Metalunatic 25 Posted January 24, 2014 I've come to realize you really can't trust anyone other than yourself and maybe a personal friend or family member playing with you. Better late than never I guess.
komadose 190 Posted January 24, 2014 I'm already a cynisist when it comes to society; this game is just setting the bar lower.i once dropped a full canteen to a couple of bambies at the shore. first they tried to hide cos i had M4. wise decision, all things considered. they were so happy after that ^^ sometimes i just KoS people when i'm bored. it's only a game. i would never hurt another person in real life. hells high 676 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Becoming part of the problem is always the solution, right? :P I won't team up with geared strangers for that reason. I usually hang out around newbie areas with weapons away, handing out food or teaming up with newbie as a kind of guide or escort. Only geared people I hang out with are my friends. ^^ Edited January 24, 2014 by Hells High

Proper Gander 45 Posted January 24, 2014 Last night on a random hardcore server I connected to there was literally a genocide of new players at the coast beating each other to death with their fists. I've never seen that before. Sounds interesting. You should have recorded it!
TwstedFate 4 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) As I used to say while I was in the Army.....when in doubt...whip it out. Of course this saying was referred to when seeing someone you werent sure was an officer or not. Better safe than sorry. SOS, KOS, BOT. need matches 84 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) So sorry being a bandit isn't fun for you anymore. I'm sure kos will be SOOOOO much more fun. I play friendly and have only been killed once...and it was my fault...I forgot I had an axe armed and walked toward a player to leave a building...I would have shot me too. You know you can run from people with guns right? I have fun being sneaky and trying not to be seen. If I see someone that looks menacing, I avoid them. Shooting someone just because they have a gun? You fail. Edited January 24, 2014 by need matches
DeepEuphoria 69 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Yep I'm the same, I've been determined to play with a "Everyone deserves a chances" mentality since the release day. But seriously what's the point!!! DayZ has become so popular now, which is great but also really bad. Because all the little derps, trolls and kids have jumped on the bandwagon now. Example, earlier today..... My character glitched out by dropping through the floor of a building, after what seemed like an hour of me and my buddies trying everything to get me out, I called enough, and they put me out my misery. So, I spawned on the coast about 1km away from Electro, awesome I thought. But within 2 mins of spawning out in the middle of nowhere with "Nothing" to my name not even my flashlight, a fully kitted guy in Military gear appears from behind a building. I stopped, put my hands up and said: "Hey buddy, it's call I'm a fresh spawn. No weapon, no food, no nothing". He used VoIP and replied: "Where are going?". I replied: "Not sure lol. Just look for some food I guess." BANG! He killed me  No idea. Ok, so I respawn again, after a few mins I make it to the lumber mill, again no backpack, no weapon, no "Nothing!" I hear footsteps behind me...... a guy with an axe! I call "Friendly", "I don't have anything I just spawned 60 seconds ago!" But of course he tries hitting me with the Axe. I try to evade him while calling out "Dude! I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING AT ALL!" Finally he speaks..... He couldn't have been more than 10 years old! Giggling away to himself and calling out "Stand still little bitch". Finally he landed a blow and that's all she wrote. Right, different server this time...... Well I'm not gonna rank on any longer because you know what's coming. 2 mins from spawning, nothing on me what so ever. 2 maybe 3 guys, looked fairly kitted up, camping the coast hiding in the tree line....... "You are Dead." > :( No more, enough is enough. If all these little nuck-fuggets are gonna try ruining this game by turning it into Call of DayZ where the aim is "Not" to have fun or play any aspect of the game, but just to ruin everyone else's fun and generally upset and troll everyone, well I'm not gonna make it easy for them. If they're a complete fresh spawn, no backpack no nothing I will leave them alone but I will watch them like a hawk! Other than that....... "It moves, it's dies! Grimey Rick 3417 Posted January 24, 2014 So sorry being a bandit isn't fun for you anymore. You fail. Being a bandit that doesn't kill people is the most fun you can have in the game. It's a rush. You never know what's going to happen. How is that even so bad? Someone comes up to you, holds you up, takes what they need from you (which usually isn't a lot since pretty much everyone travels with almost as much as they can carry) and lets you go. Being a civil bandit is awesome. What's not awesome? Someone sitting on top of the gas bell in Kamyshovo picking off new players with a rifle. I don't see the logic in that. It's neither immersive nor fun. But whatever. Everyone is different. P.S: If you've only been killed once, I'm willing to bet you're playing on servers with barely any players in them. Step up from a 3/40 and play a 40/40 for a while. The odds of you not running into ANYONE that wants to kill you means you've either played much less than me, or you're the luckiest player in Chernarus.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted January 24, 2014 Stop joining already established groups. I only pair with loners (if indeed I do decide to team up with anyone) for that very reason. Anyone in a group undoubtedly is talking to the other guys via Skype or Mumble or whatever, so it's easier for them to betray an outsider - whereas in a duo the playing field is more level.
Highlander007 249 Posted January 24, 2014 I would rather be killed by 10 Idiots than risk killing one nice guy. I have met many nice people by risking to trust them and I don't really want to murder anyone nice. I have traded and helped and been helped many more times than I have been murdered. I don't care if an idiot kills me, it's not real and all of my best experiences of the game so far have been related to trusting people who didn't betray me. Don't get me wrong, I know you have to be careful and that there are a lot of griefers and noobs running around but don't give up on your humanity. His character is not a human. It's a piece of software code. Everyone should KOS strangers in this alpha state of the game
Window Licker 504 Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Settle in folks, it's story time, As a fresh bright eyed spawn I ran to the construction site to the south of Benezino, nothing, I came down and there was a guy with an M4 he say hey come with me I know where there's a Mosin in the construction site, I followed him all bright eyed and trusting. Now there where certain things he was saying that kept setting off alarm bell's in my head phrases if you will. They sounded familiar like I'd heard them somewhere before, It may surprise some of you but I didn't get shot in this encounter, no I got axed in the back. I respawned, on the coast with pretty much the same stuff I had when I died, but then it hit me. I'd heard those phrases before watching North Wood's Law when the officer caught a bunch of teens smoking pot and they thought they could lie/deny their way out of if. Be wary of anyone who feels the need to convince you they are telling the truth aka shoot/stab/axe them or ditch them asap. Shouting friendly is pretty much a good way of saying I'm unarmed/poorly armed so kill me if you want, I've found Hello work's much better. Also not straight away but early in the interaction give them your name like "oh yeah I'm Jason (Bates)." they will feel obligated to tell you theirs thus forming a small connection and a bit more trust. Finally, when I meet people I talk a little, tell them my plan where I'm going, that town is looted out, water over there, that kind of helpful information. If you have a plan people will follow and they are much more reluctant to kill the person who knows where they are going. Even if you don't group I've found they are more inclined to leave me be. Grimey Rick 3417 Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) Okay, I kind of feel bad. I was just passing through Balota on my way to NWAF, and while inside one of the prisons a guy spawned right in front of me upstairs in the room with the beds. I didn't even get a chance to think before I blew his head off with my magnum. I checked him over and he was loaded to the gills with ammo, pristine M4 and attachments, and safe boxes. I left them all on the guy because I felt bad and thought maybe he'd make it back before someone else looted his shit, so I cautiously made my way out of the jail and made my way towards the hangars. As I entered the first hangar I was met with a motorcycle helmet clad asshole who opened fire on me with an FNX. I took a shot or two and fell back as my heart attempted to beat its way out of my damn chest. I sprinted back to the jail to the far end where the little alcove is, ducked in, bandaged myself and popped some painkillers. I popped my head around the wall just in time to see bandit Bob making his way out of the hangar to the other side of the jail in what I assumed was an attempt to flank 'n' gank me. I grinned inside all the while my adrenaline went off the charts. (Seriously, I've never gotten such a rush in a video game before I played DayZ:SA and I've competed in CS/CS:S and SC2 tournaments in my area.) As he came around the far corner I popped around my corner and put two .357 rounds in his chest. He didn't have much of anything on him - I think/assume he was the tag along of the guy who spawned on me in the jail. Anyway, as I'm finishing looting him on the back side of the jail near the fence, I hear gun shots towards the military camp across the way. I hauled out my ol' Nagant and peeked the corner only to witness blood spurting out of a guy by the barracks (seriously, so much blood, haha. It looked awesome!) and another guy running over to his corpse. I drop to prone, slap my bipod down and wait to see what he's going to do. Guess what? He starts heading my way. Then something happened. Rick Grimes from S3 in which no fucks were given rushed through me. I suddenly got mad. I went totally batshit insane, post-Lori style. I wasn't gonna give this little fuckstick the chance to screw me like I've been letting people screw me for the past while. I started seeing shit. I thought about that dreaded black screen, that tiny little white text silently screaming at me, "You are dead." And then I put the fucker down. blissfulkunt 196 Posted January 25, 2014 100% agree with OP. I bought this game 2 weeks ago, havn't been able to keep my character for longer then a day, Its getting old fast. Gear up, run to a town to help a few newbies and BAM dead. Everytime... And dont say play on low population servers (how is that fun?) or that Im not a good survivalist (I want to iinteract with people its a HUGE part of this game). From now my interactions will be death on sight if you even so much as look at me

hombrecz 832 Posted January 25, 2014 I don't consider myself KOS player, but sometimes I just feel the urge inside me.Just like 2 days ago, I was on hill overlooking that beached ship north of Berezino. There was a guy at the deck, he had some basic gear and Mosin. I could not resist and I had to snipe him with my scoped mosin.I missed some shots when he was on the deck, he went inside the ship but was very careless and continued looting. He exposed himself in window and I wasted him. Anyway I never trick people by sweet talking them and then killing them. That, in my book, is very low. Also I often help fresh spawn by giving him some extra cans or water bottles, so I guess I'm not that bad.
TheWizard14 372 Posted January 25, 2014 This is the problem with DayZ at the moment. Dick heads and douche bag kill on sight idiots are always killing everyone or leading them into traps. That isn't encouraging at all to new players or friendlies. It just makes them more mad, that they will turn into the same dick head douche bags that the ones before them were. And then the cycle continues... BUT SCREW THAT. My number 1 rule is: 1. If it moves, shoot it. Then, 2. If it doesn't die, shoot it some more. 3. Only have mercy on those who claim friendly first, if I hadn't killed them already, and leave the area.
