A Little Problem...

Recommended Posts

Hello all, my name is Snowey and I have been playing DayZMod for about a year, and the Stand Alone for about two months. However, I am having trouble making the game run smooth on my system, my specs are as follows.

CPU: AMD FX-8350 (8-Cores, 4.0 Ghz)

GPU: Nvidia GTX 660Ti EVGA SC Edition

RAM: 4x4 GB (16 GB) Corsair Dominator

HDD: WD 250 GB 10000 RPM  *Game Installed Here*

HDD2: Sea Gate 1 TB 7200 RPM

I see this as the important things so let me know if you need all of the components specs.

Now to address my issues. I can run the game at "High" option when I am in the forest or even when I am on air strips and out in smaller villages, however, as soon as I hit a town like Stary Sobor or Elektro/Cherno my FPS takes a drastic hit, I lower my settings down in-game and in the config files, but it still is unplayable when in major towns. I assume this is from all of the objects in the buildings rendering in? If it is, is there a way to turn off OpenGL? I find rendering things that I don't even see is pretty pointless....

The reason I ask is because I see streamers run the game with what looks like a steady 60 FPS with all the settings maxed out, and I know that I don't have THAT bad of a PC, besides they are recording AND playing, while I am just trying to play.  :L

Any help/suggestions would be amazing, thanks!

It's not necessarily your system. Dean has said the game is just not optimized yet and is having some performance issues across the board.

Lower your settings even more or/and wait till performance improving patches will be released.

Did you try unparking your cores?

In every post I've seen about poor performance so far, the individual has mixed AMD and Intel components.

smh

In the wrong order... Intel CPU and AMD GPU works fine for both myself and a friend of mine.

Unpark my cores? Sorry, I am only hardware savy, not software. Do you mind explaining it to me, please?

Step 1. Get a decent liquid cooling system.

Step 2. OC to 4.5 - 4.7ghz.

Step 3. Profit. (as much as can be expected anyway)

Also, those streamers likely aren't running AMD processors. .

This is an easy fix. Dont even worry about messing with config files.  First go to your game library, right click on dayz, and click properties. There is a box at the bottom labeled set launch options. Type this in the box, or just copy paste

-cpuCount=4 -nosplash -noPause -maxMem=16384

This will force the game to run through 4 cores ( the max for the game, setting this at 8 will hurt you more), and use all 16 gigs of ram.

Next go in game, configure and video.  Rendering resolution should be at 100%, and Vsync disabled.

Under user interface, match your monitors resolution, and aspect ration. size on normal.

Under quality. with your setup, you can put your objects and terrain on high, clouds disabled, and shadows very low.

Under textures, video memory on auto, texture detail and filtering on normal.

Now the important one. Under rendering disable everything, and HDR quality on very low. put bloom and rotation blur off.

Try this and let me know how it works.

As of right now the game is really poorly optimized for CPUs with multiple cores (usually AMD) and it handles things a lot better with single core CPU's. Adjusting the CPU count setting in the launch options should help you run it better

It works well, however, not as good as it should (I think.) In Elektro I am only getting 35 FPS, when I am out in fields I get the usual 120+ FPS. This is why I think it is the object particles and such that you can't see that are slowing it down. As any experienced player knows most of the action takes place in Elktro, Cherno, and airfields, however, the frame rate is the worst here and it would be really nice to atleast get a 40+ FPS...

Perhaps I am just being spoiled from other free roam games that I have where I get 70+ FPS, always.

Just unparked cores through the powercfg.exe so all eight cores are always unparked, nothing really changed.

On the other part of your response, I am aware of Dean's statement to performance issues across the board, however, nothing has been mentioned (to my knowledge) of performance updates, besides would optimization be one of the first things fixed? If you have any knowledge of when the performance patches are planned, I'd love to know.
