Steam Achievments - Possibly Encourage Player Interaction For Achievment Whores?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking it would be nice if we could get Steam Achievements for the game..Perhaps for doing actual player-interaction.

I've Got Your Back - Kill An Infected Within 5 Meters of The Nearest Player

Your Beans Or Your Life - Handcuff Another Player

Not A Great Thirst Quencher - Drink Disinfectant

You've Got Red On You... - Bandage a Bleeding Player.

The Forbidden Fruit:  Eat A Rotten Kiwi Or Feed It To Another Player

Congratulations, You Won DayZ! - Find a Can Opener In Pristine Condition

Mosin Pro: Kill 80 Infected With The Mosin

M4 Master: Kill 100 Infected With The M4

Shotgun Justice: Use The Shotgun To Kill 300 Infected

The Legend of The Dewed - Find A Can of Green Mountain Dew and become the legendary "Dewed".

Now You're A Man - Kill A Total of 1000 Infected

Grease Monkey - Repair 20 vehicles

And Zat Vas How I Lost My Medical Lizense - Perform a transfusion of the wrong blood type to another player

I don't like achievements and I think Rocket would agree with my reason. Achievements are an arbitrary element to the game that encourages you to go down a path you perhaps wouldn't have naturally. And that natural decision making and free form exploration is what makes DayZ... well, DayZ.

There should never be anything telling you what to do at any specific point in DayZ, ever. Be it though objective marker or achievement, it would create artificial incentive that was not spawned from the player naturally reacting to his situation.

It would be your own decision to go after these achievements though. This would also encourage people to actually kill zombies instead of running straight past them.

Then again, I wouldn't expect this to be added before the game reaches beta.

I think I could enjoy Steam Achievements, but they aren't my main draw to the game. I would end up forgetting about them to tell you the truth.

I'm all for it, as it doesn't do anything to change the gameplay

I've always felt achievements weren't as fun to go for on Steam as Xbox, due to the fact that they're not so In-Your-Face about them.

But it may inspire some to try new styles of gameplay.

I think it would be quite nice to see some achievements as it would, to an extent, give you an objective in the game if you didn't want to just survive.

Would something like achievements though not be implemented slightly further on in the development, when the game is slightly more stable and has more depth to it, e.g. out of alpha?
