Killing on sight: Possible solution

Recommended Posts

I feel like the bandit leaderboards are counter-productive. Correct me if you think I'm wrong, but I think that a leaderboard like that is a huge incentive for people coming from games like Call Of Duty to just kill every survivor they find.

Sure, it's a cool stat but if it's going to affect gameplay by making every player hostile, maybe it should be reconsidered.

It definitely gives those assholes a reason to just kill others on sight, of course there would be bandits without the leaderboards, but i think more people would be willing to help others if there wasnt such a leaderboard.

Tell me one reason why wouldn't i instantly shoot a stranger coming towards me whose intentions i don't know and i know that if he wants to kill me and i won't shoot him first i'm dead.

So can you please enlighten me and tell me why in the love of god would i trust a random internet person? I'm shooting everyone on sight usually and there's a reason for it. Unless there's going to be a game mechanic that makes it more rewarding to play in a group then there's no point on risking your gear.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I come from CoD too and I can definitely see the temptation. Luckily I enjoy survival horror and sandbox games more than arcade shooters so I haven't become a bandit so far - zero kills (a few deaths though :)

I've seen a few bandits here in the forums boasting about their number of murders in somewhat unrelated threads, sharing their position on the leaderboard. This was what brought the possible issue to my attention.

You're making assumptions that are not warranted. Yes, you DO know their intentions in this case - I should have been more clear, let me explain.

I am talking about the fuckers who kill you without a word when you try to contact them. This has happened to me 5 times now, in my 2 days of playing.

Whatever. You are obviously one of the bandits that will not be remotely affected by the removal of the leaderboards. But some might kill just for the stats, and that's what the issue is.

It would be nice if there was some kind of way to distinguish between bandits and survivors. Ideally it wouldn't be necessary, but since there is no moral consequence to killing people in a video game, douches will do it for sport, and people who would rather be survivors switch to being a bandit because it's easier/less risky.

rocket has said there will be a humanity system (re)implemented eventually. this, coupled with more end game content will help even the balance out.

removing bandit skins was the worst thing that has happened to this mod, worse than removing your mak

Theres no reason to have a murders board, people will KOS just to try get on it.

Killing players in defence, for food, weapons and vehicles should be the only reasons that people actually kill each other. Not because theres some leaderboard that shows how long you've sat there, killing fresh, unarmed players.

I do agree the 'kill' murder board is useless, being a KoS bandit myself. It just encourages Chenro/Eletro Camping.

It is not needed.

But it will not prevent KoS's. You need a way to communicate easier. Bringing back Global chat / direct chat would easily fix this or lesson the pain.

Because coop is fun?

What if someone just likes to kill people for fun?

That is why this game doesnt work as intended, most players only find the pvp fun so they play just for that.

If your playing the game right and i mean "surviving" your KOS anyway so i think we are all bandits. The only people no KOS is those withough weapon.

they should bring back bandit clothes so people know if someone is hostile or not. This allows people to be bandits but at the same time will reduce the amount of survivors KOSing other survivors. Also it discourages people from wanting to be mass murderers since other players will already know the bandits intentions when they see him and can act according and reduce the amount of new players being befriended only to be be shot in the back 5mins later for sum beans

I think one of the recent updates added a heart beat as a kinda "bandit skin". Which is kinda neat I think. The group I play with have been playing games together for years. But we have picked up a few new people to our community in this game. One of those new people was with us the other night. We all noticed a fairly loud heart beat when we looked at him. He said he had 12 murders cause being on his own forced him to be hostile. Now that he is giving us help...i.e. bandages, blood bags and whatnot...his humanity should go up and the heart beat sound should go down.

My point...there is a way in game to tell if someone might be hostile or not. Just listen for that heart beat when you see a stranger. Also another way to "fix" KOS is to stay out of sight. :)

Report threads instead of posting "Can a mod move this?"

Thread moved.

Also, there is no solution. You are the solution.

I think there are actually any number of ways to play this game "properly."

I believe the zombie apocalypse poses interesting philosophical and moral questions regarding the nature of man. A plague has turned vast numbers of the population into mindless killing machines. If you respond to this by becoming a mindless killing machine yourself' date=' what does that say about the survival of the human race? Is it worth saving? What makes you different from a zombie that attempts to kill everything in sight? Sure, you have a gun, but your motivations are essentially the same.

I prefer to play as a survivor and not KOS (despite the fact that I'm often heavily armed). It's certainly [i']easier to play as a KOS bandit, but I enjoy the added challenge and tension. I also like preserving what humanity there is of humanity.

That being said, I personally don't think there needs to be a way to readily identify bandits as bandits. Removes the tension. When you can't immediately tell if someone is friend or foe, it forces you to play more cautiously, and I enjoy it.

Theres bound to be those players too, granted I'm sure they'd have just as much fun playing call of duty or any other fps due to the fact they can't/refuse to grasp the concept of working with others to survive.

There shouldn't be any incentive*, however, to killing players other than what I've listed above. *sorry intangible incentive, other than 'fun'.
