Dayz Backstory?

Recommended Posts

Some games have stories behind them that are not explicit, but exist and in order to understand the stories you need to pay attention in easter eggs and other things hidden in the game, or even very exposed, but difficult to figure out (like CoD zombies).

As many of you know, since the mod there is the Gr%$n M*(*ta#%n radio thing (can't speak the name, it's cursed! (funny because when I wrote that my chair made a so fucking weird and scary noise)). The radio transmissions lead to deer stands and blablabla, there is a whole "study" behind that. Check this topic if you don't know what I'm talking about: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/168707-the-ccsd-chernarian-creepy-stuff-department-needs-investigators-for-the-radio-transmission-mystery/

Aaaanyway, what if there is a backstory in DayZ? In the mod there were heli crashes, maybe it is somehow related to it? There's got to be a backstory. I actually think that there are more things in the game that makes that kinda obvious, but I just don't know them yet.

So... what do you think? Do you think that Dean made a backstory for DayZ? What if we, the fans, could make one, based on all these creepy things in the game?

I think that is part of the backstory, your own story.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who has come up with zombie apocalypse stories in my free time.

That radio shit was creepy as hell though, I hope he puts that back in if it's not already and/or other creepy shit.

It is. Before the SA release, I made a topic asking if it would be in, and after it released (like a month later), a guy sent me a PM telling me it was in and that it is creepy as hell. I saw a video of it in SA and dude, that scared the crap out of me... Although in the mod it was a bit scarier

I think the back story is that of the survivor.

Although i agree with your point, it would be cool to see what the community could conjure up in-regards to a story.

 The "the story is your own story" answer.

Not sure about back story, but in terms of fleshing the world out in a cool way, bringing in some more mystery, strange happenings, an unknown dangerous military/gov/scientific presence, etc, would be very welcome to experienced players i would think. Chernerus needs a little more creepiness IMO. To do that, i think you would need a little hint of a back story or "lore".

Ok, so heres what i figure. This seems to be a widespread, though short-lived, pathogen that has taken its effect, and we are the survivors of this pathogen, surviving on

what is left. Perhaps, it was a type of bioterrorism, or biowar even, and obviously, should that be the case, no one is the winner. Perhaps, a chemcal spill or a natural mutation of a virus damages the brain causing hyperaggression. (my favorite theory is that with a mutation of a virus with fitting symptoms, like rabies, which causes hyperaggression, this came to be) Obviously this was not an overnight thing, as the blown up humvees and apcs seem to suggest widespread panic induced rioting as local forces tryed to contain both the infected and the panicked public. Before the entire country fell however, foreign aid was being send by way of helicopters, and land vehicles, which explains the helicopter crashes and foreign vehicles that can be fixed, as well as the clothing such as the UN and New Zealand berets. However, its seems that they were under-informed and under-prepared as they came to help what could have been seen as plain civil unrest, and were quickly overrun. Presumably at this point, the virus/bacteria/parasite was still virile, and infected some foreign soldiers, who died either at the bases of mortal wounds, which explains the body bags in mod, or turned as they were being evacuated by helicopter or vehicle, killing their former allies, resulting in a helicopter crash or a fixable vehicle.

As this is going down, maybe our survivor is scratching by a living in the sewers, or mountains, or prehaps is at sea on a cruise or some such, and when the boat gets

overrun, they jump ship, the trauma of which gives them amnesia, and they end up washing up on the Chernarussian shoreline with nothing. But really, this part of the character is up to the player.

As can be seen, I think about Dayz too much, haha!

Have you boys heard about the Balota Ripper? He roams the forests, treelines, highways and by-ways in and around Balota, mainly at night.

He usually just watches and studies people, but on occasion, he will snatch a random explorer and gut the shit out of them.

His hobbies include skinning people and wearing their faces as masks. He also likes to howl at the moon and enjoys chasing wolf pussy in the mountainous regions...

I think it'd be really cool if a lot more CORPSES were added. I mean, not all people who were attacked by zombies became them. Mainly because zombies use their hands in this mod. It'd be disturbing, true, but kind of... cool in a way, as you can see the true effects of the apocalypse. Maybe have a field of corpses at the docks, where military personnel opened fire on the infected inside the crowd. Or... maybe even THE crowd.

Hopefully there could also be more evidence of panic ie crashed cars in the streets (I'm trying to figure out who set fire to all the cars in Chernarus), zombies and corpses in the wilderness, useable riot gear which could be found on police zombies - I expect there was a lot of civil unrest in the early days of the outbreak.

little things that a survivor could discover which makes them think about what happened there, people would start to imagine all kinds of things.

I figure it was panicked citizens attempting to escape who set the fires. Molotovs can do hell to lightly armored vehicles.

Maybe... or maybe there's a zombie with a flamethrower out there somewhere that nobody has seen yet...

When I saw that ship up the coast from Berezino, I thought maybe that explains the wealth of people of different nationalities that start off somewhere along the coast.

Being in a ship wreck, and being washed up on the shore somewhere is a bit of a cool idea behind the spawn mechanic.

Of course this is just my interpretation but I like the idea as it explains why you're there in the first place.
