It'd be ludicrous to think there WONT be a functioning train

Recommended Posts

Trains would give those who dont have access to vehicles a way to travel the coast. Especially if they introduce stamina and a 2km trek to cherno or electro isnt 5 minutes anymore. Idk i think theres a lot of cool stuff that can happen with this idea.

I don't think it would be a simple case of hopping on the train...

There will be power plants that will be held by clans, barricaded bases if you will.  So whomever controls the power plants controls the train.  I feel there will be an economy built around the train if and when its implemented just as there is and was in real life.

None of this is confirmed, unless I missed something... :S

I want to be able to tie down players to rails with a rope...

From a design perspective, it'd be absolutely pointless to tie up Ivan with the task of closing the loop of the train tracks to nowhere of Chernarus past if there was no larger plan in mind.

Imagine if GTA V had a circular train loop and no functional train. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

I do think it is a very late development feature that might even be added in beta, and will not be mentioned for a good long time. But choo choo! It's on the way for sure IMO.

Thoughts?

There is no loop. The tracks end at a new location above Lopatino. Some weird bus/train station with a billboard of a lumberjack drinking a soda with Devils Mountain in the backdrop.

I dont see anything wrong with train , one diesel locomotive in random condition spawned randomly on rails

But then add ability to sabotage it and destroy rails with crowbars etc.

of course not, i wouldn't expect anything in DayZ to ever be that simple lol xD not with something waiting in every bush to end your life

It'd actually be ludicrous to think there would be.

What we do need is one of those manually operated trolley things like in Metro 2033 :)

Theres no way youre sabotaging a railway with a crowbar lol. It would be nice to be able aquire a road-rail vehicle. Like a truck or something that could drive on the tracks....if for no other reason than if they have railroads, someones got to inspect them, and that someone probably drives a road-rail vehicle. If I cant get in a real train, at least let me pretend my truck is one.

You'd be surprised how easily you can screw things up.  While it'd be harder to sabotage tracks than with the right tools, a 45 ton switcher can be derailed by a large branch (2-3 inches in diameter).  Tracks only need to be a few inches out of gauge and the loco will do the rest of the work.  We had tank traps in the mod, one of thous arranged the right way in the roadbed would do a lot of damage.

Civilization has crumbled, society as we know it is extinct. Mankind has abandoned their homes and taken to the woods, reverting to scavenging and brutally murdering eachother for cans of beans. The vacant military bases are being looted as the lone survivors prepare for inevitable combat.

A bright light burns in the distance, growing larger. The ground rumbles and a roaring builds in the distance. A train! Thank god, in this time of chaos and despair the Chernarus Rail Association appears unaffected!

Storytime aside, I think handcars would be cool. Take up less energy than running along the tracks and you travel at around the same speed, or maybe more depending on how hard they are to get/build/maintain?

Who would be operating the train? If it ran off of electricity, why does only the train have electricity? If players could fix it and drive it, how would they turn it around once it got to the other corner of the map?

Deisel If you look at the locomotives that are already in the game they are basicly the russain copy of the GP-7 and GP-9s. I would be cool to have a working loco with working swtiches and and everything with a bunch of cars you can ride the train and raid every place lol.

If there is a train that can be made to move, guaranteed players will work together to get it moving. And then die. And then do it again. Why? Because trains.

exactly, I think it would encourage a lot of interesting gameplay as far as hero groups fixing it up and maybe armouring it and then saving newspawns and bandit groups ambushing the train. The cool thing about it is that if you found a group of friendly guys all on direct chat you could suggest "lets go fix the train and get it running" It has to be somewhere along the tracks. Cars on the other hand could be anywhere and hard to find.

I think in the interest of fun some things in this game need to be prioritized on the realism chart. For example I hope they never remove helicopters but the idea that functioning helicopter exist maybe doesn't make the most sense considering context. They are just fun to have
