Korsbaek 1778 Posted January 29, 2014 1. It's a huuuuuge glitch. They're working on it :) 2. Nope. They're trying to make the game as barebones as possibly. 3. Either just play the game without guides. It'll be the best feeling ever everytime you figure something new out. Ooor, you could search for some guides. Some of the guides out there are really good for new players like you.
AsHawkins 96 Posted January 29, 2014 I haven't started playing yet, But I have watched hours of videos and read tips and tricks to surviving, and although I have yet to step foot on the beach.. I'm ready.
PhilB 230 Posted January 29, 2014 First, I want a PS4 for Christmas . . My pro tips:Run upstairs if aggroed zombie and no weapon (anything below an ax is not a weapon). Once you have an ax, you can almost sprint up to a zombie and kill it with no aggro, as long as you are directly behind it.Don't bother with Electro/Cherno unless you know for sure you are on a fresh server. That rule generally applies for all towns. It only takes a single player to remove all good loot from any sized town.Even though all buildings are enterable, it is similar to mod in the sense that only a percentage of buildings are truly worth investigating. Take note of which style of buildings are lootless, this will be the same all over the map. Finally, get quickly to a military area and loot it on a quiet server. I know this is cynical and anathema to all DayZ but really, it's a shit world out there in Chernarus and you gotta do what you gotta do, awesome.
Element47 2481 Posted January 29, 2014 3. any tips when starting off as a fresh spawn?use cover.move inland. drink until full when at a well or pond (yes, this means spamming the key for an extended period) and btw: drinking at ponds works in 1st person only.eat all the food you find, dont carry it around. zombies dont like hills. use it to your advantage.snipers like hills. use it to your advantage. dont get attached to your gear.dont log out when in danger. face it. embrace it. Remember not to just run out into the open though! If you're on a high populated server someone might notice a zombie chasing you in town and just wait until they can attack when you're in the open. Remember to play it smart and take care of your surroundings :)
ep_metheus 75 Posted January 29, 2014 1. doors dont apply to zombies?2. no global chat?3. any tips when starting off as a fresh spawn? 1. Doors or Walls don't apply at the moment. Hopefully soon. On the other hand there's not that many zombies in the game at present, so you can think of it as a feature that makes them more of a threat. :)2. No global chat. Only direct - both voice and typing. You can find a walkie-talkie in the game and set it to a specific frequency, then talk to people in the general area who have theirs set to the same frequency. Not sure if this works yet, I found a walkie-talkie, but it was in the previous version (yep, I'm still alive since then) and my walkie-talkie doesn't allow any interaction.3. I find that experiencing the game yourself + having a look at the forum here and there when you get stuck makes for the most satisfying gameplay. There's a lot of advice on the forum and on YouTube, but if you figure things out for yourself it will feel like you've achieved something (the first time you figure out how to deal with zeds, where to find food/water, your first gun... etc.). Seeking advice too early will rob you of this experience. (Some) General rules for fresh spawns:1. get off the coast2. don't eat rotten fruit3. don't approach groups of armed players4. don't engage in mass free-for all fistfights that often happen at spawn points
bunkers 5 Posted January 29, 2014 It only takes a single player to remove all good loot from any sized town. Since all buildings are quickly empty, and no loot respawns.. how are we supposed to get loot? It's only by pvp then, which is kinda narrow.
kris kringle 0 Posted January 29, 2014 So loot NEVER respawns? Is it even worth looting the town I spawn at?And I'd assume you can't server hop right?
merlointhesky 20 Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) my 2 cents:look around the places and learn to recognize where you spawn and where is the closest water pump. Getting the hang of where you are and where you are going will save you alot of time.closed doors might mean loot available inside that building, but also someone waiting for you, if they heard you, be cautious. ProvokeMe 12 Posted January 29, 2014 Loot doesn't "respawn" but is spawned on server restart currently. Once picked up it's gone till the server is restarted. This is why many of the servers state in their description that they restart every four hours or something along those lines.

djporternz 644 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) 1. Zombies... Alpha... Will be fixed when they are fixed!2. Correct. No global spam. Don't need it! Don't Want it!3. Watch these: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/159251-merinos-in-depth-video-guides-updated-jan-22nd-all-medical-items-to-keep-or-not-to-keep/. Everything else you can pick up in game.4. Server restart doesn't reset your gear... at least not intentionally. But this is Alpha and there are bugs.5. You can server hop. There will be penalties coming with the next stable patch, so don't get to comfy with it. So, welcome to DayZ. Now get in there and play! ProvokeMe 12 Posted January 30, 2014 No global chat makes perfect sense. You're surviving in a zombie apocalypse... why would you be able to speak to players miles and miles away? "Don't engage in fist fights at spawn points" - Probably the funniest and most honest bit of advice I have EVER seen. Bravo... you have my beans.
