Zjasuu 337 Posted February 3, 2014 Now you can enter every building you want, I think like 90% of the houses should be locked and you would need a crowbar to break in.
Tabinator 20 Posted February 3, 2014 In a Zombie-Apocalypse i consider it as "wise" to lock your door safely. But anyway: Looting would become very annoying when you have to break up every house at first and general gameplay woulndt benefit!
professorchaos 20 Posted February 3, 2014 Generally a good idea, but maybe put it down to 20%, so buildings with rare stuff are locked, like police-stations or barracks :)

Rudette 435 Posted February 3, 2014 I think it would be pretty cool to raid the soda machines myself. Maybe some of the tool sheds. Things like that.Anywhere that there was people, or most places, will have had forced entries from the Zeds by looks of things, but some buildings being locked could be cool. You'd have to kind of look around to find a way in. Maybe even through a window, if you wanted to risk making the noise.
Ph4tPigeon 0 Posted February 7, 2014 Locked doors would be great, the doors should definitely be locked on all military buildings/barracks/ police stations. To get into a house you would have to have an axe/crowbar, pick the lock (picks were suggested in another thread) or maybe some houses would have a key left under a mat/pot/in the shed which could be a random spawn location. Shoot the locks but risk ricochet? Could also have extra rooms inside buildings like the office blocks, blocks of flats that are locked
jubeidok 495 Posted February 7, 2014 I like the idea of locked doors as long as it makes sense. I don't want to be locked out of a house that I could simply smash and climb through a window or reach in and unlock the door. You also gotta keep in mind that axes cut through wood. So as long as certain rules are followed, it could work without making the game any more tedious or frustrating.
Lupine 14 Posted February 8, 2014 of course the FIRE AXE and Splitting Axe would open a few doors as well... you could also make it that the sound of a breaking door might draw in any Zombies like the "Dinner bell" effect with using firearms.. making you forever watchfull.
blackberrygoo 1416 Posted February 8, 2014 This Is a great idea but like someone else said bring it to ~ 25% so people don't get bored of breaking into houses . And when the doors are breakable I expect them to be broken by any melee , certain ones taking much longer than others of course , and eventually pad locks would be added that need to be taken off with bolt cutters do that chests and anything else could be Locked and then subsequently broken open when found . Thanks, I think since the game is all about survival you should feel like a thief if you go into buildings.
cj14 189 Posted February 8, 2014 Generally a good idea, but maybe put it down to 20%, so buildings with rare stuff are locked, like police-stations or barracks :) Also some houses...and maybe SOME high value buildings could need a key lootable from a zombie...like...a military barrack is closed and can't be force opened, you'd need to find a dead corpse (prop only) with a key on it or kill military zombies for the loot (by this I mean the key) anyway, I'm up for locked doors :)

RedDogMT 41 Posted February 8, 2014 Locked doors do make sense, but so do doors that are smashed down or just flat out missing. For locked doors, players should have the option to pry them open wooden doors with the pry bar, smash them apart with the axe, or shoulder smash them from the inside (in case someone spawns inside a house that is fully locked). Of course, any method of opening a locked door should make noise, with the pry bar being the least noisy and the axe or shoulder being very noisy.

How many houses do you know of that are locked from the outside? lol...I don't think you thought that through all the way.
Malibuz0r 14 Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) With the crowbar, it should take 2 - 3 tries to open the locked door. With the axe, you should be able to smash the door, it then removes missing sections of the door (where you aimed to smash) then you should be able to fit you hand inside and open it up. Since I doubt they make an animation to have your hand go inside the missing section of the door, then it should just give the option to open the door normally. but then again, there are more weapons that can open locked doors. With a gun, just shooting where the lock is and the door should open. Etc.. Edited February 17, 2014 by Malibuz0r
