crimsonbzd 247 Posted January 25, 2014 This idea comes from a very old, very dead game called Ultima Online. We're talking 2D figures moving back and forth old.In UO, when you would log out, your character would remain in the world for 5 minutes standing still. So, instead of giving players a timer to wait out to log off, which can always be gotten around using alt f4 or similar means, I would suggest DayZ adopt a similar system. The effect is simple, you are allowed to "exit" any time and anywhere you want. You will remain there for a few minutes, in the position you logged out in, completely open to attack. Not only would this halt combat logging, but it would also prevent ghosting and lessen server hopping. Especially on the server hopping - tell me, would you log out anywhere near an airfield if you were gunna sit there for five minutes after you did so? acekaze 9 Posted January 25, 2014 That logging system has holes, for exemple, you could log out in the middle of nothing thinking your safe and because of those 5m a random zombie pops up and kills you ( at least i assume when there is more zombies this could happen) and 2, what would happen if you logged out or disconected, and then came back right away if you logged on other server? would you be blocked for 5m of logging in? Yes you'd still be part of the server for the next five minutes. In UO, those holes didn't really end up being a problem. If you needed to log while in like Fellucia or something (PVP zone basically) you'd clear all monsters that might be in the area and log in a secluded place.I could see perhaps protecting logged players from zombies, as that could be a little intrusive, but I believe this would be a much better system than preventing the "exit" button from working for a certain amount of time. It's like a weak lock on your doorknob - it only stops the honest people - which is not who we're concerned about anyways.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) 30 secs to 1 min is plenty enough to make players choose a pretty safe place to log out and not just in the middle of battle. And in case you log out on servers that have an avatar countdown ( mod ) and a zed gets near you at least that's what i experienced the zeds won't attack you since you are just any other object for them quasi an empty shell and therefor not interesting. BHBDeano 18 Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) I'd be up for this for combat logging but there needs to be more ways to log out, maybe at a bed in a house (like you could in UO) that gives a 30sec timer or sleeping bag as loot able item. would be fun to actually think need to log out soon better go find some shelter.
