Explanation Of How Characters Work Across The Shards

I'm seeking an explanation of how characters work across shards.

I was under the impression were you able to have two distinct characters, one on the regular hive and one on hardcore.

For a while after the .32 patch, my character carried over between the two seamlessly for some reason, now if I log into a hardcore server it will delete my character on the regular hive and vise versa.

This has all become very confusing as to how this is supposed to work, and if I'm experiencing alpha-umbrella issue or if I'm just not understanding the system. Thanks.

There is a couple of hardcore servers which for some reason seem to use the regular hive (at least my regular character and position is being loaded when I log on to those). Other than that the hive separation seems to work relatively flawless for me atm. No character wipes or anything like that.

It should work the way you said, but also, sometimes bugs happen. It will get better with time.

But to add my 2 cents: I never had this problem/experience. Only some regular servers have a problem for me - they are not connected to the hive it seems, so i always start as a new spawn on them....

I just got my regular char on two hardcore servers.  My hardcore character was killed yesterday, so it should be a new spawn.

Since the latest patch, my character on the regular shard (the one I´ve invested most in and played the longest) is not visible on any hardcore servers, I checked. It starts as a fresh spawn on the beach. Afraid to lose any progress, I log out and go back to regular servers, where my kitted out character remains at the spot where I left it.

 

I thought you were supposed to have one charachter in stable, across both shards, and one on experimental?

Also, when this bug is fixed (assuming based on the feedback here that it is a bug), which character on the two stable shards will live? I.e. is there risk I will lose ´my´ character currently on the regular shard?
