hawke84 7 Posted February 3, 2014 So after getting killed a few times i managed to get a mosin and make my way to balota airbase, im hugging the side and see someone, ask if they are friendly which is met with fire so i return fire with my new mosin get a leg hit in. The guy then runs to the middle of a field, looks at me and logs off - in the middle of nowhere, no cover etc! ok random, so i take cover near a building wall watching where i saw him log out figuring he is trying to get the best of me, few mins past and nothing then a shot hit the wall right by my head from the forest behind me... crap he must have had a friend!! i run and take new cover, new mosin with no scope so i crawl my way to the airtower and watch over the field from cover... 5 mins and nothing, i know hes there. few more mins and its the guy who combat logged!! he server hopped to flank me and rejoined to take me out!! seriously!!! how do you play against people like that? i know that the new patch will help but that went on for 10 mins and a 30 second timer wont help poor play like that :( Really cant believe people play like that! Has anyone else had this?
Geckofrog7 1168 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Wow lol. That's pretty cheep. You have my condolences. I guess if you see someone combat log, join a different server yourself?Unless they're stalking you. :( Edited February 3, 2014 by Geckofrog7
eleventhavenue 204 Posted February 3, 2014 Going to be fixed on wednesday.Yes, it's really common right now, but soon, someone other than you and me will be despairing...
drayson 158 Posted February 3, 2014 This has been an issue since day one of the dayz mod. Thus the woes of a server hive. Looking forward to private hives :P
Play Pretend 6 Posted February 3, 2014 Yeah this whole GHOSTING thing is a real problem.... I am not sure how to alleviate the issue.
weedmasta 784 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Change server or leave the area simple as that. Also why did you insist on staying at the airfield after getting shot for the second time? Either way, with Wednesday patch this problem will be pretty much eliminated. jtec 2 Posted February 3, 2014 He will also get a timer entering the same server. So hopefully if you didnt kill him when he sits down for 30 secs, you will move position and kill him when he ghosts to his new position.
drayson 158 Posted February 3, 2014 What have you seen that says it's going to be fixed? There is going to be a log out timer for your player to chill in game for 20-30 seconds, but that isn't going to stop most people from ghosting like this. Just means they get to cover first and it takes an extra 30 seconds. Most people hang around an area a lot longer than that so plenty of time to ghost flank. dallas 5195 Posted February 3, 2014 If you see someone combat logging, you need to change position fast or back into a corner you can control. hopefully we'll see efforts to curb this cowardly behavior soonTM
cels 43 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) You wouldve probably broke his leg if the patch was in... Im pretty sure that was in the notes.. Gunshots and some melee may cause fractures..To add... This is why I think that server hopping should as well on top of the concept being implemented, put you in a random spot anywhere on the map if you change servers... Do it too many times, you become a fresh spawn. As much as i dont mind the 30 seconds before logging out concept... If someone is trying to kill you from inside a building, you pretty much have to have it in mind that everytime they stop shooting, they could be starting their 30 seconds to log out that you have to rush their position instead of being strategic about it. Pretty much putting you at the short end of the stick. Edited February 3, 2014 by cels

Has anyone else had this?Dont worry buddy there will soon be a 5 minute timer slapped on people who do this. Its called ghosting, now 30 seconds is not a lot but that timer is actually how long you stay in the game for after you log out but what has been discussed in a lot less detail is the 5 minute timer if you swap server too quickly and other stuff. Imagine if that man had to wait five or maybe 10 minutes, (joining another server and then joining yours again) I am pretty sure that will be sufficient enough for you and will make most of these kind of shitty things not worth doing in the future and i cant wait. :P
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted February 3, 2014 Ghosting is lame, but the fact is you played poorly. As soon as you saw the guy log you should have moved.

drayson 158 Posted February 3, 2014 I don't see how you guys think a 5 minute log in delay is going to solve ghosting. Even in a normal engagement people can wait upwards of 15 minutes for someone to make a move.
doctorwhy 157 Posted February 3, 2014 I'm seeing less value in any of the airbases.I'm usually struttin' a mosin and a handful of ammo from towns near or on the way to an airbase. The risk vs reward is rather low from my point of view. I loves me my Mosin.Woo hoo you get an M4 which in my humble opinion sucks. I'm staying far away from the deathtraps pre and post patch.in 100+ hours of playing I have never come across any M4 ammo outside of the base. It may exist but it's too far and few between to risk death from these types of players.

Geckofrog7 1168 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) I loves me my Mosin.Agreed, Mosin is much moar my kinda gun.M4a1 is fantastic against zombies, though. Edited February 3, 2014 by Geckofrog7
doctorwhy 157 Posted February 3, 2014 Military spawns are not just at the airbases fyi. I guess this helps drive the point home that other than a fire fight and possible death the risk vs reward is still rather low.
Mack674 76 Posted February 3, 2014 Whenever someone does this to me I move a good distance, maybe to a vantage point and wait. That or just book it, not worth your time. I carry a mosin though so I prefer to fight at distance.
InvisiMan2013 229 Posted February 3, 2014 Since this game is locked to our steam accounts, wouldn't it be great if cheaters get a permanent ban requiring a repurchase on a different steam account if they want to play again? Only real consequences can stop cheaters - implementing a system to catch and report them is a different story...
glowfow@hotmail.com 55 Posted February 3, 2014 Implement a queue system for servers and have your character bound to the server (perhaps only do this if and when they reach the goal of 150ppl servers). Ghosting & loothopping solved. Increase the 30 sec. logout timer to maybe 2 minutes with the option to watch and cancel and combat logging is a thing of the past too. Don't give me the 'nowhere is safe in chernarus' argument, I've hidden a bus in the mod that was still there the next day and yes that was a pretty populated server.
hawke84 7 Posted February 3, 2014 Thanks guys for your responses, was my first proper firefight and I combat logging did cross my mind but I thought no this is the game. I was trying to escape but there wasn't much cover. I did get him in the end and got his scope. Didn't feel bad at all!Didn't realise this was ghosting. Can't wait for fixes
hawke84 7 Posted February 3, 2014 Ghosting is lame, but the fact is you played poorly. As soon as you saw the guy log you should have moved.I disagree. I've seen people log out. I've shrugged and moved on only to have them re log almost straight away and kill me. I stopped because there was no real cover for a distance for me to run
DirtyscumbagLith 270 Posted February 3, 2014 whether you do the shooting or are getting shot at- you need to move. not moving usually leads to your death. theres no reason to camp if someone knows where you are.
