Gamertags/In-game name

Can we please add in the ability to see people names while playing and not just a list of players on the server?  It would be nice to be able to keep tabs of who the bandits are so we know whether we need to shoot them or not.  Right now, there is no repurcusion to killing people and I'm not saying killing other players in DayZ is wrong, I understand that is part of the game.  It would just be nice to be able to see someones name or have a combat log so we all know who has been going on a killing spree so we can avoid them or kill them too.  Also, it is annoying if while trusting a bambi, and trying to help them, they knock you out with a fire axe and take your shit.  Now, yes, it was dumb of me to trust anyone in DayZ, but I should at least be able to know who he is, so I can hunt him down and kill him.  Is what I am asking for too much?  I think it would keep some people in check, for fear that the whole server will hunt them down. Afterall, the price of being a bandit is being an outcast, is it not?

 

Edit: I was thinking of something besides the typical name-tags that would be above everyone's heads

Also your whole basis is so that you can track down bandits and put bounties on them.  Most people will see they have a bounty and just log out and join a different server.  Why face consequences when you can just go to a different server?  <---mentality of 90% of people I've seen.

 

Not to mention people can change their names on the fly soo.....

I agree, maybe a cool lil drivers license which is on you at all times, maybe a tattoo of your name on your leg would be nice as well.

So, you want nametags so those sneaky bandits that are 300m away from you with their line of sight blocked by trees can see where you are because your name popped up when they faced your direction?

I get what your saying, I wouldn't want some giant nameplate over my head in this game too, but some feature, like a combat log that says who killed you. or a general chat where someone can say if there is a killing in what location.  Yes, names are easy to change, but someone who has to change their name constantly so they do not get hunted.....that play style would mean they have to log and change their name a lot, I'm sure after a bit, theyll just say fuck it and stop changing names.  Right now, there isn't much to stop people from server hopping, but that doesnt mean we shouldn't inplement things to keep track of kos'ers and bambi killers, because at some point they'll fix server hopping.  Hell, with the new patch theyll have to wait five minutes to swap a server.  If they want to do that just so they dont get a bounty, then i'd be fine with them having to wait five minutes everytime they realize the server is coming after them

I agree nametags are a bad idea. But I think it would be neat to leave like a kill card on your latest victims. That way when another player runs up on a dead player they can see who killed them by looking at the card.

also, i just want to mention, these ideas wouldn't be to stop banditting completely, bandits are part of the game, some people enjoy being hunted.  I'm just shooting out ideas, so people wouldn't feel like they HAVE to shoot on sight to stay alive and also to make sure there ARE some consequences to being a bandit

lol, its not spawn killing that bugs me, if you die as a freshspawn, it doesn't matter. It's the current status of the community that sucks. The fact that being distrustful and a bandit gets you everything you need when being a bandit should have its perks, but also its consequences.

Why should it have consequences?  This game is suppose to be a survival simulator of sorts, in the real world, being a bandit gets you hunted.  Being a bandit should have consequences because a society cannot function where everyone is a killer and bandit, society would be in chaos and then completely fall apart.

Society has fallen apart; it is in chaos.  I personally think that you are looking for the development of the game to solve a problem that should transcend the game and be addressed by players.

Your right, society has fallen apart, its about surviving a ZOMBIE apocalypse, not anarchy.  Obviously, with the zombie outbreak, there would be chaos and people would kill each other, that should be one of the core structures of the game, but i don't think pure chaos is what should transcend the game.  Zombies should be the primary problem, not other players running around, the structure of the game should force players to work together, not kill the other person so they can get fully geared.  that should be secondary.  But, running around kos'ing everything you see should definitely be an option, but with consequences.  Currently, you're a fool if you play the game the way its supposed to be played, by looting.  The smart thing to do is kill other players, even if they don't have weapons, because they'll probably turn on you the second they do have a weapon, its that philosophy that I think is toxic for the game.  I'm not saying that it's bad if you're the type of person that does that, again you should have the choice to do whatever you want, but there should also be consequences to some of those choices, like everyone becoming aware of who the bandits are.  It should be a structure where you make enemies by becoming that players, not a structure that forces others to be that player just to stay alive.

It is already a mechanic of the game that being a bandit could get you hunted. So im not sure what you are trying to suggest here.

You can't be hunted if you are a bandit right now, because no one knows who the bandits are, that's the whole reason I started the post dude...

It is very likely that we won't see even people names, who plays on the server. And it would be good, imho..

Thanks for your work typing this up, OP!

I still think it would be a good idea not to show a list of players connected... Show if there are 0, less than 20, greater than 20. Both when connecting and when connected.

It adds to the suspense if you THINK you're in an empty server, but you aren't SURE.

In the real world a bandit would get hunted by police.

lol, well if there ever was a zombie apocalypse(in the real world), the police probably wouldn't be around....lol, it's not observing a person I have a problem with, it's the lack of the POSSIBILITY of an identity currently on the server.  From your previous posts, you seem like a very negative person so you're probably not going to get this, or just argue about it, but the post wasn't about throwing a tag on someone so you can identify them the second you see them, it's the fact that there is no possibility of keeping track of the characteristics of the people who play on the server with you.  It would be one thing if every person you meet on the server is new (like someone passing through), but playing with the same people and not being able to identify them is frustrating, especially since character customization is limited and when you die you lose everything you had.  I'm not saying throw a huge fucking tag on people and display all the shit they've done in chat, I'm saying I'd l think there should be SOME way of identifying people on the server....apart from watching them for an hour to study that specific persons character, which could change after they die....
