I just killed my first innocent survivor... And I feel terrible.

my friends and i incorporate something into our tactics when playing dayz that might help you sleep at night... KoS, just think about how pissed you would be if she killed you just for being nice... I ask and give warning shots as well but geared up chars get no love cause i care too much about my character and him not dying... hope this helps a little

me and my boy had a firefight in NWAF against a team of 6 we managed to lay waste to 4 of them before we decided to book it and no i dont mean combat log, we started running away cause it was getting intense and i guess one of the better snipers caught me with a shot to the head cause i dropped dead mid stride, my boy managed to get away unfortunately for me not the case, anyways any AF is a hot zone, you dont make friends there you either kill or be killed.

This is just a beautiful game.  On day 2 of my adventures last week I ran into a wounded guy who was bleeding and being chased by a zombie.  He was yelling "shoot him shoot him shoot him" but i only had a shotgun and one round of ammo, so i pulled my axe and killed the zombie.  The guy (sounded like a teenage kid) was so grateful he kept thanking me and asking me if i needed anything and just wouldn't shut up.

I didn't have my mic set up so i just turned to jog away and he says "ok i'll just follow you then."  I stopped, thought about it for a second and was like "wrong answer dude" so I pulled my shotgun and shot him in the chest from 5 paces.  He fell flat on his face.  So I looted him and moved on.  True story.

So I was raiding the NEW airstrip with my mates and we spotted a survivor in full camouflage with weapons and all. She ran up across the field, I wasnt sure wether or not she knew we were there but my friend has sights on her and shot a warning shot that hit her accidentaly. I turned arround and saw her on the corner, arms down not carrying a weapon. I completely panicked and filled her face up with bullets in a heartbeat. I instantly regretted it. I was going to ask her if she was friendly too. I'm the typical friendly guy and I always ask if people are friendly but this time... I just panicked. And I feel terrible about it. Man, i feel serious real life guilt from that.

I'm sorry, random person on NW airfield. You were probably friendly but I was too scared.

T_T Please forgive me...

yeah for all you know it could have been the next Indira Gandhi waiting to happen.

I found the more normal and calm I feel during any kind of pvp game, the better I do. Being emotional, rattled or nervous does not help me one bit in pvp. I don't care, I shot other players on a drop of a hat if needs be in a game, because I know its not really going to hurt the other person other then their pride. Or if I get shot I'm a good sport. Win or lose its just entertainment. Although in dayZ its not really win or lose its survival or what ever you want it to be. Its just a game that's ran on a vary good military sim engine. There no real loss always remember that, its just a game. Role play and have fun.

OP I know how you feel. I almost always play strict hero, meaning i never shoot anyone anywhere unless i have a reason to. I will take that 1/10 chance that he's a friendly guy or new player just trying to make it through the day and not shoot, rather than assume just because he looks like a bandit and he's in a military base means he's a bandit and shoot.

Yes i die many times but i would never want someone to feel how i feel or how i know other people feel when they die without just cause of engagement.

It's also a much more rewarding way to play rather than being a bandit shooting everything that moves, because I'm actually helping new players and other friendlies with their own experience. :)

I feel bad as shit when i shoot someone and my heart always start to race but today is the first time i didnt feel bad.

Todays encounter:

Me and a friend was looking around the shipwreck earlier today and saw two guy enter. Due to a server restart 5 min earlier we decided not to let them find weapons in there. Shot and killed one of them and the other guy starts to talk over proxy

"Why'd you kill him? I guess you don't have much ammo left! Laydown and drop your weapons!"

(We had enough for a platoon baby!)

Anyhow I start talk to him while my mate just wants to slaughter this guy.

I end up finding him and shoot him, he was unconsious and starting asking why I shot him.

*Says lay down and drop you weapons

*Asks why we shot him

I say we needed food + you where a threat.

He say there's a special kind of hell for people like me

I feel sad, and say im an atheist

He say there's a special kind of hell for atheists

I end his life with my Magnum and walk away.
