Zombies Spotting You From A Distance.

Recommended Posts

Everytime i see a zombie from a distance, i purposely crouch and Spliter Cell my way around the houses or whatever objects i can use to shield my player.

The SA zombies seem to just chase you regardless, although if you have a weapon such as an axe it's not a problem, but when you're unarmed there's nothing you can really do. In the mod you could just hide in a tree or run into a building, but on this there's no escape.

It can become frustrating herding 2 or 3 zombies around a town whilst trying to loot.

Anyone have some helpful tips for me?

Find a wrench, start taking them down one and one before you goes looting.

You can also sneek up behind them and potentially killing them by one hit.

I usually dispatch zombies when they find me but when unarmed I found I could sprint outside of their detection distance and they would lose interest.

I do agree it's annoying that they can seemingly spot you through things right now although some of that could be them hearing you.

I agree - the distance in which they spot you is ridiculous.

Sometimes they see you over a distance of more than 200m, even if crouched or behind an even-colored background. Usually, they spot the player way better then the player can spot them.

I mean, come on, it is not like Zombies would permanently scout the landscape for survivors to consume. :)

If the infected can perform an as complex tasks as running is, they have to have decent eye sight too.

Don't worry about it. If you're unarmed, just aim for the top of their heads. You should punch them in the face (hit detection in melee is way off) and knock them down. Keep hitting them, and knocking them down if they get up. They'll be dead before you know it.

The only problem is that you'll take some damage, so stock up on torn-up t-shirts to bandage with before you go looting. You won't lose that much blood, though, and you'll find a weapon soon enough.

One of the effects of the infection is telescopic x-ray vision.

This is hilarious. One of the guys I play with was asking me to quote these lines over and over again last night. Apparently I sound just like a young Bill Paxton from Alien.

look at their cone of vision, it's very narrow, you can stand a little to the front of them and they still won't see you as long as they have their backs turned.  Use that to your advantage.

also they have an incredible short attention span, just fist sprint away a few meters and they loose interest.

They can also hear you, and that isn't effected by FoV. If you can see/hear them, they have a chance to see/hear you! Be careful out there, people!

Surely a better line given the current Alpher state would be "They're comin' out of the god-damn walls and floors!!" :P

I play on a 42" TV. I was once very high up on a hill round the Elektro area, and I looked and zoomed in at a figure that was literally standing on the waterline of the coast. It was maybe made of 10 pixels on my screen at the max level of zoom I could obtain, and I thought it was a player.

It was a zombie, which then turned at me, and interestingly enough ran all the way from the coast, across the little town, and all the way up the hill to me.

That was at least 1km away lol.

My advice to you: punch zombies in the head if you have no weapon.

They seem a bit buggy at the moment. I remember the mod suffered from this at one point also.

That shocked me also more than once, when you crouch through a house and sudenly that sound and between your legs... : O

But the dumbest thing I did in DayZ was the assumption, that a fence would stop the zombies..
