Is this on the radar?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I want to preface this by saying that I understand gunfights are not the main focus DayZ, that being said you will inevitably encounter a situation in which you are required to use a gun to defend either your own life or the life of your companions. In DayZ, death is final, dying means I lose the entirety of the time I've spent on this version of my character. Keeping yourself alive is your number one priority and versus other players, weapons are more often than not your only means to do so. This is fine by me, I play shooters competitively so I was under the impression I would be at an advantage when it came to these life or death exchanges.

I was wrong.

How many times have I shot someone while clearing a building, only to have them turn, shoot, and fall over dead, seconds after I have stopped firing?

How many times have I seen someone running inside a building doing an animation loop where they run through the side of the building over and over?

How many times have I watched my friends climb stairs by walking through them on ground level and suddenly teleporting to the top?

How many times have I died as a guy with an m4 comes running out of cover and I can't shoot him because he is rubber banding over and over to his position behind cover?

I don't understand it when I see posts from the developers saying that 'the netcode is robust enough to support 200 player servers'. If the 'netcode' can't support a single player reliably I don't care if it can support 200 with the issues it has now.

I don't want more guns, clothes, zombies or base building - I want a combat system that works.

Why? Because none of these things matter so long as I lack the means to reliably defend them

If I'm going to lose everything I have I want it to be because I failed, not because of a glitch in the game.

I understand that the game is in alpha so I try to grin and bear it but it seems like these issues aren't even on the radar. Are these bugs going to be addressed? When I read the interview that was on kotaku the other day it really sounded like the developer thought the networking code was done and all that was left was adding content and polish. Is this the case?

"How many times have I used the Bug Reports section?" Should be the question you should ask yourself perhaps.

Sounds like you have shit internet.

Oh and guess what. IT IS ALPHA, jesus christ people. Don't buy a game that is in Alpha when you DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT ALPHA IS.

Many times, and have supplied links to videos as well.

Idk its like 40 down 5 up

I'm familiar with the term alpha though. Considering I'm actually a developer too... perhaps if you read the entire post you would note that I said something along the lines of I'm not concerned the bugs exist, I'm concerned that they are not being addressed in favor of cosmetic updates. The point of an alpha is to iron out the major bugs in your software. The networking issues would be a major issue. Seems more like a business decision to release more content instead of fixing the fundamentals, which is disappointing to say the least.

If you are a developer, you would know that some issues are more difficult and takes more time do fix, and the ppl that are working of these fixes are not the same ppl that are making new items.

Again, this proves they are working on networking issues....

Right, but they actually said that the networking code was solid and ready to support 200 players in an interview. That makes me think no one is working on it.

I believe the desync issues are when you get the yellow/red chains and your desync jumps up on the network stats. If this actually fixed the people running through walls and rubber banding that would be fantastic.

Great another game developer. Here we go again...

Nope, enterprise software developer :/ although I worked at R* NYC for a year! Not as a dev though...

Stopped reading at "play shooters competitively".

We're all playing it competitively. We invest different amounts of our attention and time, but we are competing, one way or another, with other players.

You can still have internet issues with a decent connection like you have.

Yours is very similar to mine, and I see maybe 3 people skipping around over a week (250 hours so far).

Sure some times I get a laggy server, but if I see its laggy and it does not go away soon, I switch.

Like the guy said, there are many people working on this game, the visuals are easier to slap and add, rather than the guys working on the connection side. Just because they are coming out with new content does not mean they are not working on the other issues.

The desync I have noticed is there a lot even without having a yellow or red chain. You have to check on the server player menu (hit p) and see what your desync is at. Most all servers will lag for the first minute or two when you enter them and your desync says 10,000, but like I said that usually goes away rather fast.

If you notice yourself getting desync often, try another server, if its on most all servers it might be internet issues or it could just be a problem between you and the game, which is something you will probably have to wait for a fix.

All I know is a lot of people I know that play it, usually don't have that much of a problem. I play sniper 90% of the time and rarely ever have hard times getting shots on people due to lag or desync.

My internet connection doesn't have issues with the hundreds of hours I play CS:GO though, so I doubt this the case.

I too play as a sniper most of the time, but this is more of a choice forced on me by the game because of the bugs instead of a conscious decision. It seems like every time I pick up an M4 I end up dying shortly thereafter by some variation of the aforementioned issues.

I've tried to start reporting these bugs. They are difficult because the player that you see "glitching" doesn't see anything out of the ordinary, so lone wolf players will never know anything is wrong.

I realized yesterday that when switching to the .45 my player appears stuck in a weapon changing loop to nearby players.

I reported it here, please feel free to upvote and leave comments.

Though these bugs seem elusive, there is a reason that they are happening. Placing them all under the same umbrella of "player / zed glitch through wall ugh!!" does nothing to help development. So try to take note of every thing that is going on with both characters in the scene and the scene itself and make your bug report as detailed as possible.

Thanks!
