BattleSarge 8 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Recently, in DayZ standalone, there have been many attempts of friendly interaction. But it has been hard to tell apart friend from foe, especially when both of you are holding guns, which usually results in a gun fight and people getting killed. But with the new clothes in the recent update I see opportunity for a way to let people know you are friendly by your clothing. -First, find a Blue (UN) Military Beret. In real life the UN are peacekeepers, so the UN beret signifies friendly in real life (mostly, anyways) So why not in the in-game DayZ community? -Also, ditch the Gas Mask. Those things just look all around menacing and scary. And quite frankly, it gives the mentality that you are a bandit. I understand that they look freaking awesome but they make people think you are a bandit. - If possible, get a press jacket. They block bullets (I think) plus they are blue, just like the UN Beret. Another way to identify friend or foe. Tell me what you think below. Is friendly military attire a good idea or not? Also, leave suggestions for other ways to dress friendly. (Quick note. This suggestion is for armed and geared up players, as the Kill on Sight (KoS) mentality is usually from seeing other players holding guns) EDIT: The UN is MEANT to symbolize peace. I do not want political talk about the UN Edited January 24, 2014 by BattleSarge
theGreatH 11 Posted January 24, 2014 I like the idea, but what would stop bandits to put on the same clothes and shoot you once you think he's friendly?
Geckofrog7 1168 Posted January 24, 2014 what would stop bandits to put on the same clothes and shoot you once you think he's friendly? Also it's quite the controversial topic saying that UN symbolizes peace...
rydekk 250 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) That and what did the UN do in chernarus? Makes no sense. I liked the original bandit/hero clothing you get for doing good/bad deeds. Edited January 24, 2014 by rydekk
BattleSarge 8 Posted January 24, 2014 Also it's quite the controversial topic saying that UN symbolizes peace... Politics aside, it is MEANT to symbolize peace. I like the idea, but what would stop bandits to put on the same clothes and shoot you once you think he's friendly? It is better than what "friendly" infrastructure we already have (next to none)

Timecharge 28 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Problem with wearing a Military Beret and not a Ballistic Helmet is that is exactly how you get shot in the head and die. edit: I think shouting into your mike "FRIENDLY! I'M FRIENDLY" is just as symbolic of you being friendly as wearing a Military Beret (that anyone can wear) and a Press Vest (also anyone can wear), if someone is going to shoot you they are going to shoot you, if you run into someone who obviously has you beat in a head on fight you can put your hands up with F2 and sprint away if they seem to be a bandit. Monkfish (DayZ) 339 Posted January 24, 2014 I identify people by their actions, not the clothes they're wearing (although someone in a gasmask and full milgear will tend to be a bandity dicksniffer). If I end up shot then I've either made a poor judgement, was too slow to react to something or simply didn't see them. A blue beret ain't going to change shit apart from perhaps making the wearer even more of a bullet magnet than normal. Do not want.
Geckofrog7 1168 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) (although someone in a gasmask and full milgear will tend to be a bandity dicksniffer).But...but...but... :( Edited January 24, 2014 by Geckofrog7
cptgriffiths@hotmail.com 21 Posted January 24, 2014 No matter what you wear there's always going to be some one who shoots you on sight. I personally try to be friendly with everyone and wish more people were friendly. Wouldn't it be something to have a uniform that's universally recognised as friendly or even neutral like medic uniform, symbolising that they just want to help. But no matter what bandits will take advantage.
Monkfish (DayZ) 339 Posted January 24, 2014 But...but...but... :(Heh. People shouldn't stereotype, but they exist for a reason and every encounter I have had with someone wearing a gas mask and milgear has resulted in my death. Therefore, gasmask + milgear = bandity cocksniffer. GIven the resource and opportunity, they will be shot on sight.
QbitzR 157 Posted January 24, 2014 I would like the option to wear the bandana like thisPreventing friendly fire between bandits. lol.
Awruk 216 Posted January 25, 2014 Unless you make the UN uniform in bright pink I can't see why bandits wouldn't wear it.
Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted January 25, 2014 Why would a bandit wear a (bright blue) UN beret? You stand out and lack head protection. Any head protection. With that said, any friendly / hero person could in theory use those things to symbolize peace, being friendly, whatever. I personally like the implementation of berets. Would like a balaclava to go with them though. Just personal flavor. Btw: Full military gear doesn't necessarily mean bandit. All it implies is that the user spent time to get that stuff and that he might be too attached to it. Or he could be out trying to kill people. Or actually try to help people with good gear. Not everyone is a bandit. Even on the coast, even if some people can't imagine that. I roll around with a big group and allies that do coastal relief (actual relief, not helping people die, that's the "Medical Division" I think :P) ops and more. Best way to get some sort of peaceful or at least not outright hostile encounter is to start communicating from more or less safe spots. If the other person does not respond (after given enough time to, depending on the circumstances) you can assume hostile. To get back on topic, it could be hard to determine though. Your friendly guy could be running around in a full bandit outfit and payday mask while the 'asshole bandit' could wear anything that might make him look friendly. I do think that certain outfits should symbolize something though. Payday masks usually mean bandit (not always), so this could usually mean friendly. I'll actually consider using the UN beret or similar. Actually "RPing" as soldier anyway, might as well wear the right stuff.

I do not want political talk about the UNI think if the community wants it to signify something then it will gradually be accepted and become something in the field that says you're friendly. Like you could say the opposite is true for the gas mask or the gas mask/helmet/ttkso pants and jacket combo just says bandit now (when truthfully it doesn't have to). The press jacket looks great for that purpose, but on the downside, i hear it has less pockets and that still drives the decision on whether to pick it up or not for many, bandits or friendlies. I find that lowering your weapon, holstering or shouldering it after first contact proves friendly, waving when in visible range are still the best ways to identify and be identified. This game will never have a clear distinction, because that's exactly is one of the things this game is about, how grey the separation is, how fast it changes. komadose 190 Posted January 25, 2014 I think if the community wants it to signify something then it will gradually be accepted and become something in the field that says you're friendly.propably just a bandit in disguise. better to just shoot him.
gingatsu 68 Posted January 25, 2014 Well the idea is good meant and with good intention. I will keep that in mind and when I try to contact people in the future I will try to put on the Blue Beret to signalize that I am in deed a friendly person (or I might use a red beret, I like the red much more in fact or the turquoise one? damn I'm confused now) at least this will show that me and my friend are good intended coz a head shot is always easier without helm (although a shot into the face is the same as head shot so the gear didn't actually protect at all....) But don't forget the fact that the people (those dwarf cock sucking bandits) with ill intentions would abuse this matter to get easy kills... Why do people have to be such arses? dunno... FatboyTim 27 Posted January 25, 2014 They should add a blue press ballistic helmet, too.
somethingbloody 118 Posted January 25, 2014 Eugh. So sick of people associating the gas mask and helmet with banditry. When disease and infection is implemented, the mask will be a practical choice. The helmet is good for avoiding blood loss from zombie hits and protects you from shots. It is good survival gear. But oh no, it looks so scary. Better shoot that guy on sight and then I feel like a hero.

I think no one in the real world would try to kill people just for the fun or for their backpack when they would realize that those few people actually are the only sanctuary they have in all that chaos.. and they would try to cooperate, and to survive this shit together... the problem in this game is just that it doesn't have any way to prevent people from killing out of nonsense. The disease or the rest of the world does not oppose the real threat right now... and in future people will not try to see it that way too... they will just try to kill others mindlessly for their can of food or whatever... coz they have a sick mindset that this game is about PVP which actually isn't at all...
