Clothing/pack repair w/ duct-tape

Recommended Posts

Has this been suggested/talked about yet? (and assuming that the mechanics and labeling are even possible in the game)

Seems that it would make sense you can repair a piece of clothing or bag with duct tape. Make it a temp. fix, though. Length of time the repair lasts depends on the grade of tape used, and the item condition deciding how much of the roll is used.

Tape condition: badly damaged = repair lasts 3 real hours, after which repaired item goes back to its previously unrepaired state/quality tier.

                         worn= repair lasts 5 real hours

                         pristine = repair lasts 8 real hours

Tape cost (item condition): badly damaged--> worn= 1 full roll

                                            worn-->pristine= 1/2 roll.

If you dont have the tape amount required, repair isnt possible. This would add some flexiblity to people's looting. Obviously an undamaged (pristine) previously unrepaired piece of clothing or bag will be more desireable then one that's been temp. fixed. (and hopefully the game has the ability to differentiate between origional pristine and repaired pristine)

Thoughts? suggestions or revisions?

As they say: If you can't fix it with duct tape, you're not using enough duct tape. Beans for suggesting this to be a part of the game. :)

I'm trying to imagine what a shirt covered with 1 full roll of duct tape would look like. Probably more tape than shirt fabric there in the end.

I posted this before but I think you should be able to use rags to patch up clothing or backpacks. If they added a sewing kit you could patch it back to worn, but it would be cool to add your duck tape idea and have it do something along the same lines.

maybe if you could not repair to pristine, but only to worn

Had this same idea...  glad i searched.  Was thinking that instead of repairing your clothes, you could make them wear out a little slower with duct tape. Basically, keep something that's damaged from becoming badly damaged and something that's bd'd from becoming ruined.  Maybe extend the life x2 with duct tape.

I too hope the duct tape becomes more useful.  I REALLY hope they add the ability to tape the flash light to a gun.  Or, duel weild the flashlight and gun, something needs to change in that respect, very badly.  I can't go on night servers because I can't hit the damn zombies.
