First tries and getting bored

Recommended Posts

Well I have the game since about one month and I always died of shitty stuff.

Most of the time I died because of starving to death or of sickness, because there where no loot. Is the loot still broken? Most of the time I find nothing in the starting village (Kamyshovo), no food, no weapon, no drinks, only shoes and pants...

Then I swich servers, and also nothing. Ok sometimes I find rotten stuff...

There should be at least some loot for every new player, like a knife, baseball bat or something else. Also some food and drinks.

When I then walk to Elektro to find some stuff I always get shot by some idiots. Most of the time I even don't have a weapon.

PvP is ok for me, but other player should have a chance, too. There should be a punishment for players who kill unarmed players. At least marking them as PK-char.

So you log in, try finding some food, drinks and at least a weapon to fight the zombies, but u end with starving to death , die of sickness/ poisoning  or of PK-douchbags who like killing unarmed players with sniper or assault rifles.

yeah its hard for a new player, but the key is to get off the south coast as soon as you can, its worth a run at electro or Cherno after freshly spawning, just to get some basic kit, but after that get out.

There is plenty of loot if you look in the right places, you just need to move further away from the spawning areas. If you want easy mode, then log into a server with few players and loot some out of the way cities like Zelenogorsk or Berezino.  I have played the standalone for about 50 hours now and I have yet to die of hunger or thirst, you just need to know where the resources are.

Get. Off. The. Coast. Go north as soon as you spawn. Head to Msta or Staroye for the water pumps, and then begin looting northern villages. Most are only 1-2km away from each other. 95% of the players stay on the coast so the northern towns are untouched and unlooted and that is where you will find lots of goodies.

1) find a water pump.

2) find a weapon, axes are preferable.

3) get a backpack and clothing with storage.

4) stock up on food and water.

5) profit.

go on low population servers...loot is abundant.

- this is because loot only spawns on server restarts...to be fixed once stable for loot timers.

get off the coast, head inland. enjoy the game proper.

- contrary to youtube, the game is most certainly not a boxing fightclub/stickup simulator.

great things to do?

 - goto airfields / military bases (low pop (night) servers make traveling safer and the loot is available)

 - find mosin / scope - snipe people/be stealthy

 - actually hold some bandits up and not just fresh spawns

 - see the north of the map, some amazing stuff north west corner/north east corner

USE THE DAYZ DATABASE

Learn the spawns, all of them have either a water pump in town or in a neighboring town.

Only 2 buildings in small towns currently have loot spawns, a Tan-ish one and the medical building... (find these two through the database)

Then run coastline to a bigger city, hit the fair loot buildings until you get on your feet.

Head to the high yield loot spawns, Military bases (above Kamenka, Balota, AFs)

Or hit up the high yield buildings in Elektro/Cherno even Berezino (big industrials are your friends. (Mosin/Shotgun/FireAxe) spawns.

You need to do your research. Learn what buildings spawn what, make a route for each spawn location.

The loot conditions are rough but not impossible.

PM me if you want specific buildings/strategies.

Encouraging him to be a douche?

Instead of being a cowardly sniper, once you get geared up try helping people in your shoes find water, food, gear and retain your humanity instead of listening to peopel telling you to murder others.

Ignore this. GET OFF THE COAST. Dont run the coastline. HEAD NORTH. Go inland and avoid the coast.

I seriously cannot understand these "is loot broken, i can't find anything" post, like Quazimofo said, get off the coast, look somewhere besides Kamy and Elektro. It's a really big map, utilize it FFS. Why buy a game to see 2% of the map?

Bullshit.

I have rarely ever left the coast and i acquire everything there is to get. No reason to waste time going North, its boring and time consuming.

Lol. Or maybe you cant handle not knowing exactly where you are and potentially running into real players.

By real players I mean people that actually play legit. Not server hop the coast and camp Elektro.

I've been alive for over 2 weeks and I've been everywhere atleast twice on my current playthrough(Lots of new stuff compared to the mod). Honestly My preferred route as a fresh spawn is NE, Berezino-->Shipwreck--->Krasno city/Airfield. Though I use to always spawn on the east coast. Then explore, learn the map while keeping a steady supply of food and water. Kill only those who are a threat to you, personally if I go to the coast its to hunt bandits. If I see a player who is a fresh spawn or under geared, I help them. But be cautious, even if they only have a pipe wrench. Keep a safe distance, and control the situation. The key to winning most gunfights, is positioning, and if you feel like you lack the gun skills needed, play arma 2 and practice. Also learn the bandit hangouts. Be aware of your surroundings, and think "if I were a guy who had no life and wanted to wait for hours to kill gearless players where would I be"?

It's a shame really, that so many people resort to hiding on a hill for hours to shoot a few guys carrying a battery. This game has great potential, but its the community that will define this game. Don't disappoint.

All the coast has are cowardly, turdcutting KOS'ers looking for new players just like the OP to kill and ruin his experience.

Lol. Or maybe your just a pussy and cant handle not knowing exactly where you are and potentially running into real players.

We are talking about collecting loot, not engagements with other people.

If you use a map, getting lost up North is not a problem.

I cant be sure whether i see "real" players at the coast, but i would love to know how these Northern players are so much more "real" than the ones i face down South.

^ Good point, the OP will just get fed up of being held up by bandits looking to get a thrill of killing new spawns. Better to be safe and head north, gather resources and learn the map a little better as well so at least when he dies he'll have some knowledge of where to go or what to do

We are talking about collecting loot, not engaging others... you're going off track.

Who you run into doesn't matter if you don't have gear, and that's what we are talking about.

Some people play for gear, some play for the experience.

Valid point, apologies for calling you a pussy, I edited, rough day lol.

I personally just feel that too many players stay on the coast and rob themselves of a lot of the game.

Never loot the starting village unless there is no-one on the server! Find the water source closest to you (http://www.izurvive.com/chernarusplussatmap.html) then head inland! Smaller villages can be better for new players as less chance of encountering someone. Concentrate on finding a Splitting/Fire Axe. then the rest. Make Bandages with your t-shirt right away too.

When I first started playing I died a few times of hunger/thirst.  I was exploring the town I spawned in and the new few inland, all I could find were rotten fruits.  The thirst was solved by looking at any dayz map.  There really wasn't any loot in the first two towns.

I always go back to the coast because I never ever run into other plays inland.  In my 60 hours so far, I ran into ONE person at the NE airfield, and one other player in a small town.  I get so bored running around inland that I go back to the coast to see some action.

OK I just played for 1 hour starting at Berezino. Not using a map or compass I ran west inland to see how much gear I could find in as little time as possible. 1st stop was Polana where I found a water pump and drank until I was stuffed and then drank some more. After looting a few houses I found 3 Taloon backpacks, 1 screwdriver to open the several cans of food I found, and a canteen. OK this was the first 20 minutes of playing. After that it only got better with all the spiffy new clothing I found such as hunting pants, hoodies, raincoats, etc, not to mention a Magnum and 2 boxes of ammo and a speed loader, bags of rice, water bottles and canteens, lots more food, saline IV, etc.

If you get off the coast where 99% of the players are you are bound to find gear since nothing will have been looted yet.

It's not that it just works for me. My point is that this works for anyone, especially new players having difficulties starting off.

I just can't wrap my head around why everyone hangs out on the coast. The first thing anyone seems to do when they spawn is rush to Elektro to play CoD or they just hang out on the coast to kill fresh spawns for their batteries. I just don't see how that is fun.

People hang out around the coast because there are people at the coast. You can access all the loot from going inland without going inland.

Clearly, going inland wasnt made to be a priority with the standalone... given that Balota and the military base above Kamenka have plenty to go around.

Or Chernos new features and loot spots...

People stay on the coast because this "revised" version of the map allows if not encourages it.

My only point is that my method works for anyone too.
