Noticed Something Slightly Off...

Recommended Posts

Okay, maybe way off

DayZ2014-01-2418-26-05-56.png

Notice here how my cross hair is pointed at the black square

DayZ2014-01-2418-26-13-61.png

When I look down the sight of my shotgun it isn't aiming at the black square. Notice how it points lower and slightly to the right.

DayZ2014-01-2418-26-31-90.png

You can see how the shotgun is clearly pointing downards from this angle (this screenshot was taken with my head turned, but my cross-hair still on the black square)

Using Magnum to test

DayZ2014-01-2419-19-00-22.png

This is where my cross-hair fell when I zoomed back out. I fired the Magnum after this picture was taken.

Lo and behold the bullet hole where the first person cross-hair fell, not where the third-person cross-hair fell.

it seems the cross heirs are not as reliable as we hoped....

This post may have saved me from trying to go guns blazing in 3rd person...

Thank you sir.

Although, you changed buildings... Picture 4 and on are a different location...

And you have different gear! I should be a detective!

Did you notice that if you aim at something in first person, go to third person, you will be aiming just above from where you were in first  person.

It's called perspective. Notice how the camera pulls back, is raised, and rotated down a little bit? So now you are viewing it from a different angel.

I was going to include why in the original post but I thought it was irrelevant. I took the screenshots when I first noticed this. I didn't want to waste 1 of my 4 shotgun shells and I also didn't think the shotgun would be precise enough for testing. So I started searching for a different weapon to use and this is the result.

I understand why it's happening. That doesn't help us people that want our shots to go where the cross-hair is. I think this makes it clear where Rocket stands on the first-person/third-person argument. But, we already knew that.

I'm not being funny but there was a thread about this a short while ago. My advice: Use your sight as intended.  :P

It's funny because I was debating whether or not to include that information, I didn't, and you called it out almost immediately, haha  :P  If you look close enough you can see a zed charging me down.

Beats me. Uploaded that stuff a long time ago. I only use that photobucket for stuff like this. Haha. For a minute I thought you could somehow see me through my webcam, because I kind of look like harry potter and there is a couch directly behind me and my girlfriend was naked on it last night when I was playing.

Ok. I'll give you that.1z4hi0j.jpg

I can't believe I found some thing that illustrates this. Some master MS Paint skills too.  :P

I think it can be a good trade off; Some what Less accurate aiming, for near omnipotent situational awareness. OK... Maybe it needs a little more work...

Good job finding a relevant pic, but I don't think the line of sight drops like that. 3PP line of sight is parallel to 1PP line of site, and 1PP line of site originates from your gun barrel (as represented in your picture).  That's why the 3PP crosshair is slightly higher and to the left of the bullet I fired.

Third person has been unreliable since ARMA. You aren't SUPPOSED to engage in third person.

I always shoot in first person (unless I'm wasting bullets on zeds), but it's odd that the game leads you to assume that the 3PP crosshair is accurate. It even bobbles around when you raise your weapon, which I interpreted as reflecting where your gun is actually pointing. It does reflect where your gun is pointing when it's bobbling like that, but the actual crosshair is down a foot and a bit to the right. The bobbling of the cross-hair is just weird, because it suggests that it's showing you exactly where the crosshair is, when in reality it's way off. I don't actually have a problem with it the way it is. But I think It's worth bringing up.

I know the pic over exaggerated the angles. I feel that the camera is rotated down a little bit to compensate for it being higher than the player model. I could be wrong. But to be honest, I'm too busy trying not to be KOS'ed to really care if it is or not.

I don't think so. The player can rotate it any way they want, but I think the angles of the two perspectives are parallel. If 3PP is angled at all, it would be up, not down. Either they are parallel, or 3PP points up. Otherwise the results of the test would be different. Only way to know for sure is to recreate the test and see if the difference between 3PP and 1PP increases or decreases based on distance. I prefer to know exactly the way it is. That way I can use it as an advantage should I run into any KoSers  :D

Isn't that intentional? Crosshair is just an approximate way of aiming at close range or in panic.

I think it was intentional when it was made that way for arma. It's not approximately off though. Its exactly off. You can shoot accurately knowing exactly how far off.

Hi.

This is how the silly aiming reticule has always worked in rv engine games since 2001. This isn't UT, If you aren't using your scope/iron sights your doing it wrong.  Although it's great when some rookie tries to ambush you in 3PP and instead fills the ground 2 feet in front of him

I'm surprised the devs even left it in. OpF and the ArmA series only let you use it at the lower skill level settings. I'm hoping Rocket will at least remove it on the hardcore servers.

Regards.
