gibonez 3633 Posted January 24, 2014 Pretty easy suggestion I know I am not the only one who gets annoyed by grass when setting up a shooting position while prone. I would love the ability to permanently or atleast flatten grass for a long long time so setting up shooting positions while prone is more viable. Would be nice to set up dynamic shooting positions while a clear view in front of you.
Bash Arkin 266 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) I think i may of misread that a few times, are you saying to remove the class via a option? or just to be able to flatten it with your character? Also wrong place to put this mate. Edited January 24, 2014 by Bash Arkin
hatesauce 99 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Grass is an integral part of the game and very important for sniping from cover. If you remove grass or "flatten it in your view shot" you open yourself up to being spotted. Very bad idea. This won't happen. Proper Gander 45 Posted January 24, 2014 Doesn't the grass flatten a little when you go prone? Maybe you can roll around and check it out.
gibonez 3633 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Doesn't the grass flatten a little when you go prone? Maybe you can roll around and check it out. Thats pretty much what I am suggesting. The ability to flatten the tall grass just like you would if you roll over it but for a longer "permanent" time period. Would be useful for setting up a sniper position deeper into a forrest for example by flattening the grass in a straight line back and then having a good window of flattened grass to shoot from. This however of course make you more visible since the grass would no longer hide you. Not sure how the word exploit even got brought up. DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted January 24, 2014 Look if you want to sit on top of a hill and snipe newbies all day, whatever, but flatten your own fucking grass and stop being so lazy.
Loafy 46 Posted January 24, 2014 I think its funny when people hide in grass. On someone elses screen if they have the graphics turned down you are not hidden at all and probably stick out more than ever. AND on top of that grass only renders at a certain distance so using grass as cover for a sniper has proven useless since Arma2

So it already did happen. All the OP is saying is that grass should lay flat for longer. I can get behind this. Personally I'd like grass to stay flat until server restart. You can track people that way too, which is something I've actually done in the mod.
Flagella 69 Posted January 24, 2014 Not a bad suggestion but then again suggestions belong in the suggestion thread...
gibonez 3633 Posted January 24, 2014 Press Z And walk around the grass abit, Fixed This is exactly what I suggested but a contextual option to flatten the grass for a longer period. Could be something as simple as pressing f5 and then an animation plays with the player yanking out grass or smashing the ground near the front of him down. What this would in turn do is just flatten the grass in front of the player for a longer duration for example instead of 30 seconds or so that it does in game now it would flatten it for 1 hour of in game time. It could add to the immersion too. say you get shot at by a sniper then decide to hunt him, all you find is a small area of flattened grass and 1 or 2 pieces of his brass lying there. You now know where he fired at you from.

gibonez 3633 Posted January 24, 2014 Night is to dark, bullets shouldnt kill instantly and now, flatten grass...I mean djez, whats next?? I sure as hell hope Dean Hall and the developers dont read this forum alot...ppl just wanna turn this game into a game for children...like 90% of games already are. I believe your reading comprehension might be sub par. There is nothing that I suggested that would make the game easier. It is entirely based on things you can and would do in reality and it would add much needed depth to the game. I agree with Gibonez I would like to see grass staying flattened for 15-30 minutes after some one crawls through it, This way a player can still be tracked by the path they made within a reasonable (to me) time frame. It would be nice (if possible) to increase the time grass stayed down depending on the amount of time it was being pressed flat/number of times the trail was taken. You sit in one spot for a few minutes that patch is going to take longer to stand back up compared to the trail you made there and out. -edit-Added in red. JuX 72 Posted January 24, 2014 The grass is indeed a problem, often it blocks the sniper scopes vision and remains flatten only short period of timeand if you move to flatten it constantly you keep giving your position away with unnecessary movement. The grass wont give you any cover by the way if you are sniping long range, since at long distances it wont render.
