MagneticToast 102 Posted February 1, 2014 where it is the 30 second delay like in the mod, what is stopping people from ALT-F4ing or going to task man and closing the game quickly? IMO if this happens, your character should still stay for 30 seconds. I haven't been able to keep up with all of the topics, so this may be how it will be already, but was just curious, thanks. frosti 2165 Posted February 1, 2014 Your character does stay in game after alt+f4.
woochikaboo 25 Posted February 1, 2014 I think that is how it's going to be, but I'm worried that I'm going to log out where I think I'm safe, but a zombie will come and wreck me when I can't do anything about it.

Its not that hard to do dude. XD
dallas 5195 Posted February 1, 2014 As I understood it, whether you disconnect on purpose or accidentally from the game, your character will stay and sit down on the server for 30 seconds. At least that's what I hope happens.

africanhungergames 192 Posted February 1, 2014 Thats how it already works with the experimental patch. If you log out your character stays on the server for 30 more seconds no matter how they exit the game and that is to stop combat logging. Also if you try and join a new game within that 30 seconds then you will be hit with a time penalty of up to five minutes and this is to stop ghosting i beleive.
MysticL 71 Posted February 1, 2014 let's hope that 30 sec's will affect alt+f4 as wellanyway need some time to see how it will work
beelzebossi@hotmail.com 28 Posted February 1, 2014 I think the character stays in game even if your internet connection disconnects.
frosti 2165 Posted February 1, 2014 let's hope that 30 sec's will affect alt+f4 as wellanyway need some time to see how it will work That's not how standalone anti combat log work. There is no log out countdown. You log out immidetely after you press exit (or alt+f4) but your character always stays in game for 30 seconds, no matter what.
victusmortuus 1074 Posted February 1, 2014 I'll take a few unfair deaths from zombies/randomness if it means it stops Combat Loggers.

At least that's what I hope happens. You are correct. Also, there is a relog timer as well if you weren't in your previous server for more than 30 mins. It is working well in the experimental servers ATM. I think we can look forward to a welcome change in play style when it hits stable later this week. 'Death before Disconnect Dishonour!' Deathlove 2286 Posted February 1, 2014 That's the spirit! But one could say your a coward for killing some one logging out or AFK to if thats the case lol. Theres no honor in killing a target that cant fight back or is not aware of another player. Than again ppl should be smart enough not to log out from in cities with high risk. As long as it DOSNT affect my game play in a negative way im cool with whatever. However if disconnection becomes an issue latter down the line with servers i can see this being a problem. But as long as servers stay stable its all good.
w0lf3x 6 Posted February 1, 2014 I really like the idea for the combat logging since those people are really annoying, but what about the people who just want to log off for the night? I mean, it's not really fair if you're just logging and not bothering anyone -then suddenly someone stalking you decides to just shoot you while you're sitting. Maybe it's just me, but that small bit just doesn't sit well. Should have some kind of timer to if you're shot at you aren't allowed to log but if nothing for say 10-15 minutes then it should let you immediately disconnect. Don't know if my point is too clear here though...

If your attacked you shouldn't be a loot pinata for the other player it should cancel allowing you to ether fight back or get the hell out of there if need be. I can see this being exploited in some ways.

crimsonbzd 247 Posted February 1, 2014 Well, they'd have to make something to avoid this, e.g disabling Alt+f4 I think you might be unclear. If you click exit in game, your client will take you to the main menu immidiately. Your character will then plop himself down on the ground no matter the situation. If you alt+f4, your character will sit on the ground for 30 seconds on the con side: if you're in a fight and your internet disconnects, computer clicks off or bsod, your character will plop himself down on the ground for 30 seconds, meaning certain death. I'm sure once this is released on stable servers we'll see a lot of people who combat log and don't know about this just all the sudden sitting on the ground. Don't know if my point is too clear here though...30 s is only a long time if you're logging off in an uncontrollable situation. If you're logging off for the night in an unsafe location or during a firefight, WTH, you get what you get. Safety is your perogative. The problem with your solution is that it can be exploited. M4 on full auto shooting off rounds in a no-scope 360. That's a lot of bullets to trace and people to apply timers to. Server load isn't an infinite resource, so the system that is being tested is a nice simple solution that does not adversly affect the majority, while completely screwing over the likes of the loggers/ghosters/server jumpy freaks. On experimental it is working as expected, though that crowd of people have always been a more settled group of players. We'll have to see how it shakes out when it is pushed to stable servers to judge how much impact it will actually have. I'm expecting a lot of whineing post over the next weekend from those players who have come to rely on those types of exploits. It will be hard to NOT reply to every single one... 'LOL!'
