about being able to sprint for miles? Or knowing how to operate firearms without any (apparent) formal training? Or being able to fit a whole can of beans into a pocket? Or the existence of "zombies"?

Some things in this game require suspension of disbelief.

Suspend it!

Are you sure you ate 5 cans of beans and a whole cereal box in one sitting? I don't think that is even possible without throwing up (ingame)

Soda should be a 'dry' food? What planet are you on! Soda is sugar and WATER! If you want to bitch about it then why does it have ANY 'food' content.

TBH, managing food and water in game was one of the simpler things for me to get my head around. If you take into consideration that you are almost dead when you spawn in at the coast, ofc you are going to die of thirst/starvation almost immediately! Realistic? Not likely, but then I'm running around a former soviet state after a Zombie apocalypse, ffs. Realism be damned. If it gets in the way of playing the game, then it needs to be out of the game.

Emphasis on game.

So... you still don't understand food and drink in the game. When you start the game you are literally starving. As in, "I haven't eaten in more than a week and feel weak." starving. You can change that by eating and eating.

In addition you do not understand Real Life good and drink. Soda DOES hydrate you. This myth has got to die someday. Caffeine is a diuretic but it is a very mild one. It makes you urinate, but considering the dose of caffeine you get in those 12oz of fluid you are still hydrating. Now, 12oz of a caffeinated pop is not as hydrating as 12oz of water but it is never, ever, ever, going to dehydrate you. On top of that not all pop in the game has caffeine in it. For example Spite, which is the game world equivalent of Sprite... no caffeine, nothing to dehydrate you, Sugar, CO2, Water.

Oh my god! Yes, you can survive for several weeks without food, but after a couple of days you would start getting some serious side effects. Shaking, shock and many others.

This still doesn't mean it has to be in the game. If it was in the game no one would look for food. People would find a gun and start killing eachother.

People already just do that.

I would expect a thread like this from someone with 10 posts...

Kind of surprised, sly :/

you can survive roughly 3 weeks without food, not a few days.

As the others said, this game is not life simulator but a post-apo, mmo one. So this means, that not only do we encounter things like limitless sprinting or lack of sleeping, but also we dont need a lot of stuff from REAL life. I mean, cmon, this is a game, it is used to entertain us, not to make us going to the supermarket every hour in order to find food. Remember about the alpha status, they are going to improve this and that..

You start the game with a big energy deficit, you're basically starved, malnourished and bordering on dehydration, so you need to eat and drink loads to build you back up tp a "normal state" (healthy) from where you can just maintain your energy levels by eating normally.

Bear in mind a can of beans is about 300 calories, a man's normal calorific intake should be about 2500 calories a day, so thats like 8 cans of beans.  Never mind that running all over chernarus carrying a heavy pack and guns is going to mean you're burning more like 6000 calories than 2500.

No, the food and drink system is pretty good overall, it needs some tweaking sure but there are much bigger issues to address first.  Like a proper weight and fatigue system, and calorie/water burn being relative to exertion.

You can also run a 15km marathon in about 20 minutes or so and I don't see anyone railing about realism for that

It is definitely possible in the current stable build (dunno about the current experimental).

I think you overestimate the difficulty of using a gun in the real world. Our characters arent fresh born babies, even if you havent fired a gun before you know to look down the sights, and brace for recoil. We arent military grade marksmen, but we can operate firearms easily enough...

Ummmm no. Trust me there are people who I know personally who have never fired a gun before and lets just say I NEVER want to be around them again when they have a firearm.

unfortunately that's because they view guns as these evil, dangerous weapons rather than tools to be handled with respect.

you can thank all the anti-gun sissies for that

Thats a mental issue, not an actual difficulty in undertaking the task. Im scared of spiders and dont want to ever touch a tarrantula, and if I ever did I'd probly freak out, doesnt mean its difficult to touch a tarrantula.
